Hmm my post is a little late but i got to see a midnight showing on the 29th. I was really debating as to go or not to go because i myself am highly against remakes. I let a friend whose opnions i trusted on horror films convince me to go with him. I didnt go in with high expectations and im glad becuase i would have been severly let down. I completely hated that movie but then again i really really didnt like devils rejects that much either. I didnt mind house of 1000 corpses but then again i wouldnt want to own it and the last time i saw it was when it was in theatres. The only reaction zombies halloween got out of me was a gasp when i realized that brad douriff was playing the sheriff and seeing how much he has aged. But i completely feel that i wasted 8 bucks.

WELL, ALL RIGHT. This movie is poo nuts, and Michael Myers isn't scary any more, he is just a little poo nut.

What is it with poo nuts???

Personally...
IMO, In any movie almost, if you go in looking for flaws and go in wanting to be dissapointed you will be. I think so many people hold the original to dear to their hearts, and when this one didn't do the same thing for them that the original did they automatically didn't like it.
I havent watched the entire thing but heres my take on it. For one thing: EVERYONE knows that michael myers is the killer already from the first 3 movies, so rob zombie trying to hide his identity and make him all mysterious would have been total pointless and would've looked like he was trying to just copy the first, and would have done nothing for tension. Secondly, the Film is COMPLETELY original, and I'm glad it is, Rob Zombie is Rob Zombie, and i'm glad he stuck to doing this film his way, that way we have a fresh look at this story. Thirdly: There are no movies that come out that really scare us in the same way that movies like nightmare on elm street did, or the original halloween did. Because we have been desensitized to that kinda stuff, and we are expecting more action and more gore. I hadn't seen the original before like 3 month ago, and to be honest I got a little bored in some parts, the violence was totally unrealistic, and took away from the scariness of the film IMO, I mean a girl gets her throat cut and no red line where she was cut, no blood gushing out no nothing. To really scare viewers now adays, you need a mix of some different elements, take the movie The Descent: This is one of the best horror films I have ever seen. There was bucketloads of tension, not because they hid the monsters, but because the monsters were genuinely creepy, and could strike at any moment, in very painful ways. the movie was hella violent, and grossed me out in several parts, this added to the tension big time. Another thing that you need is human drama to add to the tension. the Glamorization of smoking and drinking in the first halloween, and premarital sex was so stupid to me, and it seemed like a propaganda film, I just couldn't relate to the characters in that film, they were airheads. So just cause a movie freaked you out big time when you were 13 and you still have nightmares because of it, you shouldn't let that affect your view of a totally different film. Seriously, the only thing similar in the new halloween are some of the characters, and I'm glad it's like that. |
I just got back from watching Halloween. I was 1 of 6 people in the theatre, but it's a week day afternoon.
Halloween The acting was fine, but the characters were all one dimensional cliches. The gore was plentiful, but not original. The plot abandoned logic on several ocasions and the haunting atmosphere of the original was nowhere to be found. Rob Zombie took one of the Top 5 horror films of all time and remade it into a completely average, run of the mill, slasher film. Graphic violence, tons of swearing and plenty of nudity is usually a recipe for a great horror film in my book, but not when it's a remake of Halloween. Original - Minimal swearing, Remake- Maximum swearing Original - Minimal onscreen violence, Remake - Maximum onscreen violence Original - No nudity, Remake - Plenty of nudity Original - Haunting atmosphere, Remake - No atmosphere Original - Solid script, Remake - Illogical script Original - A, Remake C+ C+ |

In the original, you saw a little bit of P.J. Soles, and a little bit of the Judith Myers actress in the opening scene...not much else. Very sparing with the nudity, and it was not thrown in the audience's face.

A lot of message boards, by the way, are definitely frequented by studio plants posing as "horror fans like you and me"...they show up with their subtle brainwashing tactics to convince you to "give the film a chance" and "ignore/forget your feelings about the original film" and so on. This of course has been standard practice since Blair Witch, the secret message board campaign.
They're pretty good about including spelling mistakes and other "errors" that make their posts look like they're written by innocent, fallible youngsters. But like spammers, they are easy to spot because they generally have low post counts and don't spend too much time on other topics. And they show up out of nowhere, at just the right time...a week or two before the film's opening... |

poo nuts....well, it is sort of a lame curse word, more on the funny side. you can call a cat a silly little poo nut if he's being dumb. or if you spill your fruit punch on the carpet and have to soak it up with paper towels you can say "OH POO NUTS" that way you won't offend people nearby by saying something harsher.

It's also the dance sensation that's sweepin' the nation.
|
Thankfully I was able to watch the movie online (thank god I didn't pay to see it or I would have asked for my money back)...
Halloween is my all time fav horror movie... When I first found out it was going to be remade I was a bit upset because most remakes have been crap... Needless to say I wasn't surprised when I saw this movie that it wasn't as good as the first... I did like some of the back story, but that was about it... IMO RZ should have just made a pre Halloween movie... I think just telling the back story leading up to the original would have been a better movie then him trying (and IMO failing) to redo the whole movie. CC |

I haven't seen Zombie's Halloween yet, so I have to reserve judgement, but I honestly don't believe that I'll be surprised by anything when I do...I mean we ALL know his 'style', I'm pretty sure that we know exactly what to expect going in...And if what I've read in this thread so far is any indication, then yes, it IS going to be exactly what I would expect from Rob Zombie I'll still buy it |
Posted this in the "last seen movie" thread and decided to post it here as well.
Saw "Halloween" last night. Aside from a few things during the young Michael sequences, I thought it was really good. I can't believe how much members on this forum hated it. I also can't believe how badly y'all missed the point of this movie. Of course, this is the same community that voted "Shaun of the Dead" as the best horror movie since 2000, LOL. Anyway...I guess y'all wanted an exact replice of the classic we got 30 years ago. If Zombie did that then everyone would criticize him for no creaitivity/originality. This was his own take on the Myers character and I personally believe he did a pretty damn good job with it. Period. |
I don't like poo nuts michael myers
he is just a lil poo nut   ;) |
Well uh, hi folks.
Anyway, I thought this movie was great, I didn't go in expecting a Halloween film, I went in expecting a Rob Zombie film and I got what I expected, I wasn't disappointed at all, except I wanted Brad Dourif to have a bigger part, other than that I loved it. |
Nothing too major, but may be some SPOILERS ahead......
I didn't hate it, but yes, it was very disappointing. The first hour I was bored out of my mind. Putting the focus on how screwed up his family was wasn't smart in my opinion. All subtlety and mystery flew right out the window. I felt absolutely nothing for Laurie, in fact, she was so aggravating I was hoping he would just put her out of MY misery.... He was too big. In fact, one of the scenes lifted directly from the original didn't even make sense because of his size. I might have enjoyed it a bit better had it not been a remake of Halloween. Zombie made a mistake deciding to remake this film. His style thus far, which worked well in one of his films, has been anything but subtle. And because of that, he basically turned Michael into a garden variety psychopath. He seemed to up the body count, hoping to make up for the fact that he just couldn't build any suspense. A huge disappointment. But I still respect Zombie, and I think he is still a decent horror director, and has great potential. He just took on too much here, I think. |
The new Halloween....crap?
This had to be one of the worst pieces of shit that I've ever had the displeasure of watching. Who agrees?
|
I don't, I thought the film kicked some ass.
I didn't think of it as a Halloween film, because it's not, I just went in thinking "Rob Zombie's new movie" and I thought it was great, I loved the acting, the few complaints I have are (spoilers): Killing Danny Trejo, I know he had to die in that situation, but I'd rather Danny finds the bodies after Michael leaves and he's the one that reports the escape, so on from there. And Brad Dourif not having more screen time. Again, I wasn't expecting something suspenseful, I was just expecting to see Michael Myers back rockin' the shit in a new, almost entirely different movie and not getting his ass kicked by Busta Rhymes. |

You loved the "acting"? The scenes with the 30 year olds playing high school girls were painful at best. That was some of the worst acting and dialogue I've ever witnessed in a film. I was kind of embarassed for the actors in some of those scenes. I usually like Malcolm McDowell, but goddamn he just seemed completely dry, bored and uninterested during the whole film. The scenes with him counseling young mike were also painful to watch. |

To each his own...I just wanted to see who agreed with me. Anyway, what's so great about Brad Dourif? I thought he sucked horribly too. |
Well, this thread is TOTALLY original.
|
I started my own thread....With a poll!!!! Where is it? Why is it mixed in with this? Do I need to repost my poll?
|
I never would've known Danielle harris was 30 if I hadn't read it here. I actually didn't believe it and looked it up! She played a very good teenager.
|
I've been hearing bad reviews like this so far. I'm prepared for the let down, even though I'm hoping it turns out real good. I'm waiting for the DVD release.
|
I will go and see it anyway. Having said that:
1: I liked the remake of Texas ChainSaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, so probably not the best person to have an opinion on it! 2: I have finally just seen Saw and TCM: The Beginning, so with this track record, I'll tell you what I think about it in 2-3 years time. |
How bad was the Halloween remake?
How bad did you think it was?
|
You do know the first was merged with another topic for a reason, right? Because there's already a fucking a topic about the movie.
|
I'm rather liked it anyway.

Vote, please. |
So the movie is so bad, that there should be three or four whole threads devoted to it? Wow.....;)
I vote didn't care for it, and it was a huge disappointment, but it could've been worse.....oh wait, that's not option....so I guess I can't vote. :D |
It's not nearly as bad as this thread
