commando is a classic, the dialogue sucks, the acting sucks, the plot is retarded, but somehow it all works and is a deeply satisfying movie.

I love the old over-balanced arnie movies, he gets a scratch to show he is human, but gets millions of bullets shot at him without so much as a graze, and a grenade blowing up at his feet gives him a temporary limp, but 3 people die for every bullet he shoots, his grenades kill everyone within 20 feet, and any explosive that goes off near a building has the power to turn the building itself into an explosive.

Ok, so not a movie per se, but still friggin' badass. Nathan Fillion + Neil Patrick Harris + Joss Whedon + Superheroes/Villains + Cynicism + Hilarity + SWEET music = the best way I can currently think of to kill 40 minutes.

Watch it right now!

Definitely. Not sure where I'd place it on an all time list, but certainly top 5 superhero flicks.

For sure. One of the best scripts written, ever.

i think if the part with the son and the gun was removed .. or at least handled a little more deftly/differently - it would be a perfect film.

that was the only part that didnt ring true to me ..

otherwise i thought it was great - a bold take on the genre.

neverending 08-05-2008 10:00 AM

The major flaw to me was the wife- it just wasn't a character. She was in like 3 scenes...

***SPOILER WARNING***

I think they did it just fine. It was but natural that the kid would think that some of his Dad's "special ability" had rubbed off on him.

***SPOILER WARNING***

I dont think so. She was pretty much an integral part of characterisation. The friction and chemistry she shared with Bruce was a highlight. And also, because she was a nurse by occupation, and tended to Mr. Glass.

Two very important points. Besides one other flashback revelation, when Bruce realises he had saved her from the "accident" years ago.

Yea, it was pretty damn cruel.

Compared to the rest of the movie the ending felt totally out of place, imo.

I have been wondering if the novella ended like that; i only read the first 10 pages.

The novella has a dark but optimistic ending. Nothing like the movie.

Agreed. Didn't like it at all... the ending, not the movie.

Cool, I will have to read the whole thing then. I have been obsessed with the story ever since I found out that Mark Laidlaw was so inspired by it that it became the foundation of Half-Life. I could not shake the similarities between the two, it was uncanny.

I sat through the whole thing thinking: In the right hands, a Half-Life movie could be incredible.

The Batman Superman Movie World's Finest (1997)

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover (1989)

One of the interesting thing was color construct of the costumes. As the characters passed from room to room, their colors of the costumes changed. Even the color of each room somewhat related to the incidents which normally took place there. Explicit sexuality, some graphic violences made it more colorful for a terrific movie experience. Michael Gambon (The Thief) & Helen Mirren (The wife) both performed brilliantly on their respective roles.

The Wild One

I enjoyed it, but it's not really all it's cracked up to be. Brando was fantastic, but until the ending I found the rest of it rather flat.

Hellen Mirren is a goddess ... never more beautiful than in that film.

Donnie Brasco - 8/10
Great film. I had not watched it in a decade. Depp and Pacino are a great team when on screen together.

I'm sooo looking forward to see it now. :p

urgeok2 08-06-2008 01:16 PM

yeah - it wasnt a good movie .. but i disagree with the review in one respect - i thought it was better than #2 ...

i want so bad to like Brendon Frasier .. he seems like such a nice guy ..
He's in a ton of stuff which gives me the impression that directors like working with him..

I just find him to be devoid of any charisma .. he's like a big blank spot on the screen. I think it's partly his choice in what works he takes .. he's been in more stinkers than Christopher Lambert ... but i think there's something esle - something intangeable ... he just doesnt fit on the screen well.

one exception : Gods and Monsters ... he did well in that film.
maybe he should stick to drama for a long while.

You didn't enjoy him in the first Mummy?

Thought he had some hillarious lines in that one. :)
