Thanks for posting that article, it was an interesting read. It's so true that the symmetry Pasolini uses is so alarmingly constant that it is almost the scariest part of the entire film. If nothing else, it was his strongest tool on the path to total coldness.

Definitely. It's more than a motif, really. He kind of created a strong backbone for the film. At any rate, it's powerful.

Picked up The Seventh Seal (reissue) today on my way home from work- beautiful little package with some special features I cannot wait to discover...though it's a shame they couldn't get all of Bergman Island on there.

Ah, I didn't know that some of Bergman Island wasn't included in the Seventh Seal re-issue. That's really disappointing.

Yeah, I bought that one back when they re-issued it.
The special features are great. Some in-depth interviews with appreciators of the film and people that worked on it, and a lot of digging-into the film, which is especially great with a work like Salo.

By the way, if anyone's interested, here is an incredible article written on Salo by Ben Simington:

That's an amazing article! I didn't realize that Salo was so high-brow, I always heard it was smutty. I think I will have to see it now, at least for the Giotto references! :p

Also, I'd love to pick up the Criterion release of Joan of Arc, but I was really trying to limit myself. It hard because there are so many great releases that they have done.

My box from Barnes and Nobles arrived yesterday and I started with the Red Shoes and watch a bit this morning with breakfast. The cinematography is just amazing. I almost wish now that I picked up the Black Narcissus.

Pappy, I'm so freaking eager to hear what you think of Viridiana!

I picked up Sansho the Bailiff on my way home from work today. It's my first blind-buy of this sale.

Will do. I've never seen anything by Mizoguchi but I'm really excited to dive into his work. I've also got Ugetsu TiVOd for this month- it's playing on TCM.

Nice! I didn't know you ordered L'eclisse. That contains one of the greatest cinematic endings of all time, period.

Oh man, that's for sure.
Yeah, it's one of those movies I just stupidly hadn't picked up yet. It's been some time since I saw it last, so I'll probably post a review once I watch it.
