Wasabi
And the first disc of Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theater. |
The American Nightmare
Best horror documentary I've ever seen. Really inspiring. 8.5/10 Full Tilt Boogie Fun stuff, really interesting documentary about the making of From Dusk 'Till Dawn that becomes a tad self-indulgent at times. I would have loved to ahve been on that set - looked like making that movie was a ton of fun. 7/10 |

quarantine (2008)
eh, it wasn't bad. it just seemed mostly lackluster after seeing the original. however, what intrigued me most about seeing it was the reactions of the audience. it's clear to see the difference between american audiences and pretty much the rest of the world. the intent of the original filmmakers was left fairly intact (with a lot less hollywood-type tamperings than i anticipated), so what was meant to be terrifying in the original, or even genuinely creepy, was many times laughed at by the people in the theatre. i found the same phenomenon when i watched the funny games remake. obviously made with the same intent delivered on non-american audiences, the reactions in the small theatre in northern indiana in which i saw it ranged from nervous laughter to walking out to walking out and then back in, back out, back in, and so on to seemingly involuntary outspoken reasoning of the action onscreen (i.e. "why is he doing that? oh, it must be because _______. but wait! why in the world would they do that?! is it because _______." etc.). it was quite fascinating. of course, i myself am an american viewer, so why did i notice it? i don't know. anyway, back to the film at hand: save your money and rent it, unless you have no way of seeing the original right now. |
I had the experience of seeing Eyes Without a Face at a small art theatre here in Portland with a mostly college crowd. The "sophisticated" college students were mostly laughing at the film and mocking it. I was appalled.

i would literally kill a man for the chance to see that on the big screen. there's a wonderful festival in chicago that i usually go to each year, and they're actually showing it this year. however, some serious financial problems are probably going to keep me from going (which really, really sucks). anyway, that's unbelievable. it's a good thing 99.9999% of the films i see in theatres aren't as good as eyes without a face, otherwise i think i'd be very depressed. |
Quarantine
Sucked. Camera was too damn shaky I couldn't see anything that was going on and it was just not creepy at all. Too predictable and Quote:

********SPOILER ALERT********************* I KNOW! i had seen the original already when i saw the trailer for quarantine, and i could not believe they showed the ending! not that it's anything special, but still! it's the principle of the thing. ************END SPOILERS********************* another unbelievable thing about my experience watching quarantine: some stupid assholes actually brought their one-year old child in the theatre. the poor guy started wailing during every scary scene. ugh, some people. |
