Just caught the last 1 1/2 hrs of Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Opera (1987) - 9/10.

My new favourite Argento film, and also one of my favourite horror flicks. Great soundtrack.

urgeok2 02-07-2009 05:21 PM

Outlander. Not a bad flick - some good creature effects ... hey - it's vikings VS aliens ... of course i'm gonna like it.

(would have been more effective had it not been made quite so soon after Beowulf.)

Coraline

Wow! What a blast!
Everyone go check this one out as soon as you can.
And if you can afford to read the book first (it's not that long), do it!

I can see this being on my favorites list for 2009.

Last night I saw Hostel for the first time. 7/10.

The animation was beautiful and the story really moved along at the perfect pace. I felt like there could have been more answers given to the viewer but it wasn't enough to hurt the film at all. The 3D was pretty damn cool too.

cheebacheeba 02-07-2009 11:17 PM

Sex Drive.
Fairly funny.

Disease 02-08-2009 01:23 AM

Freezerburn

It was not very good, but it was o.k, the fact it had Tom Green and Crispin Glover in it, well that's the only reason I watched it.

I want to see Tom Green in a movie he wrote again, that would be funny.

4.5/10

Day of the Dead (85)

7.5/10

What an odd ending.

-Liam Neeson was perfectly cast for this. Damn good action movie.

Woah... ghost of drunken past!

Saw this last night as well. Pretty good prequel. Michael Sheen is a sexy best.

Solaris (clooney version)

words can't describe how much of a horrible injustice this remake is... I'm glad I decided to watch the original weeks ago instead of watching this.

George Clooney dying in a fire would almost make up for the amount of bad news I've had to deal with in the last few months.

I made this to cheer myself up, it worked to some extent. :)

Walk Hard

It is funny, I thought it might have been dissapointing, but it had some really good laughs in it. The Songs weren't great but the duet one would have been my faveorite..

Coraline

God, I fucking hate 3D. The glasses and the gimmick pull me out of the story. I just can't enjoy a movie with those stupid glasses that reduce your field of vision, distort the color and give me a fucking headache.

I really liked the book but felt this adaptation was a bit weak - the scary bits weren't scary enough, the funny bits weren't funny enough and the voice acting was completely uninspired. I love stop-motion animation and am a fan of both Selick and Gaiman, but this one didn't impress me. I'm looking forward to seeing it in 2D on my television at some point - maybe I'll come around on it.

I think it's worth watching just for the part with Elvis Presley.

The bit where he was introduced to weed cracked me up.

Lifeforce

Aliens,Vampires,Zombies, it had all three, pretty good even though it looked a bit cheap at times.

I didn't know this had been adapted for film. I wasn't OVERLY fond of the story, but I did feel that it would led itself best to a more vivid and varied medium then graphic novel. Film would gain a greater advantage to manipulate fields of vision and use music, sound and voice. Sad that it doesn't sound like it came together.

Go back a few pages a read some other comments on the film.

It was filmed here in Oregon and it's been selling out every show.

The Immortal Voyage Of Captain Drake

Cheesy silly Sci-Fi channel movie with Adrian Paul as Sir Francis Drake on a mission to find the mythical Tree Of Life

The Exorcist III

I hadn't seen this one. I hated #2, so I didn't bother following up on the series, but I saw it used for $2.99 and couldn't resist. I was pleasantly surprised. A fun, fucked-up movie with a real knockout performance by George C Scott an lots of goergetown footage that made me a bit homesick.

The Pink Panther 2

A mistake I can never rectify. The ensemble cast really disappoints, except eye candy Aishwarya Rai.

The Hurt Locker (2009)

http://www.spout.com/ProductImages/s389134.jpg

Guy Pearce & Ralph Fiennes appeared in minor & short roles in this catastrophic war movie where an elite Army bomb squad unit must come together in a city of Iraq where everyone is a potential enemy and every object could be a deadly bomb.

Red Sands (2009)

http://www.aceshowbiz.com/images/pos...l/00004422.jpg

Another war horror based on Islamic Myths after last year's The Objective (2008) and this time this slow paced story evolves around a Genie! Pretty mediocre.

I've been on an 80s teen romance flick trip this week since you can find a lot of them on youtube. I've watched:

Can't Buy Me Love - Patrick Dempsey looking super young and super dorky.
The Sure Thing - Love, LOVE John Cusack. Surprisingly funny movie.
Just One of the Guys - My god, the acting... oh the "acting"...

Ahh alas I simply cannot keep pace, apologies.

It's nice to see that it may well have lived up to it potential then. As said, I think it was a much better story for this sort of media. I am uncertain about some of the design choices though, I felt Coraline's surreal elements were stronger in their subtlety. In this version they seem to be a bit too forceful (based on trailer viewings).

I do love stop motion though, and I will be sure to give this a look when it reaches Australian shores.

Have seen it. Cute, but a bit too sappy for my tastes. I like my Cusack sarcastic with a hint of bitterness to him.

Bringing up baby (katherine hepburn & cary Grant)

fun movie - meanders all over the place but the acting is fun.
katherine hepburn was a complete flake in this (beautiful too)
funny to see her act like a nut when she she always appeard so refined later.

made me want to go out and buy a baby leopard.

Of course. He and Minnie Driver are both hilarious. Great chemistry. Not enough Jeremy Piven though.
