That said, I haven't seen it since it first came out on DVD, so it's been a couple years - maybe I'd think differently now. |
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) - 10/10.
Finally got around to seeing this. Definitely as great as people make it out to be. One of the best films I've ever seen. Color Me Kubrick (2005) - 7/10. Not as good as I thought it was going to be but still worth a watch. |
The Scorpion King
Look, it was on t.v o.k.... 2/10 |
EDMOND
I've seen it mentioned here, so when I saw it was on IFC I checked it out. What an amazing film. Stunning David Mamet script and breathtaking performance by William H. Macy. CUBE Was also on IFC. It was an intriguing film, but I got distracted in the last 5 minutes so I have no idea how it turned out! |
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
I think it'd be more accurate to say--this 160 minute long length feature film is somewhat inspired by the short story with the same title of F. Scott Fitzgerald...not based on. Though they changed lots of thing from Fitzgerald's story but it still remains a great film to watch. >>: A- |

One word sums up this movie completely. Meh. 5/10. |
Låt den rätte komma in (Let The Right One In)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...onogrl/let.jpg Gorgeous. Touching. Well-crafted. A wonderful new way to tell the vampire story. Also very dark and macabre, especially the ending. I thought that Lina Leandersson as Eli, the little vampiress was absolutely stunning, charming, and horrifying. Kåre Hedebrant as Oskar, her human friend was a bit of a slovenly rube who got on my nerves a bit, but who was ultimately charming. There were some continuity issues that I'm not sure came from poor editing or got lost in translation, but all in all this was a good film. One of the things that really stuck out to me was its gritty, rough nature - It's not as easy to kill someone as you might think. All in all, I recommend it. 4/5 ... Right At Your Door http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...oor_poster.jpg Wow. An incredibly intense look at panic and human drama in L.A. when a dirty bomb is dropped and one couple struggles to deal with the aftermath. Gritty, real, horrifying, and absolutely gripping. An intense study of the human will to survive coupled with instinct, panic, and confusion. Brilliantly done, well-acted, and a fantastic script. 4/5 ... Sílení (Lunacy) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...yposterij1.jpg Jan Svankmajer, the same director who put together the absurd film Alice fathers an even more self-indulgent preachy piece of experimental European faux art tripe. Attempting to channel the Marquis de Sade and give the finger to organized religion and establishment, Lunacy instead comes off condescending and pretentious. What a load of - 1/5 |
The Octagon - old school Chuck Norris
Eastern Promises - engrossing - hell of a bunch of performances from a bunch of non russians .. i was convinced. |
Saw V
-Movie of the year compared to what I was expecting. That doesn't make it good, just watchable. 5/10 Four Christmases -Decent and funny enough. 6/10 Yes Man -Carrey's best since... well, only good one since Eternal Sunshine. Fun with some good laughs throughout. 7/10 Mum and Dad -Nothing new, but still pretty good n twisted. 7/10 The Wrestler -I see this as I do Ray and The Queen. Good, very well done film, that doesn't quite hit the next level, though it does have that great performance that lifts it. 7.5/10 Frost/Nixon -Starts casual and builds tension along the way to a great scene between the leads, that sets off the final 30 minutes or so, which is played perfectly and makes the film. The whole movie is well done, but that final act.. perfect. 8.5/10 Milk -The story's already there, so it's a matter of how it's told and acted, which I thought was perfectly fine. And James Franco is becoming a favorite actor of mine. 8.5/10 Slumdog Millionaire - 9/10 The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 9.5/10 |
"Corpse bride" 6/10
Didn't do a whole lot for me. A little sad at the end, but that was it. The classical music score was beautiful tho. |
Eden Lake 5/10
Had a good concept to it but could have been better. Some good, disturbing scenes but overall it just fell flat in the end. |
The Wrestler - raw, unrelenting, sad, depressing, amazing. Mickey Rourke was nothing short of perfect. Aronofsky is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors. This movie's ending is of the most hard hitting I've ever seen.

Wanted
A real blast from beginning to end. That being said, the performances were mediocre. But the sequences more than make up for that. Its just an entertainer, nothing more. Rating - * * * Mr and Mrs Smith This one is for all the Pitt-Jolie fans who would go ga-ga over them. I wasnt impressed much. Add to that a real eyeroll of a premise. Rating - * * ½ Shoot 'Em Up Just like Wanted, a total cheesy entertainer. But this one has some pretty decent performances from all 3 leads, which makes this much more entertaining than Wanted. Rating - * * * ½ I Am Legend Sure, its a remake, but it was decent. Not so much by Will Smith who had the chance to impress the shit out of me but fell several notches, except the "dog" sequence (would you believe if I told you I was really touched when that happened). and the "dining table" sequence. As for the rest, CGI creatures didnt do much to add to the flavor of the flick. The shots of empty New York, with grass growing all over the concrete pavements, however, were really breath-taking. Rating - * * * |

Amityville - the new one...not having seen ANY of the original, or the sequels and various (how many exactly, anyone?) spin-offs that were drummed out thereafter, I'm not entirely sure how this one would rate in comparison.
There were some interesting effects and a few jumps, it was "ok" but I wouldn't consider it all that great. I'm not much ito the modern remakes of this type of film, had the same "attempted" atmosphere of the one missed call/grudge remakes that gets close but doesn't quite hit the mark. It's ok, and I wouldn't advise against watching it, just not really my thing. |
Surveillance (2008/2009)
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_tkiNWRwbdg...rveillance.jpg Synopsis: Two FBI agents, Elizabeth Anderson (Julia Ormond) and Sam Hallaway (Bill Pullman), arrive at a local police station in the Santa Fe desert to investigate a series of murders. They interrogate three Witness|eyewitnesses: Police officer Jack Bennet, the meth-addict Bobby, and Stephanie, an eight-year-old girl, whose family was murdered by two figures dressed in jumpsuits and latex masks. The story unfolds in an interesting way by interviewing the witnesses/suspects and finding their different point of views & lies about the incident that helped to build up the tension and gave a nice premise for a decent mystery thriller flick. Though the "little twist" at the end was quite able to ruined the whole set up but overall it's worth a watch for the well casts and the gore parts. Surveillance directed by Jennifer Lynch...daughter of David Lynch who is also the executive producer of this movie. >>: B- Splinter (2008) not bad, just okay but could have been much better. >>: C+ Pride & Glory (2008) http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/482/pg1gk4.jpg A decent Police drama...that's all. >>: B |
The heartbreak kid.
Not too bad...could've been well funnier. |
Right At Your Door
After seeing a couple of positive reviews here I thought I would check out the first 10 minutes or so last night. It was late....work in the morning so I just wanted a taste......bad idea....it hooked me pretty quick. THIS is a real horror movie. Acting was spot on. Highly recommended. |
Wanted - very above average action film ... joind the ranks of Crank, and Shoot 'em Up where a tired abused old genre is brought back to life ..
really enjoyed it. (the keyboard to the head is a new favorite scene of mine) |
Raising Cain
I'm in awe of John Lithgow right now...what a great performance! The movie itself was a bit of a letdown thanks to the writeup on the DVD cover being loaded with spoilers, but Lithgow was more than good enough to make up for it. Seriously, I can't quite see the point of that...the DVD box ruins pretty near the whole damn plot, save for the final twist. Bullshit. It was still a great movie, but I would have enjoyed it a lot had I not known exactly what to expect  |

also watched "The Funhouse"
always liked this one and its aged fairly well. Considering it came out in the early 80s.....didn't have none of that shitty 80s music and stupid hairstyles that's so prevalent in movies from that era. What it lacked in gore it made up in atmosphere. |

Tropic Thunder
It had its moments of stupidity, but for the most part I really enjoyed it. Not a masterpiece, but a really fun movie with some great comedic performances. |
The mummy

Gaslight (1944)
Absolutely sensational. This is a powerhouse of a movie, a thriller filled with all the things most suspense films are missing these days. To say that any of the performances are less than explosive would be a crime, but Ingrid Bergman is the one who shines brightest, giving what is probably her finest career role and I daresay one of the most chilling in noir history. The film, like its title subject, begins as a dim affair and slowly burns its way into gripping tension. Cukor does a fantastic job leading his audience into dark corners but never showing too much or completeing explanations until they must be revealed. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) Filmmaking on a grand scale, acted to perfection and meticulously drawn. The film isn't so much about what age does to our physicality but what time does to our souls, and while the story can be painful, and sometimes heartbreaking to watch, it is a warm picture about the beauty of mortality and the importance of enjoying what we've got when we've got it. It is becoming ever more clear that David Fincher is one of Hollywood's most promising talents, and his pictures seem to mature in both subject matter and craft with every step. This is a movie to get excited about- it's the kind of sweeping epic that places us somewhere else and makes us excited about the movies again. |
