This was such a joy to watch...well, no it wasn't and that's kind of the point. So refreshing to see a horror film that takes its time to build a very deep, piercing visceral sense of dread rather than rely on cheap bang scare tactics or gross-out scenes (not that they don't have their place in some horror).

Much like The Shining or Lord of the Flies, this is a magnificent study of the darkness that emerges when humans are set in an isolated environment. It's about the hypocrisy involved in a dogmatic lifestyle, and the toxic combination of shame and pride. The attention to detail and authenticity in representing the time period was phenomenal and really contributed to the atmosphere - particularly the lighting.

The score and the cuts between scenes were sublimely discordant and unsettling. There are very few scary "moments" in this film and it is VERY purposefully paced, but I was absolutely on edge throughout.

Another brilliant example of the horror of humans in close quarters. I thought the central cast did a very good job. M E-W was her usual self, the guy who played Emmet did a brilliant job of making him likeable and Goodman..well, Goodman was Goodman. Who would want to find themselves in a bunker with Goodman?

I'm enjoying the direction that the series is going - the stories of ordinary people on the periphery of monster chaos. The film is mostly very captivating throughout, and the BEGINNING of the third act had me on the edge of my seat. Then...well, it lets itself down. Doesn't know when to end.

The use of the confined space was very good, and you very quickly come to find the bunker as both a place of safe comfort, but also one of frightening closeness - all thanks to the ever present threat of Goodman. I was worried the trailer had given away too much about what I THOUGHT would be the ending, but I was very thankfully mistaken.

The beginning and the time spent in the underground bunker were excellent, then it hit a certain spot and the film lost it. ::sad::

Wasn't boring or really bad but the story was weak.
Couple of things didn't seem to make sense to me. Or else I missed some details.

I recently watched The Possession myself. Not a bad film.
