If you're tryign to make a DVD from an avi file you'll need a converter to switch the file. You could try a free one but i recommend you look into payed ones as well. Easier and faster. When you burn the ISO file the software outputs (or whatever file it gives you) make sure you burn on 4 speed. Some DVD players will not read burnt DVDs correctly unless they are burnt with a very low speed. I believe DVD video format is mpeg 2.

AVI2DVD

This program is free and will do exactly what you want - ie convert an AVI file to DVD format. It will create an ISO image which you can then burn to a DVD blank with something like Nero.

If you don't have Nero, you could use this free program:

DVD ISO Recorder

Sorry for taking a while to reply - haven't had a chance to check back after asking the original questions.

But these things should do what you want - for free.

LOL, that avi2dvd is free if you want watermark on the final, atleast thats what it's telling me unless I downloaded the wrong program. I just got into doing this as well except backing up, my dvds. Yeah just don't get caught because it is against the law. :D Thanks for all of your help guys.

This has not happened to me - are you sure you didn't download the wrong thing?

It has been a while since I installed it - no doubt there have been updates since - but the website still says that it is freeware. Or is this the divx watermark that is put on by the divx codec (but you can disable it).

I just don't see the benefit in downloading movies illegally and burning them. Movies are not expensive, you just may have to save some money and wait a few weeks, big deal I'd rather have a DVD quality copy, plus the case and extras than a poor copy with artifacting that doesn't work on 50% of DVD players.

Just my opinion of course

What about movies that are unavailable for purchase?
