Things that are "successful or popular" are rarely underrated- so they're ripe targets for being considered "overrated."

By the same token, indie films and older fare don't have nearly as much exposure- so they woiuld tend to be underrated.

It makes sense to me.

I was poking fun at the folks who will like something simply because it is different and dislike something simply because i has a budget. There are more than a few lurking around here...

Well, I'll cop to that- I'll get more enjoyment out of something that's different & original over a mind-numbingly copycat cookie-cooker big budget borefest any time.

i think that ANY remake of a film is overrated when it's first released..they make up all the hype so suckers will go see it, then it turns out to be shit but because everyone liked the original and wanted to see how the new one was done it get's loadsa money...i hate that....

People who like something simply because it is different seriously irritate me.

But to NE's point, I think that most items that fall into the "overrated" category HAVE to be popular and big-budget... It's that kind of stuff that receives the most attention.
