"Stitches" 7/10 A clown returns from the grave, summoned by clown worshiping clowns, to revenge his death caused by a bunch of children. Yea... it's crazy. Had its funny moments and some imaginative kills. The death by umbrella being almost art. :D Quote:

Misleading title, although Washington is brilliant in his portrayal of a guilt-stricken alcoholic pilot. I thought the film was at least 30 minutes too long and contained sequences which were unnecessary for the premise. * * * http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...BL._SY300_.jpg Despite what anyone says, I am a huge fan of the video-game series and an ardent lover of the original film. Needless to say, I simply loved this sequel! Can't get enough of this surreal, nightmarish vision of the known world and the unknown ones of Silent Hill. I really, really hope they turn this into a good franchise (there are plenty of hints dropped at the end about where the story might go). At least it's got a decent journey ahead of it, unlike the Resident Evil franchise which has nose-dived to nowhere. BTW, Pyramid Head rules! I am definitely getting the BD. * * * ½ |
I last saw Warm Bodies the day before my birthday. I had been reading the book as well and like always movies normally don't follow the book very well. But I've leaned to just sit back and enjoy the movies. I did like it, it was funny, cute, romantic, and not to mention full of zombies. Also a great mention of Lucio Fulci.

Loved it. Highly recommend it. Loved the story, loved the acting. Of course DeNiro was brilliant, as was Bradley Cooper. |

MAMA (2008) short
Just under 2 minutes and it was really well made, really creepy times, the Mama did look creepy, Good effect for really fast short ending was good, Mama (2013) Know this was going to be PG 13, i was afraid this would be this year The Women in Black PG 13 bore-fest, However this as put my faith back into PG 13 Movies. As I found this more enjoyable then The Women in black and sinister put together and this movie but PA series to shame, I thought this had some reallly good Jumpy scare in this movie I did Jump really early in the movie, this dose have some really good intense though tout the movie. The movie flowed really well and it never once got boring at all and no scenes drag longer then should, This movie did have some flaws here and there but they don't to much impact on the movie, I also did like effect of the of MAMA as you get a little to often, she dose not seem as scary as the movie goes. I did find the MAMA bit more creepy in the short, she kinda of Ju-on-the Grudge Ghost and I wasn't really to keen on Soppy ending was not need at all, that part really left the movie down, While i felt really sad and I some people will find that very tearing. For A PG 13 movie I thought was really good AS i did not expect to Jump at all in this movie and seen plenty of horror movies, (If was higher rated, i would have gave it lower score) 7 out of 10 |

"The possesion" 7-8/10 Well made horror story, but i would've prefered to see less of the dad and far more of the possesed daughter. And what's with the overly loud sound/music effects? More annoying than jumpy. Had to turn the volume down every time something remotely scary happened. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps7c545aad.jpg "Squirm" 6/10 Definitely the worst edited movie i've ever seen. Doesn't take away it's quite entertaining tho, full of nasty creeps. Could easilly have been just as scary with only the Roger Grimes character roaming around. some of the scenes with him all wormy was actually quite creepy. Quote:

A completely different experience than the original. It takes close to 40 minutes to kick-start this one and it's atmosphere, and what follows is a hurried, patchy effort to recreate the mood and pacing of the first film. The scenes which added to the horror in the original have been redone again in this one, but they don't induce any horror/terror in the least bit. I glanced at the clock quite a few number of times, which usually means I was waiting for it to be over. Quite a shame really, when a needless, unnecessary sequel is made to cash in on the success of the original. Avoid. (you too, Chronogrl) * ½ |

Whipped out THE GOONIES! I was having withdrawls!
HEY YOU GUUUYYYS !!!! Watched some DROP DEAD FRED, the other day with my 5 year old. I think she liked it, as much as I did, when I was a young one. |
It's been 8 days since I posted, so I have a decent batch.
(Ugh, apparently there's a 5-image limit, and I've already been dinged for back-to-back posts, so I guess I'll post every half hour. Mmmkay.) http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...6L._AA160_.jpg Bone Sickness (2004) This movie is both pure love and pure hate. Wow, what an unfathomably awful movie is so many ways. Terrible, incoherent plot, unthinkably bad acting, and some of the most annoying sound design my man-cave has ever been subjected to. I understand that the budget was miniscule, but dude, please, can you play more than that one low note on your keyboard?? (Oh sweet... Halfway through the movie, now he's stuck on three notes!) And why, oh why, must we see a full minute of this green-lit graveyard shot, literally, between every single scene? Why don't the army men have helmets? Why do the S.W.A.T. guys wear ninja masks? And is the leader of the zombies really some kind of blackened-faced devil man? On the flip side, this movie is jam-packed with remarkably well done, non-stop, start-to-finish (save the green-lit graveyard shots) splatter effects -- disgusting intestinal gore, grimy worm-eating, blood-defacation and worm vomit, ribcage-exposure and faces being pried into bloody halves. Amazingly well done, and according to IMDB, all on a $3000 budget. I have no idea how that's even possible. Plus, it had actual, live giant scorpions. Unfortunately, the bad outweighed the good by a metric ton, and I can't imagine ever sitting through this movie again. 5/10. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...3L._AA160_.jpg Dream House (2011) Not very scary, thrilling or compelling, but watchable. 5/10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...8L._AA160_.jpg Black Swan (2010) Amazing. Incredible. Beautiful. I cringed at the body horror, and delighted in the Shakespearean tragedy. I will surely watch this again. And again. 9/10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...GL._AA160_.jpg Stephen King's Bag of Bones (2011) This is one Stephen King adaptation that I have not read, and I've heard that the miniseries didn't do the book justice. However, some of the primary elements of the story are clearly rehashed from his own anthology, thus, sadly, turning his past innovations into cliches. 5/10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...nL._AA160_.jpg The Thing (2011) I wish I would have known this was a prequel to Carpenter's classic -- rather than a true remake -- while I was watching it. Most of it actually did follow the same story as the original, so calling it a prequel is a bit odd. However, it kept my attention, and seeing how the ending led into the beginning of the original was rewarding. Too much CG though, and doesn't have the magic of the original. Plus, with no Kurt Russell one would hope for a worthy replacement, but no. 6/10 |
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...qL._AA160_.jpg
Autopsy (2008) Had a definite B-movie feel, bad acting and all. However, plenty of excellent splatter, creepy sets, and surreal moments made it well worth watching. 6/10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...ZL._AA160_.jpg Blind Beast (1969) My expectations were in the wrong place going into this one. Having heard about this movie from the HDC "Most goriffic, disturbing..." list, I was expecting something different. As it turns out, this is a fairly smart drama about the relationship of captive and captor, and the captor's control issues with his mother. It almost had a theatrical play feel to it, with 90% of the movie being dialog, and most of the movie occuring in a single, two-room location. The room with the giant sculpted art was unique and surreal. Pretty decent watch, however, I had trouble believing that the captive would make such an abrupt, diametric change in her feelings toward her captor. The finale did have measurable shock value from a conceptual standpoint, even if it lacked reward on-screen. 6/10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...DL._AA160_.jpg Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door (2007) As horrifying as this movie is, it follows more of a drama format than horror, which I believe made it even more stomach-churning. Call it Stand By Me, but with torture. Not the best child acting I've ever seen, but good enough not to distract from a well-told, mesmerizing-as-a-body-bag-on-the-side-of-the-road story. I spent much of the movie feeling queasy, and being based on a true story, it's harder to tell oneself, "It's only a movie." 7/10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...KL._AA160_.jpg The Devil's Rock (2011) I wanted to like it. It was recommended on this forum, and had a few good reviews on IMDB. However, for me, it was so unbearably boring, I literally could not keep my eyes open. I tried on three separate occasions to finish it, and was finally, painfully successful. The problem for me was that the two main characters are so incredibly wooden, and the majority of the screen time is the two of them mumbling (literally) to each other about how scary and evil "she," in the other room, is -- she, being a demon who has taken the form of the main character's girlfriend. The demon woman had no scary makeup to make her seem possessed, and the scariest thing she did was pull incessantly on the chain she was shackled to the wall with. On a couple occasions, she actually did take on the form of a she-devil, which would be cool if it wasn't merely red shoe polish and a devil horns scalp hat. They could have at least shown her entire body, given that I believe she was topless, but I guess that would have cost too much in shoe polish. 5/10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...5L._AA160_.jpg This Means War (2012) Chick flick with enough action to keep boyfriends/husbands interested. Not bad. 6/10. |
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...xL._AA160_.jpg
Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) Surprisingly entertaining self-parody, although a bit too cartoony for my taste. 6/10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...3L._AA160_.jpg Videodrome (1983) Probably about my 4th viewing, and of course, brilliant. This movie is different to me each time I see it. The first time, I was too young, and it probably confused me as much as it scared me. The next couple times were amazing for its innovation and left-field-edness. This time was almost equally great, and given the rise in popularity of torture porn, and how my own horror tastes have evolved over time, the ironic incrimination of the viewer was even more poignant. However, I admit, I did wonder if a time will come when VHS tapes are so distant a memory that they no longer can serve as the movie's core motif. I suspect that this one will be remade sometime soon. 8/10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...VL._AA160_.jpg Dagon I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I believe Lovecraft's vision and intent was preserved, and some of the scenes were chilling. Very creative blend of monsters and ritualism, but what else would you expect from Lovecraft? 8/10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...gL._AA160_.jpg Bridesmaids (2011) A little bit depressing, actually. Not bad though. I laughed out loud a couple times, and I like the two main actresses. Full of chick flick cliches though. 6/10 Okay then, that will do it for now. |
Death Machine
I have been in the mood lately to watch some old movies and see where it takes me in my mind. Get my creative juices flowing and hope that the movie itself is good.
Death Machine was from 1994 if you havent seen it yet. It was actually pretty good. Brad Dourif was interesting, tho he usually is in his roles. Parts of it came across like it was a comedy-horror but all in all, enjoyed. I am sure I will watch it again eventually. If you have not yet seen it, take the time to. It is free on youtube in full length. |

Fabulous. Simply fabulous. A romance set in the period of the most amazing sci-fi concept you will ever get to see. Whoever thought of this ought to be given a separate award. Also, the cinematography backing this concept is completely stunning and spell-binding, specially the shots where the two mountain peaks come close, and one where our hero falls from one ocean to another. If only the film & story could do justice to this brilliant concept, we had ourselves another Eternal Sunshine. The two leads are great, but there's not much chemistry between them. To their credit, however, they give it their best shot. Kirsten Dunst is bright, Jim Sturgess is cheery and chirpy. The supporting cast do their job. There are flaws in the narrative, and minor flaws in the execution of the concept of the film, but those can be forgiven, for this is a true visual spectacle. Each conceptual frame of the film adds to the superb visual flavor and ambience that the film puts out though, so at times you are not bothered by what's going on in the story (and you are forgiven by that). The ending is abrupt, leaving plenty of questions unanswered (maybe a sequel will address this, but I doubt there will be one), but the parting shot of this film will make your jaw drop. Go watch this one just for those amazing effects and some out-of-the-world cinematography (literally!). You can thank me later. Recommended to all fans of sci-fi. Special note to those suffering from vertigo or similar ailments - watch this film at your own risk. * * * ½ |

An epic saga, transcending ages, generations, time, yet all inter-connected with each over as acts over the span of six similarly-crossed stories affect the outcomes of each other. A true stunning spectacle. You have to believe the sheer magnitude of this canvas once you behold it, and are left in awe. Recommended to those who truly believe in fantasies across generations (ala The Fountain), and who have 3 hours to spend on this grandeur. * * * * |

_V_, both of those last two recommendations sound really intriguing.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...fL._AA160_.jpg Martyrs (2008) I was gut-punched by this movie for the first time a couple months ago. Ever since then, it's been begging for a second viewing. With so many other movies that I haven't seen, it's tough to re-watch a movie so soon. I had to though. I had to know if this movie was really that good, or if it just happened to affect me in exactly the right way on that particular day. Verdict: It really is that good. At least, for me it is. Even knowing ahead of time of the curveballs about to be thrown, I was mouth-agape for the entire duration. With so much variety, so much intensity, and all executed with skill and, dare I say, finesse, this movie has a little bit of something for everybody, while also being almost too much for anybody. Even the pacing is brilliant -- starting slow, shifting quickly to lightning speed, then slowing down again for the final act, while actually ramping up the emotional intensity to near-unbearable levels. And, similar to Cannibal Holocaust's use of real war atrocity footage intermixed with fictional violence, the exploitative use of real-death photographs of "martyrs" ensures the viewer is off-kilter prior to entering the final, sickening chapter. Speaking of that final chapter... Being my second viewing, I was properly bracing myself for it for the entire lead-up, which in some ways, actually made the movie scarier the second time. Once the torture started, I kept telling myself, "Okay, there's 20 minutes more of this." The armrest of my couch may still be indented with the place my white knuckles clenched it. I know some might complain that the movie is disjointed or lacks coherence or consistency, or perhaps is confused about what "type" of horror movie it is, but I truly believe it is exactly what it is intended to be. And that makes for a painfully wild ride. Thumbs way up. 9/10. |
American Psycho
still OK, not as good as it once was when I could actually feel watching movies. Don't know if I had a stroke or what. Maybe It's what kids do to you. |
The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
As I saw Spider-man 3 not that long ago, that was still fresh in my mind, I still found this movie to early for a -Re-boot of the series. I didn't really like how this movie flowed, I think they could have done better Job of him discovering is powers, Instead of over the top Train scenes. I don't know if was meant to funny or not but I found that way to Silly and I didn't the fact that most of time, I didn't like the fact in had the mask off most of time and I didn't like how he got used to his powers so fast, I felt that the movie moved to fast, I didn't really care of Parker in this movie In the other series, I felt that Connect to Parker and felt that was lot more Developed and i found more Like-able then this one. The action scenes were good and fun watching but I found this movie focused way too much on Action instead of everything else. I didn't like the ending at all, it found really bland. I got some good thinks to say about this is that the acting this movie was really good from the whole cast and effect were really good in this movie as well. 6/10 The Avengers (2012) This movie was lot of fun to watch, I never seen the Captain America or Thor movies before. So there so-what knew to me. I liked the fact we had some time with each different superheros before come together. I really liked how the movie flowed , it not no-stop action all way thought. There were calmer scenes in this movie that i found interesting and they didn't drag on to long to make boring but action sequencing was outstanding. First time I have actually liked new Hulk (I was HUGE Huge fan of Old Hulk, i Have never given this Hulk a chance) Not fan Thor thought, I can't seem to be warn, I may need to see his movie next. see more his back story, same for Captain America. Those actions were edge of your seat stuff and lots of stuff going on at the same time. I hoping for better ending then this movie got, they all go on there separate way (For the own sequels lol) I looking forward to sequel, I wonder if they add other Superheros in the mix 8/10 |
"Men In Black III" (2012)
-Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith, Josh Brolin Plot: Even though agents J and K have been protecting the Earth from alien scum for many years, J still does not know much about his gruff partner. However, J soon gets an unexpected chance to find out what makes K tick when an alien criminal called Boris the Animal escapes, goes back to 1969, and kills K. With the fate of the planet at stake, J goes back in time and teams up with K's younger self to put things right. Phantom's Review: Fun, entertaing sequel. Better than Part 2, but number one is still the best. The best part of the film is watching Josh Brolin do an amazing job as the young Agent K. You could really believe he would eventually turn into Tommy Lee Jones. I really enjoyed this film. |

Hard-hitting and brutal. Both lead actors perform excellently but kudos to Naomi Watts for pulling off an extremely difficult role (probably THE role of her career so far). Some superb effects add to the grim, dark and tense atmosphere of the film, which fills you with immense foreboding, even though the beginning is a bit slow. Highly recommended, even to the die-hard horror fans. * * * * |

man on a Ledge (2012)
I was looking forward to see this movie since i saw the trailers and now that I have seen. I thought it even better then it thought t be. This movie had me on edge of seat thought the movie, I had no idea what going to happen next. There was some very good tense scenes in this movie that really got me of seat and shouting at the TV. There were some really good twist and turns in this movie that I didn't see coming at all. I Thought the acting was really good from the whole cast and Extras too. I expected a good movie but ended up seeing a great movie 8/10 Spider-Man (2002) - I gave this another re-watch after seeing new re-boot. Well this movie didn't have much action the latest one and a lot more of story just scenes of fighting and flying. There were A lot of slow scenes in this movie, with some really good action sequences I do like some of story that taken away from this movie that wasn't in the re-boot. I didn't find this movie as dark as new one, Which I still do prefer Maguire as man. I felt like we connected a lot more in this story and cared about him (I can't say the same thing new spider-man) The Actions scenes in this movie was really good and very decent not over the top and don't drag for too long. The acting was really good from the whole cast. 7 out 10 really good movie |

Antiviral (2012)
http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps60542534.jpg A mildly promising debut from Cronenberg's son. It's got an interesting concept which is about a near future when celebrity obsession goes into nut-phase as the clinics sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to their obsessed fans. Somewhat a Biological communion but for a price. The actor on the lead (Banshee from X-Men: First Class!) delivered quite a dedicated performance. But sadly, the film suffered for its slow pace & at times it was even bit hard to follow. Moreover, it was kinda Cronenbergian bleak but not as much darker in tone or provides anything sinister in nature that we used get in David Cronenber's all those classic body-horror masterpieces. Still I'll look forward to see any future work from Cronenberg Jr. For at least coming up with an idea like this, I hope he'll able to make better films in coming days. >>: B- Spiders (2013) http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p...psc26930e2.jpg Cheesy but probably for being a sucker of Giant Spider flicks, I do kinda liked it. 9/10 FIRST OFF LET ME SAY....I know most will probably disagree. I say if you take Kevin Smith and Wes Craven and make them make a movie together and throw in some rocky horror picture show with a touch of Dr. Seuss you have this movie. It's a comedy horror with really no horror in it besides the demons. I really enjoyed watching this film. I had clerks (original with dante and randel working in a gas station) written all over it. It's witty arrogant stupid humor. The film is a B movie and you can really tell by the make up but I just found it good fun.....idk.....you decide. I really curious to hear other peoples feed on this. http://a1.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Music/...200x200-75.jpg 7/10 Maybe it's the hype from the hdc or idk. I really liked it but i think they could off added more to the scare scenes. The suspense was great and the edge of your chair but the climax to it was ehhhh average.... I think from the build up I was expecting a lot more. good film and def a recommend. |

Kill, Baby, Kill! (1966) Honestly, I didn't pay that much attention to the plot once I realized it was one that's been rehashed multiple times by the J-horror genre, but the visuals, mood, and creepy factor created by Bava is as excellent as one would expect. 6/10, although probably higher for those into giallo. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...vL._AA160_.jpg Doghouse (2009) As a British zombie horror comedy, inevitably it must be compared to Shaun of the Dead. From a production level, it ranks right up there. However, the theme, despite being fairly unique -- all the women in a town have turned into zombies and attack a group of men who have just undergone relationship problems -- becomes a bit tired by the end of the movie. Nearly all the humor is of a gender-stereotype nature, and it's just not enough to carry a full-length feature. Also, SotD wins big time in the character department. Enjoyable though, and plenty of disgusting violence to keep the fun going. 6/10 |
Frontier(s) 2007
Why the (s)? I don't know. What I do know is that it was pretty much a waste of my time. It didn't tread any new ground but had "aren't I a shocking film?" written all over it. That sense of desperation - like the kid in school who eats his own snot just to get a response out of people - is what puts me off a lot of modern horror films. SAW has a lot to answer for, I suppose. |
