Tod Browning's Freaks. You have no idea how excited I am to get this film.

Awesome. Amazing film.

I contradict you on the internet purchases...I prefer it.

Better prices, better selection, and DeepDiscount takes about 4 days to get here for me. I can wait.

The only way to go. Except for brand new releases you get better prices (by far sometimes), free shipping, and they rarely have shipping issues.

Nice choice, thats starting to get hard to find.

You know, Im starting to think that getting a part-time job may have been a mistake...the prospcet of being able to a buy a reasonably priced movie for every hour-and-a-half I work is way too tempting, especially combined with the fact that I have to walk past Zellers to get home from work....

That said, I just bought a movie that Ive been eying for quite awhile: The Party, with Peter Sellers. Being a huge fan of the Pink Panther films and Sellers's work in general, Ive been wanting to pick this up...and I finally got around to it. I have a pretty hectic week or two coming up, but I'll hopefully find time to watch it soon.

i hear some DVDs suffer from this as well..

I thought they lasted for ever. How long does that take to happen to discs?

its not a time issue .. its the glue used and/or the way it was pressed during manufacture.

not all discs will experience rot...

the ones that have it get progressivly worse through the years - but usually the process is pretty slow.

(even then a little speckling isnt a big deal)

the Discovision discs were the 1st laserdiscs so the technology has improved vastly since

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2

Ive been wanting to get this this for awhile, Ive been eyeing it whenever I go into CD Plus. I happened to be looking thorough the used bin at Blockbuster, and there it was, in great shape, for less than half what it would have cost new:D

While I was there, I also rented Tombstone and The Shawshank Redemption. Ive been wanting to see both, in fact I think I'm off to watch Tombstone right now...

Rock on! That flick kicks ass. Don't really like the DVD versions I've seen because the cover sucks compared to the VHS. I've got two copies on VHS now but I'm really keen on checking out a decent DVD release.

The one I got is pretty barebones...just a trailer for Special Features. Agreed that the VHS cover is much better, but you've got to admit that Denis Hopper looks pretty badass on the DVD.

Couldnt find a pic online of the VHS, but I have seen it before. It definatly looks better, all the characters in Breakfast Club pose:D

Yeh its one of my all time favorite covers. Gonna have to find a poster of it. It is a pretty cool pic of Mr Hopper but it would suit being on the back rather than the front shot. I guess they figured it'd sell more if the plugged the Dennis Hopper angle.

Miss Olivia 05-19-2006 10:28 PM

I just bought Girlfriend from Hell online....it was one of my favorite movies when I was a teenager and I haven't seen in since I was about fifteen. Hopefully it's still as funny as I remember, but even if it's not, the nostalgia factor makes it a worthwhile purchase....

cheebacheeba 05-19-2006 10:38 PM

XXX2
The exorsism of emily rose
The 40-yr old virgin
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Transporter 2
SAW2

I've only seen Saw2 before out of the lot...Blockbuster had a sale on "new" ex rentals", so I thought I'd try the rest out...they're that cheap and that new in condition that if I don't like 'em, they can be giveaways/gifts.

Dante'sInferno 05-19-2006 11:28 PM

Kung Fu Hustle.

@Cheebacheeba The 40-yr old virgin is pretty funny.:)

Nyarlathotep 05-20-2006 02:25 AM

An HDC forums official bumb

This is a great thread for posting new shit that you've gotten. We pretty much stick with movies and some music, although I will post the occasional occult goodie that I acquire.

Warning: Don't hijack this thread!!! Zwoti will ninj at you all the way from England, and it will hurt. Keep posts to interesting goodies...

I got a movie from Sadistro called "Deranged" not to long ago, and I'm still eagerly awaiting "Suspiria" and "Deep Red."

I haven't bought any occult goodies in a while.

The_Return 05-20-2006 11:09 AM

Im proud of myself...I went to Blockbuster, I looked through the used bin, and as usual there was nothing worth buying. Usually that wouldnt stop me and I'd grab something anyway, based on the philosphy "It's cheap, how could I go wrong?". But no, I resisted and didnt buy anything.

Instead, I rented 3 movies for the price it would have cost to buy 1:

- Vertigo
- Rear Window
- To Catch a Theif

I havent seen very many Hitchcock movies, and I want to fix that.

The first two are hands down the two greatest Hitchcock movies ever. Both are, quite simply, amazing.

(I have a giant Vertigo poster and a t-shirt :) )

I went to a garage sale today and got three VHS tapes, each for a buck.

-Taxi Driver
-Treasure of the Sierra Madre
-Unforgiven
