I saw the Devil (Akmareul boatda)

Awesome movie, from the beginning to the end...not so much horror, more a crime/drama with some horror elements, but definitely worth watching ! 8/10

Gin Gwai (The Eye)

The movie starts out as a horror film, but the scares are mostly scattershot. Afterwards, the film transforms into a romance, drama, and mystery. It works much more as a tragic thriller because it is very heart-rending, engrossing, and suspenseful. Recommended for Asian cinema connoisseurs.

The scene in the elevator is a tough contender for scariest movie scene I've ever seen...wow, that was intense.

7/10

Ringu

Wasn't impressed by this one. It was completely ruined by the fact that there was hardly a creepy atmosphere like the remake. I also didn't like how the guy just so happened to have psychic powers in order to figure out where to go next, rather than do actual investigation.

4/10

"Dark Tales of Japan" 5-6/10

A japanese horror anthology made by well known horror directors such as Takashi Shimizu (Ju-on), Masayuki Ochiai (Infection), Kji Shiraishi (Noroi) etc.

The stories are definitely more peculiar than scary and most of them either lack a climatic ending or the climax is just way too short. First story about the spider lady is by far the most satishfying.

ALTER EGO 2002

A photo shoot at a school goes all kinds of wrong for everyone involved. The school isn't creepy or deserted. Its probably just closed for the weekend and its a bright sunny day.
Nice straight to the point story, pleasing special effects and not as much long black hair as you'd think.

Ju-On: The Beginning of the End -- 5/10; Some of the scares were hilarious and made me pine for a full-on Ju-On comedy.

Doesn't quite live up to Oldboy, but blows Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance out of the water. This is a near perfect film - Chan-wook Park is easily one of the most talented storytellers working today. He tells an incredibly complex story through unconvential methods, and manages to draw the viewer into Geum-ja's quest for revenge.

Amazing visuals, lots of twists and enough moral ambiguity to really give you something to think about long after the credits roll. See it if you haven't.

This is the second Korean film I've seen and both were equally amazing in their story telling. Mr. Park Chan Wook definitely knows how to tell a story.

Over Your Dead Body -- 4.5/10; Forgettable, apart from the fetus-eating scene.

Damn Heathen 03-11-2015 01:40 AM

Tell Me Something -- 7/10; Cuts straight at the start, then veers off into basic thriller territory.

Damn Heathen 03-11-2015 09:35 AM

Wild Zero -- 2.5/10; I love how every other horror movie has a scene where someone follows a blood trail in a wide-open space, ignoring everything in front of them until they've come to close to the obvious danger.

Baby Blues - 3.5/10

Astral_Absynthe 03-17-2015 08:00 AM

The last one I saw was Silk (Guisi). It was a very good mixture of paranormal horror and science fiction. It could have benefited by having a bit more scares, but not bad at all. 7/10.

Your Scuppered Pinnace -- 8/10; Layered and thought-provoking.

I have this love/hate relationship with Korean cinema. They make me feel all types of emotions and shit. Fuck. Excellent film.

Indian epic fantasy! Very impressive & way better effort in compare to any other big budget Indian or Bollywood films made so far. Not only the stunning visuals supported by good CGI made it a highly entertaining watch but the simple plotted well executed story as well as the cast & their performances, all worked together pretty nicely here.

I really really liked this adaption of the animated show, which I only got 6 episodes into (pretty much the entire first movie), then I couldn't take the over-(voice)acting anymore. The movie did have one over-the-top character, but at least we only have to deal with just 1.

Looking forward to the sequels which are coming soon. ::smile::
