His impact on science fiction is undeniable. He pretty much invented the genre. So, there's a lot to thank him for. But, like a lot of sci fi writers he gets little too caught up in the novelty of the concepts he's dealing with to present interesting characters or write engagingly sometimes.

Again... I... have no idea who that is... :o

I didn't recognize the face either, then I attempted to save the image file to read the file name. That's Jules Verne.

One of the most important visionaries of all time.

Oh!

Then I agree with your take on him... Honestly, one of my issues with good science fiction is that the ideas outweigh the writing, characters, etc (I have that problem with Phillip K. Dick and Richard Matheson)... While he was brilliant, I found him overly-dense and turgid, hard to read at times.

That would depend on the translation. I always found his writing to be exciting. He wrote a vampire novel too!

A vampire novel by Jules Verne. Sounds like a fun read. Whats the name?

Carpathian Castle

The guy was brilliant as far as I'm concerned.

The world has Jules Verne in very high esteem, and it's not surprising to see him equally respected here too. A pioneer, an innovator of sorts, a visionary - and one of the foremost authors in sci-fi fiction if there ever was one.

Moving on.

What do you think of...
