Sleepy Hollow (1999)

BH14 10-23-2008 11:44 PM

I saw "Saw 5" and I was disappointed in this movie. This movie definitely had the worst traps in the entire series but the plot really suffered as well. The series is getting worse and worse as it goes on.

5.5/10

Tokyo Gore Police and Home Movie <-- This movie was serious fun and highly unsettling.

That's a shame...I was keeping my hopes up for this one.

I've been pushing Home Movie for a while now, how'd you see it? I've seen it once and I would LOVE to pick it up before Halloween. Those kids were so perfect for those roles.

CrimsonFiend138 10-24-2008 10:44 AM

As a Hulk fan I thought the Ang Lee Hulk was good, should have been more action packed because it IS the Hulk but the CGI and the first time I saw him transform I thought was awesome. I call myself a fan but I still haven't seen the new movie but I have been hearing it's awesome.

Not a big Iron Man fan BUT I loved the movie and was surprised at how good it was. I def recommend that.

UngodlyWarlock 10-24-2008 11:11 AM

Last House in the Woods - 6/10

I can appreciate their attempts to sort of mimic the 70s/80s italian horror movie vibe (of course the movie is Italian itself, but it obviously takes more effort than that), but overall the movie was pretty stale and the characters annoying. It had a pretty nasty neck goiter popping scene, which was awesome and cringe-worthy, but other than that kind of a mess from start to finish.

I also didn't mind the Ang Lee Hulk - it's no masterpiece, but it's way better than it gets credit for. That said, this new version absolutely blows it out of the water. Ed Norton is perfect for Banner, and Tim Roth makes an awesome Blonsky (even though they do switch around some aspects of the character).

And if you thought Hulk's CGI was awesome before...prepared to be blown away.

They showed it at the Toronto After Dark film fest. I feel bad that I've forgotten his name but the producer was there for the showing and came out to the pub afterwards. He was part of Girl Next Door and he also has a couple of Jack Ketchum adaptations coming (including "The Offspring" which I now have a tshirt for lol)

I loved it, the kids were perfect (and actually brother and sister) which doesn't happen often. I don't watch TV at all but Pasdar was solid as well, likeable but not quite normal. I don't think you'll find it in time for Halloween but everybody else should track it down and give it a watch.

One of my fest favorites.

Tropic Thunder, a lot better than I expected. Well done.

why would they make a movie for Offspring before making a movie for its predecessor, Off Season?

Painfulldeath 10-24-2008 03:12 PM

Saw Evil Dead 2 for the first time. Excellent movie. Now I see how the movie went from the original to Army of Darkness.

I think someone other than those involved with Offspring own the film rights for that one. But I just read the other day that they have a director now for Off Season, not sure if that is a rumor or if that's a sure thing though.

The Mothman 10-24-2008 03:31 PM

Ever since I read the book i thought it would make an awesome movie. good thing they might be doing something with it.

The Mothman 10-24-2008 03:43 PM

Then again I also thought Cell would make a good movie until I saw that Eli Roth is gonna direct it.

The Great Dictator (1940)

The_Return 10-24-2008 07:30 PM

Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2

You know, I think I have to go with the masses on this one...really wasn't crazy about it. It had potential, but the script was an absolute dud. Maybe if they'd ran it through another couple revisions it could have been good...but as is, it was pretty dumb.

Saw V

Next up,Ichi The Killer and then Battle Royal

Woohoo!!!

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) in 3D.

My third year seeing it, and it's still wonderful.

Shorts -
Trick or Treat (Disney cartoon)
Vincent
Frankenwienie

Movies -
Twilight Zone: The Movie
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Saw V

Saw V - I really liked this one, I agreed with my buddy when he said that it seems to be drifting more toward a gory crime drama and that's a good thing I think. If they're going to continue with more movies than the focus shifting more toward detective work will really fit the series. I also liked the fact that MOST of the traps were less sophisticated in V than previous movies.

*MINOR SPOILER*

Did anybody else think that, since V starts immediately after IV, there is a possibility that Hoffman has not even been to the autopsy of Jigsaw yet? Especially since in the beginning of IV he says that if he is hearing the tape he's probably the last one standing and that he won't walk away "undented". I'm kind of banking on the fact that the beginning of IV will be the beginning of VI as well but who knows.

What was the fucking point? So one has a compound fracture and the other is old. whoopdy do. christ, if i endure another 2 hours of a movie for another stupid, pointless, resolutionless spanglish-style ending, i am going to take hostages. i dont care how artfully done it was, it was pointless.

The Mole People (1956)

After watching this movie, decided to look it up on IMDB...I have no idea why this movie gets so much hate! MST3K even had a show with it...

I thought this was a great fun little sci-fi flick. Sure it was cheesy, but what 50's monster movie isnt? I thought the monsters were really cool, the "human" villains were great (Who knew Alfred could be so evil?), and the overall concept was an awesome fantasy/sci-fi plot.

Sure, the actors are a little wooden, and the effects are a little shaky...who the hell cares? If you like 50's sci-fi, this is pretty near a must-see.

Geddy 10-25-2008 11:11 AM

Superbad...

UngodlyWarlock 10-25-2008 01:02 PM

Completely agree. I thought I was the only person that hated that movie.
When it gets to the part at the hotel, that was where I really felt like I had just wasted time watching it.

Javier Bardem's character was pretty cool, but unfortunately the movie as a whole did nothing for me.

sorry, it lost me after the first viewing. I am through with "slice of life" and "what happens in a day" movies. I want a beginning to end plot.

70's- Retro action no-brainer. It wasn't meant to be Shakespeare, just a Bronson flick without Bronson.

Quarantine (2008)

Nope! It wasn't a complete scene to scene remake...there were few additional scenes also! The reporter girl was little bit annoying on some scenes. Though some footage were hazy but I'm not actually sure about it cause last night I saw it on a camera print:o. Overall, I think it wasn't a bad effort but completely unnecessary. The original was a gem.

Maybe not so close to Bronson, but a lot of the plot was lifted from Don Siegel's Charley Varrick. Other than how the protagonist acquires the mob money and the final resolution, very close. Bardem was just playing Molly.
