Ah, I can't wait to see that. I've heard great things about it. I missed it when it came through here last year, unfortunately.

Ménilmontant (1926)

One of my favorite short films of all time. It's a maddening, disturbing, kinetic avant-garde masterpiece. It's available to watch on YouTube, if anyone's interested:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Backwoods (2008) - 5/10

Watched this on Fearnet on demand because Gary Oldman was in it. His presences alone brought the movie up to a 5, but now that I have really thought about it overnight, the movie was complete shit. It starts off good enough....

The story is basically that a guy inherits his grandma's old house in a remote area of Spain in 1978. They meet the town locals in a bar before heading up to their house in the typical fashion. The next day the two men are hunting when they find an abandon house with a locked door where they find a little mutant girl (not all that mutated, just has ninja turtle hands and buck teeth), so they try to save her by bringing her back to their place to get her some food and a bath.

Obviously, the people who kept her there (see: town locals) are pissed when they find she is gone and they go to that house to try to find her....

From that point on it's just a clusterfuck of "tense" scenes, woods chasing, a confusing ending, and from what I can tell...no resolution to the story whatsoever.
I swear through half of the movie I thought the little girl was going to be a werewolf or something, because she is very feral, was getting worked up at the full moon, and the dog went missing.

It just pissed me off, because the acting seemed good enough...Oldman was typical Oldman, but the story and directing were completely worthless.

Would have gotten a 2/10 without Oldman.

Inglorious Bastard

It's a good face paced war movie, a little ecentric which makes it stand out from others.

10 character rule still here then

Midnight Meat Train

It was everything they said it would be. Not too sure about some of the CG, but a solid blood bath through and through.

8/10

Dante'sInferno 02-17-2009 04:10 PM

The Incredible Hulk, with my Dad. The Protecter, which was fuckin' awesome.

Still ripping thru Dexter S2 should finish it tonight.

Ah, I completely disagree with you on this. I enjoyed it very much. I thought it was very well directed. You seem to be grading this down because you thought it was going to be something and then it was different from your expectations. She wasn't "getting worked up" over the full moon- she was frightened of it because she'd never seen it before.

And if you'd payed attention you'd know exactly what was going to happen at the police station after the film ends.

I was quite impressed with the leader of the family from the village as well. I went into this film knowing nothing and was pleasantly surprised.

The Beast of War (1988)

Pretty good movie, it's about a Russian tank being chased through a valley in Afganastan, after the tank kills some certain people in un-godly fassion, some family memebers and others from the village hunt it down. Worth checking out.

7/10

Night of the Living dead (1990)

I like the fact that Barbarra is a bad ass in this one.

Friday the 13th (09) - It was a slasher flick. Drinking, smoking, fucking, and dieing... nothing we haven't seen before but something that just doesn't get old. This does mark one of the few times I've been to the theater and wanted to see EVERY movie previewed...

MANIAC

Some great Savini effects work in this one. The setup for the shotgun effect was very well done.

Quality film, thought it was a great performance by Joe Spinell.

I confess to pausing the dvd to have a proper butchers at that scene you're on about

haha....I did the same thing. I do that a lot on these older movies that use practical effects......see where they put the dummy head or whatever in.

"Psycho II"

While not as great as the classic original. I have to admit I have a fondness for this film, It's well made, respectful of the original and has some good suspense.

_____V_____ 02-18-2009 08:05 PM

American Beauty, followed by Scent of a Woman.

The latter is easily one of my all-time favs, with Pacino in the form of his lifetime. From the opening music to the climactic sequence...exquisite.

And Gabrielle Anwar...boy is she a dish!

its good. a few scenes were a little uncomfortable for me, i thought it would focus much more on the political aspect's of his life rather than the relationship ones, it was about 50/50 in that regard.
Brolin steals every scene btw.

The Pink Panther 2 (2009)

Though Ash (ARB) looks good but not so hot (as she used to be in Indian films like Chokher Bali, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam or Devdas) but it was nice to see her working with such a great star casts as Andy Garcia, Jeremy Irons, Alfred Molina and Jean Reno.

7.5/10

Attack of the Crab monsters

I'm pretty sure there was only one crab monster though, and he really needed a sense of humour.

Friday the 13th (Remake)- 7/10

Friday the 13th Part 2- 7/10 (This is now tied with the remake as my favorite. I think it would've been much better with the hockey mask.

Hard Boiled (1992) - 9/10.

So intense, great action flick.

Friday the 13th Part 4- 7/10

I'm gonna say that this is my favorite one so far, just a step above 2 and the remake. Although it did have the lamest ending ever, it still had pissed off, ultra brutal Jason, and the kill by throwing thick chick from the high window was totally bad ass.

That's my favorite of the series. They really should've stopped it there... even tho I enjoy all of them really. Part 8 is the worst IMO

Eden Lake.

I loved it. Brutal, unflinching and pretty hard-hitting. Good to see independent low-budget filmmakers come up with fresh ideas and execute them well also.

Pretty damn good flick. Recommended to all who havent seen it yet - especially Return, Fortunato, Elvis, Urge, Newb, Alky, etc.

Glad to know that you liked it too.

I think this is the best survival horror films that came out lately, far better than The Strangers & Funny Games remake. :)

I gave it to my brother & his wife for a watch and they almost hated the shocking finale and later on I noticed that my brother somehow developed a pretty bad taste on horror films, recently he saw The Happenings & The Midnight Movie (which is a bad one too) and he liked the movies very much.

Special movie shows for HDC TOP 100 ASIAN HORROR selection

As I'm a good fan of Asian Horror movies and _V_ extended the deadline for submitting the list for HDC Top 100 Asian Horror movies, so I'm thinking I should give it a try to watch as much Asian Horrors as I can before going to finalized my list. There are still some good Asian horrors that I haven't seen yet but I have came to read some pretty good online reviews of them already.

Noroi: The Curse (2005)

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...rse-poster.jpg

Ichise Takashige, producer of such fright classics as Ring, Dark Water, and Ju-on, presents a thrillingly Japanese mockumentary about a TV journalist Masafumi Kobayashi who had gone missing at present, leaving behind several video tapes of his unpublished work on his latest (and the last, apparently) paranormal research.

There's none of those stereotypical long-haired ghosts but the films successfully manages to hold an incredibly eerie atmosphere till the "pleasant" ending. Though the acting was bit mediocre and there are some things that weren't explained clearly but actually I haven't any complain for that cause everything else executed quite finely.

Recommended to Chrono, NE, V, Despare, Angra and everyone else who like to watch Asian Horrors sometimes.
