Carl as a character has so much room for development and story. I can see him being a deciding factor of some sort towards the final season , which the writers have said could be past 10+ seasons. Look at it this way, the comics are being made constantly with new stories, and the TV show has not covered even 1/4 of the comics material. Back on topic, I believe Carl is just becoming a product of his surrounding. Killing is everywhere, and as his father being his main influence and Carl knowing who he has killed, I am not surprised he shot the young man in the woods. Since his mom's passing I feel like he feels more compelled to act "grown up" . Although killing a man who is surrendering is a heck of a way to show it .

***SPOILERS***

I thought it was an excellent opening for season four. Obviously a bit of time has gone by and the little touches that showed how relationships have progressed were well done, and we're getting hints of how life in the compound is.

The zombie attack in the store was great, with plenty of gooey gore effects, but one thing kept me wondering:

Why didn't any of those zombies fall through the roof before the party got there?

Anyway- this season looks great!

hammerfan 10-14-2013 03:47 AM

I agree, NE, I think this is going to be a good season! And, watching Talking Dead after with the EP, he says they're going to encounter more dangers every episode.

ChronoGrl 10-15-2013 10:47 AM

I've decided to join The Walking Dead Tribe this season... Good opener - Agree with everything that NE said.

***SPOILERS***

Ugh - the zombies falling through the roof really made my skin crawl; well done, creepy and intense.

***

I actually listened to an old interview that Steven Yeun (Glenn) did at the beginning of the year on my favorite podcast, The Indoor Kids... He's really funny, dorky, and smart; a real blast to listen to that gave me a new-found respect for Glenn as a character. Glenn and Daryl are definitely my two favorite characters.

neverending 10-20-2013 09:15 PM

Holy shit- I think the show has really hit its stride this season. They've found the perfect mix of drama and action, IMO.

SPOILERS

There were some really emotional moments in this episode. The father's good-bye to his daughters, and especially Michone's moment with the baby. This is storytelling at its best. That one moment told us more about her character than everything else we've seen.

Also, Rick's moment where he burns his shirt was so symbolic...

hammerfan 10-21-2013 04:56 AM

I agree, NE, I'm really enjoying this season, so far.

SPOILERS:
I agree with your assessment of the scene with Michonne. Makes me think she had a baby that died in the beginning of the zombie apocalypse.

Sicknero 10-26-2013 05:35 AM

Finally Series 4 finds its way to Slovenian cable.

But, meh. Not impressed thus far.

neverending 11-10-2013 09:07 PM

Holy shnockers! We got zombies!

Sicknero 11-11-2013 12:31 AM

Interview here with George Romero talking about zombies, horror and why he turned down an offer to work on a couple of episodes of TWD.

BigIssue.com - Romero interview

neverending 11-11-2013 04:41 AM

Yah, I've read that article. Everything Romero doesn't like about the show is what makes it great. It's not a Romero style film. We get that. Thank goodness people are willing to expand on the genre and do different things, because Romero's been making the same awful movies for the past few decades.

Last night's episode was great!!!

DrFrankensteinsGirl 11-11-2013 08:25 AM

Ok so Hershel is getting close to surpassing Rick to be my favorite character after last nights episode.

Spoilers in white

Ok so I wasn't really happy about Carol getting kicked out last week but now that I think about it more I understand why she did it but just because her intentions were honorable doesn't take away that she straight up murdered 2 people. I wasn't quite sure if Rick was going to be upfront with the group about what happened and I'm glad that he told the truth because if he hadn't I'm sure that would have come around to bite him in the ass down the road.

Also, heck yes Rick/Carl spraying down zombies was awesome as was Maggie's storming into the sick ward. But the best part of this episode has to be the Governor, I was not expecting that at the end and I love that this show had everyone asking where the Gov went after season 3 and then in season 4 tries it's best to make you forget about him while shoving zombies and sickness at us and then when you least expect it, look who is just chillin outside the prison like a fox scoping out a hen house lol.

What do you guys think Tyresse is going to do when he finds out it was Carol, do you guys think he will want to hunt her down and kill her or do you think he will be satisfied with Rick's justice?

I can't wait for next week, this season is turning out to be pretty damn good so far.

neverending 11-11-2013 05:53 PM

I don't think he'll go after Carol because he's too worried about what's her name. A bigger question for me is will Daryl go after her?

The Villain 11-11-2013 07:13 PM

Loved the last episode. The simultaneous battle in the prison and the yard was awesome and i loved watching Rick and Carl mow down the zombies.

Also...

THE GOVERNOR!!!!!

DrFrankensteinsGirl 11-17-2013 06:25 PM

Spoilers in white

....Um the fuck was that...I was so excited for the Governor's return and now I'm kinda bummed out that they decided to redeem the Governor. I loved watching his decent into madness last season and I was excited to see a season with the Governor unleashed. I was wanting to see if they could make a character that is more of a monster than the actual monsters. It would have shown that man can be more evil than flesh eating zombies. The kids in this show piss me off so bad, the little girl at the prison is an idiot and the Governor's Penny 2.0 is just as bad. Also it's like over a year into the zombie apocalypse and you still haven't figured out that to kill a walker you have to shot it in the head. I don't know what I'm gonna do if the Governor goes to the prison group looking for shelter for him and his new groupies. This isn't Merle, Merle didn't slaughter 20 people for no reason, nor did he assault Maggie, nor did he cause Andrea's death and Milton's. This dude is a psycho and he needs to stay that way.

neverending 11-17-2013 09:30 PM

Have a little patience, Frankie's girl.

Elvis_Christ 11-18-2013 05:30 AM

Yes I think he will show his true colours soon enough.

I kinda hope they leave the prison soon :(

Me too! And we have to wait until FEBRUARY!

Well, I'll see Hershel and Carl at Monster Mania in March.

Elvis_Christ 12-03-2013 05:47 PM

It was the shake up the season needed I thought. Great episode. I really hate how they split the season up into two parts.

bblgmpink 12-03-2013 06:41 PM

best episode! i'm pretty sure that I nearly cried.

Anthropophagus 12-05-2013 08:00 AM

So far so good this season. In fact i have enjoyed this first half of season four better than the whole of seasons two and three.

Do any of you watch The Talking Dead after the show? I enjoy the interviews with the actors, and have been surprised how many are British. They do their American accents very well!

I've caught it a couple of times. Usually I can't stay awake! I know! I thought David Morrissey really was from Georgia. He does the accent very well. Andrew Lincoln, too.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I had no idea Morrissey was British until I first saw him on Talking Dead. I was really surprised hearing Lauren Cohan talk for the first time too, because she sounded kind of half British half American. Then I read she was born in Philadelphia and lived in New Jersey as a child, but moved to the UK.

Though I couldn't able to follow the series since the mid of season 2 but last night luckily caught this mid-season last episode on a local Fox movie channel and thought it was amazing. Moreover, lately working on a full TWD tribute video; and the whole process of making the video with plenty of awesome footage tremendously spoiled some of the major twists, turns & incidents for me ::embarrassment:: but I really love the way the series has evolving with the characters and moving forwards. I've first 2 seasons on my collection & surely looking forward to buy all the rest in coming days.

neverending 12-10-2013 08:47 AM

It's beautiful, man. I cried the whole time through. It really points out how the underlying theme of this show is loss, and how we deal with it. You have a real telent for this, Roshiq.

Just one little thing though- the deaths of the Governor and Hershell are so fresh in my mind I kind of missed seeing those in the video.

hammerfan 12-10-2013 09:19 AM

That was great, roshiq!

roshiq 12-10-2013 10:05 AM

Thanks a lot to both of you for the appreciation; really glad you liked it! :)

Agree! And the sad part is...from the very beginning of making this video I was saving Rick's moving speech ("We can all let it go...we've all done worst kind of things...we can change!"), and Governor & Hershell's epic death scenes for its very end, thinking to add them on the ending guitar solo. But frustratingly I couldn't able to properly mix Rick's speech with that classic guitar tune & I wasn't satisfied by that; as I guess there's still plenty of things I've yet to learn about editing. Though it's seemingly boring but I've found it pretty tricky & very interesting thing to play with. ::smile::

hammerfan 12-10-2013 10:21 AM

Not to nit-pick, because I really love these videos you make, but I also didn't see Dale or Andrea.

Oh, you just missed them, Hammy! Both are there...though there's just a glimpse of Dale while Daryl was about to shoot him.

Unquestionably the show got an awesome cast and specially Mr. Lincoln is becoming one of my very favorite contemporary actors but I must admit Mr. Morrissey as The Governor was so terrifyingly believable that whenever he was doing terrible things to others I was just expecting when time comes I really wanted this man to die an outstanding, horrible death! And on that regard, I was kinda "disappointed" to see him die such a way (though it was good but not what I was expecting!) in this mid season finale ::smile:: .

roshiq 12-11-2013 10:13 AM

I have to disagree. We knew all along that Michonne had to take him out, and she finally got her chance to stick that sword through his heart, just as he was about to finish off Rick. I cheered! And then when the other woman came along (can't remember her character name) it was an added bonus. She needed to do that to make up for being taken in by him so easily.

It was a totally satisfying ending to such an evil character to me. In the end, he was just a man, a very evil man, but just as vulnerable and mortal as any man is this screwed up zombie world.

I am chomping at the bit for the rest of the season. I want to see what Carol is up to, and I KNOW THAT BABY IS NOT DEAD! SHE CAN'T BE!
