It's not always the case, but far too often, the position of "contrarian" is adopted as if it's a legitimate stance just because it's contrary. Interestingly, the two groups most guilty of believing the "anti" stance has any substance in and of itself are hipsters and the Republican Party. Go figure.

I can assure you, I'm not just being "contrary". I was either disappointed by or really disliked the movies I listed.

it is pretty fun to get you all riled up. ;)

This thread reminds me of a kid I know who-get this- actually hates mashed potatoes.(absolutely 100% true story) I personally never thought it was possible, but sure enough, no matter the toppings, the kid just doesn't like em'. It doesn't mean his opinion ceased to exist the moment he tasted his first bite of delicious creamy whipped spuds and then spit them back out, but I would dare to argue that he has no taste.

As you can probably tell, I love lists and countdowns; they're the best way to discover movies in genres you like, and discuss all the films you've seen and how you would rate them. There have been many best horror movie countdowns, some state the obvious (Psycho, The Exorcist) and some really investigate all horror films out there (countdowns on this website). After looking at dozens of lists, these films were mentioned over and over again as being excellent horror movies, but I think are too overrated.

Peeping Tom (1960)
Black Sunday (1960)
Don't Look Now (1973)
Hour Of The Wolf (1968)
Hellraiser (1987)
Jacob's Ladder (1990)
Wait Until Dark (1967)
Vertigo (1958) (I love Hitchcock, but I don't understand the appeal of this one).

The only two of these that I have seen are Vertigo and Wait Until Dark.

I really like Vertigo and do not think that it is overratted. I'm not sure that it is a horror film. More like a psychological thriller.

I first saw Wait Until Dark last month and recorded it from TCM. I enjoyed it but not as a horror film but more as a thriller. My interst was the lead actress Audrey Hepburn. As a thriller it is very good but certainly would be overrated as a horror film.

To me the worst and most overrated film was The Blair Witch Project. A group of first graders could have done better.

I was probably too rough on Wait Until Dark and Hellraiser. Vertigo was disappointing to me; I love most of Alfred Hitchcock's films, but that one just didn't work for me.

I don't share your dislike of The Blair Witch Project (I really enjoyed it), but I can understand why a lot of people didn't like it.

As for the other films, some were boring, some were pretentious, and one had a fundamental flaw in it that I found impossible to overlook.
