should I bother watching the rest of 3 extremes 2? I turned it off after the first story because it was really bad.

Funny.

I've happily forgotten every single one of those 3 stories.

"Tombs of the blind dead" 3/10

The tittie slicing was quite gross. Everything else was quite.. Zzzzzzzz

novakru 07-28-2008 07:17 PM

Henry Fool- jesus fucking christ.
Fay Grimm- holy shit.

Thumbsucker- I wonder how much money it took for Ritalin to make this movie?

I liked the first 3 Extremes a lot but "2" left a lot to be desired. It was predictable, slow, and forgettable as a whole but the shorts were ok watched one at a time.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

What a damn fun movie! It's got a few little flaws to be sure, but made for a VERY enjoyable night out.

This is a fantastic summer at the cinema...truth be told I haven't seen a whole lot of summer releases, but I haven't left the theatres disappointed once.

X-Files: I Want To Believe.

Yes I want to believe alright. The movie was unpredictable, like the old X-Files episodes, and Mulder & Scully did a great job keeping things going in perfect rivetting fashion. The only minor complaint I could have, is the Amanda Peet character, who I thought was a bit annoying. The atmosphere was well-maintained throughout, and the characters fleshed out nicely into their roles, aided by a superb script and good direction.

Overall, a good solid movie. Recommended to all the X-Philes out there.

Let's say that I've only seen about half of the 1st season of the actual show - will seeing this movie ruin anything from later in the series / will I be lost?

Nope.

Its a standalone story and script...more like an action/sci-fi for the most part until the climactic sequences.

Even if you have seen only 5-6 episodes and only know as much as who Mulder and Scully are, you will still love it.

Awesome - if it manages to stay in theatres long enough, I'll check it out in the near future :p

ah, _v_!
i'm so very happy to read your review.
i felt the same way. i walked out of that theatre feeling very satisfied.
a lot of complaints are aimed at the fact that it's very slow-paced. i loved this, though. it was perfectly understated, but still felt epic.

anyway, i'm glad you enjoyed it.

Rogue

So much better than that rubbish Black Water. Stephen Curry was great for laugh, pretty good performance all round, some very nice cinematography, not really enough jumps for me though.

6.5/10

It's a movie about nighttime and it's dark, and not just dark but darker than it has been on any night before.

You should check it out.

- Days of Darkness. .. so so zombie film .. tried to introduce some new ideas - but still fell back on some very worn cliches ...(including some terribly written characters) wasnt too bad overall.

- The Comebacks - I probably laughed once ... not very good.

The_Return 07-29-2008 07:49 AM

One of the most devastating films that I've ever seen...incredibly well written and acted, but the last 15 minutes or so are VERY hard to watch.

Running with Scissors:
I really, Really understood where the director was trying to go with this story, and I was so incredibly hopeful that at some point in this movie he would pull it off, even a LITTLE, somehow, someway.

But ALAS... my optimism was not justly rewarded.
Never rent this....ever.:(

Roderick Usher 07-29-2008 03:37 PM

Penelope

A cute little romantic fairy tale. Predictable, but cute.

7/10

"Dead mans shoes" 5-6/10

Decent low budget revenge flick with a minor surprise in the end.

It is. Thought the first 30 minutes really sucked.

And no, non GREAT action anywhere.

But it's got surprisingly good acting despite its very low budget.

An American Haunting.

Enjoyable and entertaining spookfest with a rather edgy climax. I can see why people didnt like it, and I would blame the makers for saying "based on true events" while it was actually an adaptation of a fiction novel, which gives the ending a more gritty and "blatant" feel.

Good performances, some solid atmospheric moments...and 1-2 truly jumpy sequences.

Drawbacks - annoying background music, and the Evil Dead-copycat camerawork showing the "entity" at work, and the loud whisperings working their way to sheer exasperation.

Still, I liked it, so sue me.
