your pile has grown again, in fact it needs emptying soon. |

How did you feel about Maria Bello playing Evie instead of Rachel Weisz? |
The Great Yokai War (Miike)
fun goofy film... with some suprising western touches. |
Quote:
Finally watched Sleepaway Camp. Pretty good, though having known about the ending kinda ruined it a bit I think. |
Quote:
i watched it with my kid. i went in thinking i wouldnt like it at all (i dont like asian kids films as a rule) but i ended up enjoying it mostly because of the different creatures (wondering how many were based on actual japanese folktales) and i thought the crazy old grandfather was kind of funny. |

This role needed a bit more of the womanish, motherly side of Evie and I thought Maria Bello did a good job with maintaining the balance of being a mother of a full grown Alex plus the wife of Rick. Don't think Rachel would have pulled this role off like the previous 2. I really wish they stop with this one though. Seems like they are running out of ideas (well, this is a very campy franchise in the first place anyway), and its better to stop while being slightly ahead than going downhill to the point of absurdity. |
Romeo + Juliet (1996)
This was a very interesting take on Shakespeare's play...some aspects worked, others did not. Once I got over the initial "what-the-fuck" of Luhrmann's updates, I quite enjoyed it. |
In the past week.
The Watchmen - Thought it was amazing. That night went and read the graphic novel and they definitely kept it true unlike Wanted. Even if you're not a comic book fan, which I am certianly not, I'd recommend this. Eastern Promises - Not as good as I expected but not bad by any means. Harold And Kumar: Escape From Guantanamo Bay - Meh. First one was alot funnier. Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas - Trippy shit. Depp delivered like he always does. Mirrors - Shit. I wish Hollywood would stop with the awful Japenese horror remakes. |
Quote:
You thought the original was much better? Personally i think Mirrors is one of very few decent asian remakes. |
I'm not a fan of Japanese horror at all, quite frankly.

Terror Train

District B13
that was awful. a couple good action scenes, but otherwise awful. this director has certainly made an improvement with Taken. |
Babysitter Wanted (2008)
http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/664...terwanted2.jpg I don't know what to say...it was a peculiar plot! Started almost like When a Stranger Calls but an unpredictable twist at midway turns the movie into entirely a different direction...the movie veers into a supernatural angle and then comes torture & cannibalism parts with high content of gore & flesh and finally ends like a survival horror flick that also left room for sequels too. [:D ] Overall, I'd say it was a nice fun ride indeed. Keep an open mind before going to watch it...you'd either like it a lot or may throw the dvd out of your collection.;) >>: B- Changeling (2008) Very touching & beautiful. >>: A |

Capote
2nd time Ive seen this and, like the first, I hesitated putting it on as I had the thought 'couldnt be arsed watching this shit'. Just like the first time I was glued to the tv, quality film. It feels like an unappealling film to watch to me but well worth a viewing to those who haven't. |
Beetle Juice.

If you liked that film, try INFAMOUS same story (essentaily) but told better and with better performances. Toby Jones plays Capote perfectly and Daniel Craig is Perry Smith. |

Nice one, will certainly check that one out. Theres a film critic I regularly listen to on BBC radio 5, Mark Kermode, who said the same thing about Infamous being better than Capote but id forgotten until you mentioned it. X-men 3: The Last Stand Certainly the weakest of the series but still an enjoyable film. My pro Wolverine bias may be altering my judgement though. Rambo: First Blood Part II Does exactly what it says on the tin |
Days of Darkness.
The screwy little zombie film is everything I usually hate in modern horror movies- cheesy, silly, plotless, poor acting, awful script- yet this time something clicked for me and I enjoyed it. It made it to the point of so bad it's good. Some crazy xconcepts that make it rise above the usual drek. It's currently on Fearnet- check it out if you have a free evening. |
Kemper
It was more of a cat and mouse detective movie than a serial killer flick. Don't force yourself to watch it. 4/10 |
Bringing out the Dead
|
Bay of Blood
Highly recommended, although occasionally slow and hokey. |
Watchmen
Excelent |
Hellraiser
(Zone Horror channel showing Hellraiser triple bill, Im hoping to fight off fatigue to get them all in) |
Last horror film
I think the last film I saw was Van Helsing-I liked it. I was wondering; does anyone know about an old horror flik that was a monster chasing I think a nurse; he caught her; killed her; took her face & identity; went to the victim's house(man who saw that scarry face the night before); he somehow recognized the creature through her I dont't know.

Fortunately it comes as standard with my Sky package. You're right about the quality of the films shown though, for the most part they are a waste of time. Every now and again they do have some decent stuff on, just have to keep checking and hoping. Hellbound: Hellraiser II Ive always liked this sequel, but need more of the Cenobites! |
The Wrestler
I was totally captivated from start to finish. Bleak stuff that left me feeling quite fucked up. I could relate to "The Ram" and see myself washed up in a similar situation and it really hit home. Hopefully there will be more vehicles like this for Rourke. Quite possibly the best thing a major studio has released in well over 10 years. I think I'll watch this again over the weekend. |

Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In) (2008)
This is not a horror movie. It is not a vampire movie. At least, neither of those are the defining words I'd use to describe the essence of the film. It's about the mess of adolescence. It's an against-the-odds love story. It's about surviving in this world, doing what must be done. All classic, timeless templates, only in this instance told against a unique backdrop. See, then maybe it's a vampire film, or a horror film. It is slow, sad, dark, and cold, punctuated by both harshness and happiness, the dynamics of a haunting melody. It is blurry and distant, until Eli and Oskar, the two main characters, come together. Their interactions are close and intimate. The performances of the two main kids are remarkable, fully consumed by not only their roles, but by the world created in the film. Especially Lina Leandersson, who plays Eli (the vampire), truly looks far older than her years. The Dalai Lama once talked about every person being the center of his or her respective universe, and we get that in Oskar and Eli's world. From their prospective, together they create one universe, trying to omit the extraneous, not caring to question each other beyond traditional childish things. And that's really what it comes down to with this film. Any complaints I may have had were rendered negligible by the end. I mean that in two ways: by the end of the film, I no longer cared about those parts; and by the way the film ended, I no longer cared about those parts. (Possible SPOILER) The finale is truly the most virtuosic part about the film, we finally get to see Oskar and Eli trim all the excess from their universe. All in all, it's a truly wonderful film; one of the very best of 2008. |
The Baby's Room.....[neverending take note]. Its on the Fearnet channel ands its pretty damn good. Its part of a series like Eight Films to Die For, only in Spanish. Reading is required.

Secretary.
A near-perfect blend of raw, unflinching S&M moments with soft, emotional sensitivity, which underline the lives of the two principal protagonists. Maggie Gyllenhaal & James Spader deliver top-notch performances, and the black humor of the flick takes centrestage, with a very strong script and excellent direction. Recommended. * * * * |
Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth
Considering how good the first two are this is a big disappointment. The downward spiral starts here. |
The Gift.
Some pretty solid performances, notably from Blanchett & Ribisi, make this mystery thriller from Raimi a pretty enjoyable watch. * * * |
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Wife wanted to see it. * * * ½ |
