Quantum of Solace.
Wonderful. The gritty, humane Bond of the previous movie becomes dark and brooding here. I am guessing after 20 flicks of basically the same stuff, the producers finally decided to make Bond look as human as possible...ergo Casino Royale and now this. Craig makes a wonderful 007, ably supported by Judi Dench's cameos. My only gripe - the camerawork in this one. The director had a lot of potential to make this as technically sound as he could, but in that one department he is lacking. The script is pretty good, and the direction is quite neat...although it looks like he ran out of ideas towards the end. I am eager to see where the series goes next. Rating - * * * ½ |
Anaconda 3...Well, I haven't finished watching it yet, I'm about to the middle...The CGI is overdone and far too obvious, much like in Anaconda and Anaconda 2, so I was expecting it anyway...I'll finish watching it when the baby lets me...I DID get to watch Alligator again for the first time in years...I still love it

Bachelor Party (1984) - 4/10.
Other than a couple of fairly funny moments, this film was pretty boring. |

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...X98_SY140_.jpg Little disappointed with this one. With the delightfully campy title and over-the-top movie poster I had high hopes for this one. It SCREAMS Evil Dead II meets Dead Alive, but doesn't necessarily do a particularly good job emulating either. That said, the beasties were simply awesome and I was impressed at its purposeful use of animatronic special effects to create its gruesome big bad. It also had some fantastic gory kills to go along with it. However, it took waaaaay too long to actually bring the monster onslaught and it almost lost me as a viewer. In terms of modern monster movies, Slither did it better. I give it a 2.5/5 ... The Cottage Obviously heavily influenced by Severance (incidentally, another film to come from Isle of Man Film Company), The Cottage started out slowly (TOO slowly), but then turned into a pretty damn good urbanoia mutant slasher film. Not perfect (Hatchet and Severance did it better), but definitely thoroughly enjoyable toward the end. I give it 3/5. |

I have Severance, but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet...Hopefully we can watch it tonight since Dustin FINALLY has a night off work...I'll be looking for Cottage now ;) |
I know this isn't a movie, but I wanted to post it here anyway:
Friday night I was able to catch a production of Evil Dead: The Musical. And, wow. What a blast. They pretty much meld the two plots from Evil Dead and Evil Dead II together, throw in a bunch of references from Army of Darkness, and occasionally change some aspects outright to make them funnier. However the latter fails several times, I must admit, i.e. they turn the character of Shelly into a "dumb blonde" and one long sex joke. Don't worry, though, it's certainly saturated with hilarious "inside jokes". At any rate, we sat in the first row, which was part of the "Splatter Zone". Throughout the performance (but especially in the second half) we were covered in blood. Certainly the most entertaining performance I've witnessed in a long, long time. If you love the trilogy, then this is mandatory (if it happens to come to your area). |

It doesn't come anywhere near us :( But LOOK! Raimi has given the okay for a 3D theatrical movie based on Evil Dead: The Musical, to be co-directed by the musical’s original director, Christopher Bond, and choreographer, Hinton Battle. Bond would like to begin filming next spring with members of the original cast, though the filmmakers will need to address “serious rights issues.” http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/09/08/...cal-the-movie/ It would be amazing to actually see it live, tho. |

The Phantom of Liberty (1974)
Another bizarre but delightful entry in Bunuel's masterful career. I'm finding that I really dig the work he did in the '70s. |

Really too bad considering just how long I waited for the second one... Quote:

Theatres seldom even do that here - maybe the really small "few and far between" moviehouses might...but they're usually showing boring arty shit. The only way I could get this to happen is actually hire a cinema for an event, I assume it'd be a tad expensive. Quote:
Go 1, 2, then TMNT. Quote:
I saw "hot rod" the other day. I felt it very much wanted to be an early adam sandler type film. Wasn't bad though, had a few good laughs and some...weird...random moments (cool beans...) overall, for what it was, I'd go 6.73/10 |
The Reaping.
I expected less, and was pleasantly surprised. I liked it. But then again, I have never not liked anything with Hillary swank. |

Yep...its still a horrible movie. Great fun to laugh at though. Watched part of Schumacher's commentary, too - just to see if he could defend himself somehow. I quit once he started talking about how important it is for a movie to be "toy-able". Jesus H. Christ... |

[Rec].
Swept off my feet. Hats off to the makers! (A small incident to note - When I popped it in and the initial interview with the fire chief was on, my wife peeked at the TV and asked what I was watching. I said it was a real-life "Recording" one of my friends sent me, and had asked me to watch it when I was totally alone with nobody to disturb me. She got curious, and insisted upon seeing it too. I shrugged like a good hubby, and started from the beginning... By the first 30 mins, she was clutching my right hand tightly, muttering "GOD!", repeatedly, under her breath... By the 45th minute, she slowly said "I dont think I can take this any more"... By the 55th minute, she looked at me incredulously and asked "Surely this cant be real! Can it? Tell me this is just another movie of yours..." End credits, she was sitting on the couch, totally stunned...holding a large pillow very close to her chest... I finally felt bad for her, and softly murmured "Yes, it was a movie..." She heard me, but didnt move...) :D |

Resurrection : This was the closest thing to Seven as I could find (which in my book gives it extra points). Overall, a pretty decent detective flick. The acting however is the movie's downfall. I guess if you can look past that you should be able to enjoy this one. 6.5/10

A Clockwork Orange
Now dont flame me for this but this was my first time viewing this and I didn't think it was the masterpiece people claim it is.I think mainly because it was hyped up by so many people and I expected to much of it.And I dont speak 70's British and had a hard time understanding alot of what they where saying. But I will say that Malcom Mcdowell put on a hell of a performance. |

Bladerunner (1982) - 10/10.
One of the coolest flicks I've ever seen. Rutger Hauer plays one of the best villains ever. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army (2008) - 8/10. Cool action film. Definetly on par with the first. |
Zombie Strippers. Not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. Still bad, but pretty fun at the same time. Worth a rental at least.

I know when I read the book, I had to keep referring to the glossary they included in the back: http://soomka.com/nadsat.html You should read up on it and try watching it again in the future. |
The Midnight Meat Train - Loses a bit of it's steam toward the end, but all in all, it was everything I was expecting it to be, perhaps a bit more bleak though.

My last film I watched was Spanglish with Adam Sandler, it was on TV last night. I didn't see it all though as I only caught the last twenty minutes. It seemed okay, with a genuinely moving end that explores themes such as what it means to be a mother, something I can hardly relate to, but appreciate nonetheless. Adam Sandler is an interesting actor to watch, I like the way he shouts, it adds complexity to character. Sometimes it doesn't always pay off, like the time I played a mouthy Malvolio in the Twelth Night, I kept shouting and in the end the director replaced me as I refused to compromise my artistic vision and interpretation of Malvolio. Still, each his own hey. I'm off now for auditions for Tennessee William's Hat on a Hot Tin Roof - I've got all my digits crossed I get Brick. I've been reading a Robert De Niro biography and he has inspired me to try a bit of method acting so I might drink a bottle of wine before I go to auditions as Brick is often portrayed as an insular drunk repressed by homosexual feelings, something I definitely can relate to. Anyway, I'm off topic here. My last horror film I watched was Dawn of the Dead remake, it was okay but I didn't watch it all as Spanglish was on.

Thriller: A Cruel Picture - I enjoyed it. The plot and villain in the movie were pretty good for a 70s exploitation film. However, the overall acting and the action sequences were a little bit sub-par. 6/10
Full Metal Jacket: Amazing movie. I think Gunnery Sergeant Hartman is one of my favorite characters of all time. It was funny, sad, tense, violent, beautifully shot...a complete movie. Kubrick really is one of the greatest directors ever. 9.5/10 |
