Stage, screen and TV actor Robert DoQui , who played the gruff Sgt. Warren Reed in three "Robocop" films, died Feb. 9 in Los Angeles. DoQui also appeared in three Robert Altman films, "Nashville," "Buffalo Bill & The Indians" and "Short Cuts," for which he was part of the Golden Globe and Venice Film Fest award-winning ensemble cast. Other notable roles include the pimp King George in blaxploitation classic "Coffy," "Fortune Cookie" and miniseries "How The West Was Won" and "Centennial." Born in Stillwater, Okla., DoQui attended Langston U., was a member of singing group the Langstonaires, and served in the U.S. Air Force before heading to Hollywood. Over a 50-year career, he appeared in dozens of TV shows including "Gunsmoke," "Tarzan," "I Dream of Jeannie," "Happy Days," "The Jeffersons," "Maude" and "E.R.." With a distinctive voice, he played Pablo Robertson for animated series "Harlem Globetrotters" and "Scooby-Doo." DoQui served for ten years on the Board of Directors of the Screen Actors Guild, advocating for increased participation of women and minority groups in the media. He is survived by his life partner Mittie Lawrence; four sons; a daughter; his 96 year old mother and 10 grandchildren. Perry Lopez, hardworking character actor who played Lt. Lou Escobar in "Chinatown," died of lung cancer Feb. 14 in Beverly Hills, Calif. He then segued to TV roles in "Zorro," "The Rifleman," "Bonanza" and "Wagon Train." Usually cast in Hispanic roles, he was also called upon to play Persian in "Omar Khayyam" and a Cossack in "Taras Bulba" Among his other film appearances were "Mister Roberts" and Chinatown sequel "The Two Jakes"; on TV he appeared on "The Mod Squad," "Charlie's Angels," "Star Trek" and "Hart to Hart." He is survived by several nieces and nephews. |

The Creature is no more... Sad news as Bloody-Disgusting.com have received a call that Ben Chapman, the last of the original Universal Monsters, has passed away today in Hawaii. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...6/100_2732.jpg Chapman was best know as the actor that played THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. Talent scouts from Universal-International "discovered" Chapman upon his return from the Korean War, and for a year he became a U-I stock player--and, at six-foot-five, an ideal choice for the finny title role of The Gillman in "Creature from the Black Lagoon". http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...indow/wjat.jpg This was reported on his official website :- "Ben Chapman passed away at 12:15 am Hawaii time on Thursday, February 21 at the VA hospital in Honolulu. His health began to deteriorate February 12 and he was admitted to the hospital on February 20. His life support was turned off Wednesday around noon and his pacemaker was turned off shortly before he died. He died peacefully with his wife, Merrilee, and son, Ben Chapman III, by his side. He was 79 years old at his death. His body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a church near the beach in Honolulu. More information will be distributed as it becomes known." R.I.P. Ben. You will be missed.:( |
