I actually own that one on DVD. Pretty much everything that happens in it is completely preposterous.
An incredibly entertaining watch.

My version was only VHS. Not that I think a DVD transfer would improve it an awful lot :D

This is one cool movie.
When I was a kid, I remember watching it the night it premiered on Disney, I think it was. I was so pumped about it. After that, I used to watch it at least five times every Hallowe'en season.
I've always wanted to pick up the book.

You really should. The book is amazing- of course- it's Bradbury. It's darker than the cartoon.

So many awful, memorable scenes.

the Strangers...

well... what can I say? It started off good, and then the ending... every post i have read so far was right. What a shit ending. Honestly, the movie started falling apart mid way through (I GET IT, they are sneaky... christ)

very disappointed.

damn. I was holding out for the dvd, hoping the extended/unrated/whatever would make it better :(

I watched Benny and Joon for the billionth time last night (Dereks first) I think I ruined it for him by reciting every line but he says it's cool.

same here. Nope. It really does everything right in the beginning, and you spend the first 2/3 with some great suspense, but then just DIES by the end.

jenna26 10-22-2008 11:02 AM

Rogue ~ got kind of bored with this pretty quickly, though the croc looked pretty good, I'll give it that.

Fear House ~ not quite as bad as I was expecting, had the potential to be pretty decent I think, but in the end was just.....mediocre and sometimes a bit annoying.

Abominus 10-22-2008 11:12 AM

I'm almost overdosing here. Since Friday I've watched:

Let the Right One In
Idiots and Angels
Mirage Man
Repo! The Genetic Opera
Donkey Punch
Brain Dead (Kevin Tenney's, not the classic)
Trailer Park of Terror
Red
4BIA
Netherbeast Inc.
Who is KK Downey?

Those were all at the After Dark Film Festival, on my own time I've sat through:

Midnight Meat Train
Return to Sleepaway Camp
Pulse 2

There goes my firm grip on reality. Oh well, reality's overrated.

Any questions?

Just one: when you completely crack, can you tell us if you see anything HP Lovecraft described? Or better still, take pictures :)

heard good things about this - how was it ?

Abominus 10-22-2008 12:36 PM

It will involve some insane scene in the middle of Bloor St. surrounded by fanboys. I'm sure there will be plenty of pictures. I'm off to see Mutant Chronicles and South of Heaven...watch the headlines.

hellfire1 10-22-2008 07:07 PM

Casino
Zombie Strippers - It's all in the title. Super stupid, ridiculous, but also very fun.

Phalanx 10-22-2008 08:38 PM

Disturbia
Not bad, would probably be a pretty good introduction into the thriller genre for younger folk, actually eg - lots of bodies, jumps, bit of tension, yet minimal onscreen violence, and not too many actual kills.
But yeah not a bad watch at all, even if it's just todays most recent "rear window" remake.

CrimsonFiend138 10-22-2008 08:57 PM

2001 maniacs. I liked it.

neverending 10-22-2008 11:32 PM

2001 Maniacs.

They completely missed the charm of the original- the Northerners were so annoying and vacuous you rooted for the Southerners to do them in.

In this remake the Northerners were normal, average college kids. You don't hate them. So the dynamic is reversed- I didn't want the Southerners to kill them, which made the story very average. There were a few fun touches here and there, though- like a little girl pressing a rat to death in a cider press.

The Third Man (1949)

>>: A+

Zombie Strippers

ya got zombies...ya got strippers..ya got Robert England
pretty much what you would expect. Put your mind on hold and have a bit of fun.

Kane_Hodder 10-23-2008 06:11 AM

1408.
Generously overdone, and largely ineffective. I think I preferred The Shining a lot more than this film.

urgeok2 10-23-2008 06:16 AM

Brotherhood of the Wolf

pinkfloyd45769 10-23-2008 06:56 AM

The Breed,i think that was the name of it.It was about mutant dogs,i love those kinda movies:D

Dante'sInferno 10-23-2008 07:49 AM

Idle Hands and Big Bad Wolf.

Demon Seed 10-23-2008 08:01 AM

One Missed Call one and two

The ringtone sent a small chill, down my spine...In other words, I freakin' loved it!

jenna26 10-23-2008 09:14 AM

The Strangers ~ well, first of all, what the hell do these people have against calling the damn police? I mean, are you freakin' kidding me? Anyway, I have mixed feelings about this one. Its well acted, I think Liv Tyler did as good a job as she could have with her role. And there is some really good build up of suspense near the beginning. Then as some people have said, it starts to fall apart pretty quickly. But I do think it is worth a watch, just disappointing and a little frustrating.

alkytrio666 10-23-2008 09:36 AM

Phantasm (1978)

I'd never seen it. I just got my world rocked- this is one of the collest horror movies I've ever seen.

Abominus 10-23-2008 10:13 AM

Mutant Chronicles, South of Heaven and Hellboy 2

American Psycho

Patrick Bateman:"I like to dissect girls. Did you know I'm utterly insane?"

One of my favorite quotes from the film. Here's my favorite:

Patrick Bateman:I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don't know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip.

Love it. Is it weird that whenever I can't sleep, I watch this movie. I stay awake and interested through the whole thing, no matter what time it is or how many times I've seen it. Then when the movie's over I feel relaxed, content and I fall asleep.

Do you watch Dexter?

If not, you really should. Lots of parallels with Pat Bateman - if you like one it's hard not to like the other. Dex isn't nearly as sadistic, but they're kindred spirits to be sure.

Dante'sInferno 10-23-2008 04:16 PM

@Miss macabre:I love the opening.Love the instrumental. It sooths me too

@The Return:I've always been interested in that show,I just never got the chance to watch it.I'll be sure to check it out now.Thanks.:D

Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla,

I am a huge fan of Ritchies' style and this one is pretty good. A solid "B".. a little long, but some great characters and Richie's dialogue is back to top notch..

Seconded, definitely.
Very cool show.

"Nevada Smith" (1966)
-Steve McQueen

Synopsis: IMDB
A naive half-Indian, half-white man evolves into a hardened killer as he tracks down his parents' murderers.

Phantoms Review: Solid well made western action tale. Good acting and an interesting story about a persons quest for revenge.

"The Reaping" (2007)
-Hillary Swank
Pretty decent thriller about the 10 Biblical plagues

The Incredible Hulk - 8/10
Now this is how is supposed to be. Marvel continues to make good comic book filx. Norton nailed the role of Bruce Banner. That Ang Lee Hulk flix was horrendous. I'm glad they got it right this time.

Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000)
Ok, since I have seen this film roughly 431x
I think I can manage a review.
Peter Fonda is actually dead in this movie, the producers just didn't care.

Plunge hot pokers deep into your eye sockets if you even glance at this accidently if it is playing near you, don't listen to the voices that tell you to buy this film even if they threaten certain doom. Always remember, watching this will be worse.
And if you do buy it(dumbass:rolleyes: ) and your child watches it, call 911 immediately.
Have exterminators come by for a emergency dusting of your house and have the HazMat people dispose of said video.
Unfortunately you will be carted to the nearest padded room and committed under law until time of death but your kids and cats will be fine after extensive shock therapy.

chewchew mooey,CHEWCHEW MOOEY !!!!CHEWCHEWMOOEYAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
I hear this non-stop, my sanity is gone
