I like it. It's not my favorite vampire movie, but, it's entertaining.

Dog Soldiers (2002)
8/10

Last night I saw this film for a second time. It was a bit better than I remembered. I appreciate films that know what they are and do that well... Dog Soldiers is one of those.

Good comparison film would be Aliens (1986): 'soldiers battling monsters, with authorities wanting the monsters for military'... except instead of aliens, it's werewolves. I thought the main characters in Aliens had more depth (and were both more likable & hateable), & Aliens had more interesting environments & subplot areas. I would've liked to know Pvt Cooper & Megan more... but again in this comparison, the characters were more a plot device for the action, whereas in Aliens one might argue the opposite. IMO, in the best films, characters change though their experience; not happening in Dog Soldiers.

Stake Land (2010)
5/10

A nicely shot precursor to The Walking Dead TV series (cept these are vampire-zombies). It's a bit too bleak & seemingly without much to say. Most film audiences want an enjoyable escape... or if not that, something educational... not much of either here.

Interview with the Vampire (1994)
6/10

Second time around, is much worse -- but I'm not faulting the film for that, as seeing the narrative for the first time is important (though I didn't remember much). I don't think there's much one would want to remember from this narrative, as I don't think much was learned... and otherwise, I found it a bit slow & plotting.

An Honest Liar (2014)
8/10

(Description - documentary, "World-renowned magician and escape artist James "the Amazing" Randi dedicates his life to exposing fake psychics and others who claim paranormal powers.") Well told story & style. What's not to like about exposing lies presented to make money?

Seriously, this movie is best watched with your eyes closed as both editing and camerawork is horrendous. The story sounds interesting on paper but is executed really badly. The movie is weird, all the characters are weird, the acting is weird. Poor Timothy Hutton. His throat must've been sore for weeks after all that overacting.

LAKE MUNGO 2008

A family can barely come to grips with the drowning death of their 16 year old daughter, Alice, and the strange goings-on that occur following. Shot like a documentary. Dark, claustrophobic and disturbing.
