watching this movie makes me feel sick, Keitel plays such a convincing junkie, his acting in the church sent shivers down my spine. damn good film. |

The Insider.
This could be the best movie of the 90s, IMO. Superbly paced and directed, and with awesomely good performances by Pacino and Crowe. In case of Crowe, his portrayal completely blows away any sort of accolades he got for Gladiator...man, just check him out in this one. The supporting cast is great too, with Colm Feore (brilliance personified) & Chris Plummer leading the pack. If you ever have a choice to watch any ONE movie in your entire life, watch this. You will be left gasping for air when the end credits start rolling. I give this one a HUGE rec. Watch it. A-S-A-P. Rating - * * * * ½ |

sukiyaki western django (2008)
haha, goodness...where to begin? i got to see this on the big screen as part of a weekend-long "b-movie celebration". i figured i knew what i was getting myself into watching a spaghetti western by takashi miike (and featuring quentin tarantino), and in a way, it's precisely what you might think. however, there are a few points that took me by surprise. it's quite easy to tell that miike and his bunch have a profound love for the genre, and made the film not only to pay homage, but to have a blast doing it. the result is a goofy, gory, WAY over-the-top film, packed with all of the essentials of the spaghetti western; savagely convoluted plot, brow-furrowing dialogue, lots of cool characters, leonesque close-ups, cinematographic grandeur, intermittent flashbacks, a soundtrack that morricone himself could have easily written, and so on. miike, on a technical level, does a great job of keeping the pacing right and balancing between comedy, drama, and action. and the gore is most ample, and very much traditional miike. all in all, it's definitely a lot of fun. i'd recommend it for sure, especially to lovers of the genre, because that's who they made it for. --------------------------------------- also, a question for people who have seen death of a ghost hunter (2007): is it any good? what'd you think? thanks in advance! |

Day of the Dead (remake/reworking)
ended up liking this one ... fast zombies again - (some doing weird shit like crawling across ceilings and jumping like spiders) - for the visual effect - nothing that could be explained as an effect of how they became zombies - but i didnt mind at all - i kind of liked the way it looked. characters slightly elevated above the typical cliches ... and i like how they rejigged 'Bud' all in all - it could have been a lot worse - it kept me interested and i didnt roll my eyes once (which i do a lot with zombie films these days) |
Day of the dead Remake was good film.

I've actually got the DOTD film you guys are referring to...is it independant of the last DAWN film, or a sequel?
I might check it out soon all the same, it's been sitting around for a while now. If this one isn't a contunuation, IS there actually a planned sequel to the ?2004? dawn? Last seen movie...I can't remember... I watched HELLBOY 2 a little while back, which I thought was really good, an improvement on DT's first attempt. Great stunt coreography and an atmosphere all its own. |

Boogie Nights
Well, I've now seen all of P.T. Anderson's major films (aside from Sydney/Hard 8 and a few shorts), and I have to say that he's yet to disappoint. This one wasn't my favourite of his work (that goes to There Will Be Blood, followed by Magnolia), but it was still a fantastic movie. Great performances, great script, great camera work...just an all-around great movie. |

-Pineapple Express Another good one from Rogen and company. -The Wizard of Gore(1970) Heavily prefer the remake. |
went back to the b-movie thing today and got to see these on the big screen:
for a few dollars more (1965) night of the living dead (1968) psycho (1960) fright night (1985) -after fright night, i got to meet its writer/director, tom holland (also responsible for child's play, the langoliers, thinner, etc.), and had a nice little chat with him, and finally found out why jerry dandrige eats fruit throughout the entire film (i had always wondered.). anyway, he signed my copy of the film. lots of good fun. |
That sounds awesome fortunato!
