DSL was down for two days, so I had a Halloween marathon.

The original,
II,
III: Season of the Witch,
4: Return,
5: Revenge,
6: Curse (Producer's Cut),
H20,
Resurrection,
&
RZ's remake.

...in that order.

"Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream,
Make him the cutest that I've ever seen,
Give him two lips like roses and clover,
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over.
Sandman, I'm so alone,
Don't have nobody to call my own,
Please turn on your magic beam,
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream."

Gotta love songs that get stuck in your head.

urgeok2 03-04-2009 07:34 AM

my kid is in tae kwon do mon-tue-wed-thur nights now so we cant really fit a movie in.

instead we've been working through season 1 of the Dick Van Dyke Show.

old fashioned values abound - but it's still a funny show

Mary Tyler Moore was really hot in that show.

an old Discovision disc - the 1st ones ever made.

most of them dont play - but i'll give it a try - we might get lucky

(hopefully i'm not mixing this up with another movie made from a book by the same author

cheebacheeba 03-04-2009 01:47 PM

The chocolate war - videotape, ha.
I remember seeing it once ages ago...pretty entertaining.

The Dark Half - didn't know romero did this one. Not a bad version of the king book...not quite as in depth, but a decent watch all the same.

hellfire1 03-04-2009 01:49 PM

Hah! Nice avatar cheebs. Love it.

fine direction from Keith Gordon - actor (christine) turned director

Crank

It was a pretty cool fast paced action movie. Not sure how they are going to explain how he is alive in the new one though..

8/10

I'm thinking the same way they explained all the ridiculousness in the first one: as in "Logic? Who fucking cares, lets blow shit up and kick some ass!"

I'm pretty sure your right. But seriously he would have crushed every bone in his body at the end... but I'm sure he blinked before the credits rolled.. fuck it, as long as the sequel is as much fun who cares..

he's wired up with electricity, like Frankenstien's monster meet Shocker

Eden Lake

A mean-spirited, but well crafted little thriller. There's nothing earth-shattering about it, but it is well directed and well acted (which instantly sets it above most films, let alone horror films) and the characters are truly frightening. It isn't a fun film, but I'm looking forward to seeing what the director will do next.

The Reflecting Skin

Truly bizarre psychological thriller. Escape from reality gone hardcore. Wonderful flick, IMO. But not everyone's cup of tea. * * * *

Not Quite Hollywood

Great documentry on Aussie genre cinema. Everyone should check this one out because its a great watch.

Angra 03-05-2009 01:54 AM

"Rest stop" 6/10

Everything she did and did not do annoyed the hell outa me.

Can't say it was a boring movie, tho.

Staal 03-05-2009 01:58 AM

The Girl Next Door

Decent little flick. I missed some exploitation, but hey.

The Watchmen

I had no grounding at all for the film, never read the comic or really had little clue what it was even about. It certainly was a heavier film then I expected, and while it's not much praise I do think I can say it's Snyder's best work thus far. His over direction worked surprisingly well in most of the action scenes as well as deliverying very stong scenes concertrating on fewer characters at a time.

The acting is all very solid with som characters very capably breaking the cliche molds that tend to surrond "Super" films.

I am pretty sure I liked it, but it was so very far from what I was expecting its hard to be really firm about it.

A Mexican Werewolf in Texas

Not awful, but not good.

scouse mac 03-05-2009 06:20 AM

The Midnight Meat Train

Good flick, slightly dodgy cgi blood but the overall look and pace of the film were top notch.
I remember reading the short story a few years ago and Im pleased the film has turned out well.

it's the polar opposite to a superhero film.

i havent seen it yet but from what i've heard it follows the comic closely.
from what i've seen - entire scenes are lifted directly from the pages and put onto film.

probably the most depressing work of fiction i've ever read so i can only imagine the film as being fascinating - not enjoyable

"Bedtime stories" 5/10

Too much a kiddie movie for my taste and my least favorite Sandler movie, together with Spanglish.

Despare 03-05-2009 12:24 PM

Find Me Guilty

Surprising really, I liked this one, who would have thought Vin Diesel could (kind of) act.

Trailer Park of Terror

Pretty disappointing, now Im especially pleased I got it cheap from the supermarket.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

I have the chance to audition for a stage version of this in the near future, so I figured it was about time to give it another watch.

Always been a favourite of mine...one of the all-time classics, no questions asked. A damn near perfect film in every way.

Slow paced but fairly made and nice little twist at the end...that's all.

Really? What role? I'd love to see it performed on stage. Have you read Ken Kesey's book? Its a great read, the story unfolds thru the Big Chief's eyes.

Disease 03-06-2009 02:35 AM

Phantasm 3

I noticed their is no real praise for this movie in the GPA thread, but I thought it was not that bad at all. Some pretty poor acting, but good over the top fun.

Don Coscarelli is a fucking genius, underated as fuck. His work pisses all over a lot of the so called masters. One of the champions of independent cinema. I really want to shake the dudes hand one day and get my Beastmaster tape autographed.

scouse mac 03-06-2009 03:47 AM

Wristcutters: A Love Story

A good, understated little film with some solid performances and gentle humour. Purgatory doesn't seem all that bad.
