Wizard Of Gore (2007)

Really dug the spin they took on the original story. The great cast keeps this one rocking along. Its not as bloodthirsty as the original.
Guess this will slip lots of people by because its a remake.... their loss.

So I suggested my Mom and Dad watch Hard Candy on the basis that Ellen Page is in it and they liked Juno. They liked it, and I am so glad. They almost never watch anything independant or good, never mind a less than romantic comedy plot line.

Elvis_Christ 09-06-2008 11:33 PM

Ellen Page is annoying, I can't stand her.

a lot of people can't. i think she has a lot of talent but she needs to go beyond the quirky one liners. same with michael cera, he needs to play a non-nerdy role before i can take him seriously.

wow, what a blast!
a fantastical, humorous, and touching story that plays out in both fantasy and reality.
solid acting and an excellent story provide a strong foundation upon which stunning visuals and gorgeous compositions are layered, and layered, and layered.
tarsem singh got it right this time, in a big way.
in my opinion, one of the best new films i've seen this year.
highly recommended.

Agree with you word by word. The cute little girl did an extremely beautiful job with her role. It's a visually & emotionally spectacular movie for all ages. This year's Pan's Labyrinth!

amen brother.

i thought she was effective in Hard Candy - but Juno made me want to put my foot through the TV.

the fact that she's being idolized by a million little copy cat wannabe's mekes me nuts too.

what a contrived phony bullchit character that was.

"Tropic Thunder" 5-6/10

Not funny.

"Postal" 5-6/10

A lil bit funny.

_____V_____ 09-07-2008 08:49 AM

Blade.

Sat down with the wife last night and enjoyed this. Snipes was coolness personified as the comic hero, plus some really good background music and choreographed moves (combined with CGI) made this a chic entertainer, from start to finish.

Terrible female lead though. She was as bland as a wooden board splashed with lemonade.

Rating - * * *

Bought and watched the animated Dr. Strange movie. Really enjoyed it.

"Murder By Decree" (1979)
-Christopher Plummer, James Mason

Plot Synopsis: IMDB
Sherlock Holmes is drawn into the case of Jack the Ripper who is killing prostitutes in London's East End. Assisted by Dr. Watson, and using information provided by a renowned psychic, Robert Lees, Holmes finds that the murders may have its roots in a Royal indiscretion and that a cover-up is being managed by politicians at the highest level, all of whom happen to be Masons. Homes races to save the life of Annie Crook who has been forcibly incarcerated in an insane asylum and that of her friend Mary Kelly, in whom she has entrusted her secret.

Phantom's Review: One of the best Sherlock Holmes movies ever made. Great cast, Fine acting, and a superb story. I love this movie.

Let me know what you think. This was a more-than-pleasant surprise and I would even go as far to say that it's one of my favorite cult classics of all time. I nearly bought it on a whim, but wanted to see it first - Wish that I had just gone and purchased it.

I honestly think that you'll like it, Des.

Into The Wild - 8/10
What a great story and film. Penn did an excellent job directing and the acting was stellar.

I'm gonna start watching the Masters of horror. Seen Pelts and I liked it and I just watched the first one called "incident on and off a road mountain" Which I liked. I liked the look of the killer and i figured it was just another slasher but no it was pretty good. The masters of Horror series seems pretty good.

They're hit-and-miss, but more hits than misses IMO.

Carpenter's Cigarette Burns and Malone's Fair Haired Child are the best ones, IMO, but they're all at least somewhat enjoyable (I can't vouch for the whole series, but I own all of Season 1 and a good chunk of Season 2)

Elvis_Christ 09-08-2008 08:02 PM

The Masters Of Horror I've watched we're really decent. I've still got a bunch of S2 to watch. Cigarette Burns is definitely my favorite.

Has anyone watched the show Fear Itself? Is it any good? It's pretty much Masters Of Horror S3

Just finished watching TEETH (very tongue in cheek horror/comedy) and the new Spanish horror flick [REC]. WOW...I recommend catching this before the Hollywood remake (Quarantine) spoils it!

Phalanx 09-09-2008 02:59 AM

Idiocracy - not great, but not bad...the dumb folks got to be a bit annoying, worth a chuckle though... got it really cheap in a double box with office space.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie.
It was funny, but I've enjoyed the bits of the series I've seen more.
