Hell Ride

I fuckin' dig this film a lot... one of the few recent films I've watched more than once.
Its a real shame it hasn't had a proper release. It really gets the feel of the older biker flicks down.

HELLBOY 2.....Lots of fun....if ya dig the first one...you will dig this one.

From what I heard, the studio involved went for a limited release because they didnt think it would do well at the BO. (ala Trick 'r Treat)

It had good reviews at Sundance though. Good reminder for me to pick up the DVD.

It's worth $7.00 folks. Actually, I was getting ready to have a few friends come over and watch it Monday night and I accidentally ordered the damn things tonight so I have to buy another rental on Monday. I wish I could buy the damn DVD but it doesn't appear to have any sort of release date.

I agree- it was well worth the $7 IMO.

can you copy these to a set top DVD burner - until the authentic movie can be purchased ?

I don't know... don't have a set-top and my PC burner is broken still. Would be nice though.

_____V_____ 11-08-2008 09:40 PM

Tamara.

I really dont see how people thought this one was even worth a watch. A real shoddy piece of filmmaking, and waste of time.

Gonna stick to creature flicks till the end of the month-long film fest. At least I get a kick out of the CGI in it, good or bad.

Phalanx 11-08-2008 10:07 PM

Taken.
I liked it.
Brutal.

You can transfer files from most DVR's to a computer, and I know you can record pay per view events on the comcast DVR. You could then use something like ConvertXToDVD or Nero to burn it to a DVD you could watch on a set top player.

Reminds me...

Caught a screening of JCVD over at the back-end theater yesterday.

Story and direction - good (he's gone the Rocky Balboa way with this one),
Acting - good from Van Damme, forgettable from others,
Action - disappointing choreography.

Overall Rating - * *

A dreadful porn slasher with disgusting level of gore. It's imdb reviews totally surprised me. How could anyone tolerate this kinda shit?

Quai des Orfèvres (1947)

A beautiful & lovable detective thriller. Now I need to see Cluzot's The Wages of Fear. :)

Had an Eastwood/ Siegel double feature last night. I watched:

Dirty Harry (1971) - 8.5/10.

Really great, gritty 70's cop flick. Awesome musical score. Eastwood kicks ass.

------

and.

------
Escape From Alcatraz (1979) - 8/10.

First time seeing this one. Great flick, highly reccomended.

Burnt Offerings – An Oliver Reed/Karen Black/Bette Davis horror movie from 1976. Some nice ideas, but ridiculously slow pacing actually made me fall asleep about three-quarters through it.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno:

Hahahaha.... except hardly. Maybe 3 laugh out loud or surprising moments, including the Justin Long appearance, but seriously? Kevin Smith may have just blown it.

5.5/10

The_Return 11-09-2008 04:59 PM

Changeling (2008)

...and so Oscar season begins anew.

When this movie wasn't focused on Jolie's character, it was simply stunning. I don't think Jolie was really bad by any means, but the film had such an astounding supporting cast that she looked pretty dull by comparison.

The story itself isn't anything overly groundbreaking, but it lends itself well to some moments of wonderfully intense drama. This one will do well at the Oscars folks, I'd bet good money on it.

If you like Eastwood's recent style of filmmaking, this one wont disappoint. I wouldnt go out on a limb to recommend it, but it's certainly a well made, well acted and simply great movie.

HOWEVER - I dont think I've seen a movie so explicitly beg for an Oscar since Harvey Korman's speech in Blazing Saddles. I dont know if Eastwood or the screenwriter are to blame, but some dialogue near the end of the film was beyond pandering.

I really liked Van Helsing! ...to each thier own I guess

I watched The Gift tonight.

It was a pretty good movie. I'm suprised I never heard of it when it came out back in 2000- slipped under the radar....

I give it a 7/10

urgeok2 11-10-2008 03:28 AM

Futurama - Benders Game

fun as always - and Zoidberg steals it - as always

Painfulldeath 11-10-2008 03:52 AM

Saw 5: Well...nothing spectacular about this one. Too much time was spent explaining certain parts in previous movies. The traps were nowhere near as cool as the ones in the previous 4 films. I guess if you just judge this one for what it is, you get an average horror flick. No more no less. 6/10.

Man Bites Dog: Original, sick, provocative, twisted...really good movie. 8/10

newb 11-10-2008 05:33 AM

Death Race.......it had none of the charm of the original it was loosely based on. Lots of action.....minimum plot. Not a horrible time waster I suppose.

The_Return 11-10-2008 06:32 AM

The Land Unknown

Compared to the other flicks I've watched from the Classic Sci-Fi boxset, this one was pretty weak....it wasn't really bad, I just didn't see the point.

Some great cheesy lines though, I suppose.

jenna26 11-10-2008 10:24 AM

Iron Man ~ loved it, so much fun.

The Life Before Her Eyes ~ I realized early on where they were heading with this one, and it really could have been interesting. The story was fine, the acting was fine.....but it felt....clumsy. And it just never really pulled me in.

Painfulldeath 11-10-2008 10:34 AM

Requiem for a Dream: Wow. It was absolutely as good as its reviews. Having dealt with drug issues in the past, it really hit home in more ways than one. This movie is so powerful and guarantees to have a lasting effect on you. 9.5/10.

Jurassic Park: The Lost World.

I'd credit it as a 5/10

I'm Not There (2007) - 9/10.

Excellent film about the multipilicity of Bob Dylan. Reccomended to anyone, not just Dylan fans.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Pan's Labyrinth (2006) - 8/10.

Probably my favorite fantasy movie out there. Guillmero Del Toro is a genius.

Elvis_Christ 11-10-2008 03:26 PM

The New Barbarians

Great stuff. I loved how the machine guns all sounded like they were shooting lazers :D

The_Return 11-10-2008 05:01 PM

Underdog (2007)

I've never watched the original cartoons, so I don't have the same complaints about this one as most people...I thought it was actually pretty fun, for what it was. Nothing special really, but it's a cute little piece of fluff - can't imagine ever watching it again, but I definitely enjoyed it.

The French Connection

Yes Alky, I finally got around to watching it - and what a movie it is! I'm at a loss for words, really...fantastic film.

"Ya' Ever Pick Your Feet in Poughkeepsie?"

The Incredible Hulk

2nd viewing...love this movie. Everything that a comic book superhero flick should be, and beyond entertaining. I think I actually like this one more than Iron Man, but they're neck-and-neck.
