it's tied 4-4

Damn, this is a toughie. If it was B2tF part 2, I'd be more inclined to give it my vote, but I'll go with Good, the Bad & the Ugly.

GBU wins a damn close match, next one in a second

Round 2: Match 7
Saving Private Ryan http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg VS Platoon http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg zomg, war movie vs. war movie! |
Platoon .
|
I'll have to go with SPR here. Is Full Metal Jacket in this tourney? Or Apocalypse Now? Those would probably have to be my 2 favorite war films.
|
There's an Asian war movie called "Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo" or "Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War" which is probably my favorite war movie within 10 years and certainly in the top 4 war movies of mine. If only it could have made it into the tourney (even I forgot about it heh).

Saving private Ryan

we're into round 2, so if you haven't seen it, it isn't in the tournament

Platoon.
Saving Private Ryan had one or two cool war scenes (like the one on the beach), the rest was basically a drama. It tried to touch the emotional content, but Spielberg concentrated more on war, and less on emotions. (Except the one really unnerving scene where the German soldier keeps saying "Shhh" as he drives the knife deeper into the Allied soldier...) But Platoon...the Stone touch, the raw, edgy gritty approach to the NAM, Willem Dafoe(Elias) and Tom Berenger(Barnes)'s brilliance, excellent pace and awesome cinematography, the visuals...once they etch into your memory, you can never forget the experience...ever. |
