The cast, the characters, the locations, the action, the story,... Solid movie. I love those late eighties, early nineties action/horror flicks. Most of them have a perfect amount of action, blood, profanity and nudity. |
I always liked the urban setting of Predator 2 and the new Predator weapons and tech, and the Predator in it is my favorite on of the series. Plus it's got so many great setpieces like the subway and slaughterhouse.
On the Puppet Master series, I've seen them up to Retro. I liked all of the first five but I found Curse and Retro terrible. Are the ones after any better?

I've heard pretty much universally negative things about it.
I may have mentioned it before a few pages back, but another anthology film I remembered was Body Bags. I haven't seen it in years but remember liking The Gas Station segment a lot in it. Really need to see it again, Scream Factory recently released it on Blu-ray and I've been meaning to buy it.
I also remembered the Ringu/Ring films. I haven't seen any of them, though I've been curious about them.

I'll give the Ring/Ringu films a look at some point, I've been curious about them.
I remembered The Howling films. I've never seen the original but have seen the third, fourth, fifth and seventh films. 3 was pretty bad but amusing in an MST3K way, 5 wasn't too bad and I remember 4 and 7 being horrible, especially 7.
There's also The Fly films, consisting of the original three as well as the 80s remake and it's sequel. I definitely prefer the remake and find it's sequel underrated as well, both have great creature designs and effects.
This one might be a stretch, but another series I remembered is The Mummy (the 90s version). The first one is pretty much an Action/Horror hybrid with more of an emphasis on the former but quite a bit of the latter is still present. The two sequels are pretty much all-out Action with very little of the Horror aspect remaining.
I definitely liked the original Mummy the best, still a movie I always really enjoy. The two sequels were enjoyable in their own way but the original was the strongest. |
Another I remembered is Warlock. I've seen the first two and both were good, never saw the third but the absence of Julian Sands in the title role deterred me.

I remember liking the first Warlock more, but the second was pretty good from my memory. The Warlock in the second one I remember is much more destructive.

It's been so many years since I last watched them, definitely a series due for a re-visit.

Very surprised not to see the Omen's Series on here. Man was that scary watching when I was growing up.
The Omen was my favorite on that. As far as the other movie series you talked about. Friday The 13th - the first one Halloween - the first one A Nightmare On Elm Street - the third one Saw - the first one Scream - the first one The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - the first one Alien - the second one Predator - the first one Phantasm - the second one Evil Dead - Army of Darkness is by far the best in the series. Hellraiser - the first one Child's Play - the first one Final Destination - honestly liked them all about the same |
I forgot about The Omen before, add it if you'd like. I have yet to see any of them, but I will eventually, I've been meaning to give them a look.

It's a dam good series am sure you will enjoy. |
I'll definitely seek them out eventually, I've been wanting to see them as is.
Did I mention the Amityville movies before? Not sure if I did. I've seen the original, remake and It's About Time, not the rest though I remember seeing bits of the second film and the Dollhouse one.
I don't think I mentioned the Ginger Snaps movies before. I've only seen the first and liked it a lot from my memory.
I don't remember if I mentioned Sleepaway Camp before. I've seen the first three, I remember the first being so-so and wasn't big on 2 and 3. But I'll give the series another go, someday.

The Amityville series seems like it's of vastly varying quality over the course of the films. One day I'll give them all a fair shake, as I do with everything.
I remembered From Dusk Till Dawn. Only seen the original, which is still an awesome movie. Never seen the sequels, which seem to not be very well-received.
Friday The 13th: The final chapter
Halloween: the original but 3 gets an honorable mention A Nightmare On Elm Street: the original Saw: the original Scream: this is tough so im just going to say I like the first two equally. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: original Alien: Aliens Predator: the first one, but 2 is severely underrated. Phantasm 2 Evil Dead: 2 Hellraiser: the original but hellbound is a very close second. Child's Play 2 Final Destination (original) Amityville 2 the possession Demons: I love both movies equally. The three mothers trilogy: Suspiria |
I agree that Predator 2 is severely underrated. I was surprised to see the hate for it when I first used the internet.
Another series I remembered (and probably quite obscure) is Mirror, Mirror. I only recall seeing the second film, Raven Dance, which aired quite a lot on Showtime back in the mid-90s. Seems like a series not many people are even aware of let alone have seen.
I also remembered The Stepfather films, only seen the third and parts of the first one. Not really seen enough to form an opinion.
I don't know how many here know of them, but I remembered the Xtro trilogy. Only seen the first one which was quite possibly the weirdest movie ever. Never saw the sequels which are completely unrelated despite having the same director.
Xtro - OMG; haven't seen that since high school (also only saw the first one)
I've only seen the original, too. Such a bizarre film, even the director has admitted he doesn't know what to make of it.
Oh, and welcome to the board, Totem :) What's your favorite film of each of the listed series in the original post?

Friday The 13th: Part VI - Jason Lives [1986], but more for personal reasons. Halloween: Definitely the first one. A Nightmare On Elm Street: First one - even though Heather Langenkamp & Ronee Blakley spend the entire film competing for biggest over-actor. Saw: First one. Scream: Tie between first & second and that's a rare thing. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The original. I was pretty young, so the defiling I look back fondly on was massive. Alien: First one hands down - even though I love Aliens [1986] Predator: Rodriguez's Predators [2010] took the lead from the original - but not by much. Phantasm: First one - love the graveyard love-making scene. Evil Dead: First one. Also pretty young when I first saw. Hellraiser: First one. The Omen: First one. This series best represents what you get when you drain the life out of a great idea. I mean, what was Omen IV even trying to do? Final Destination: Third one - like Jason Lives - more for personal rather than cinematic reasons. Thanks again for the welcome. ::cool:: |
Sure thing, enjoy your stay here :)

Friday The 13th - VI - Jason Lives.
Halloween - The original A Nightmare On Elm Street - The original obviously, but loved the last one too by Wes. Saw - Second I think, but first is a classic. Scream - Second one. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - The original Alien - Aliens Predator - First one, although Rodriguez did a good job with Predators imo. Phantasm - Never heard of them. Evil Dead - The second one. Hellraiser - Have yet to watch these (at least the first one). Child's Play - The original. Final Destination - First one. |
Phantasm's an amazing series, see them all when you can.

I'm still behind on that series. I've only seen bits of the fourth. |
