Like I said I'll watch it again but I would have rather seen something off the wall. It would have been cool if they just lost it and burned down the house and something came running out screaming but you couldn't make out what or who it was because it was engulfed in flames. Wouldn't have shown the witch at all but I didn't like the movie so the whole thing would've been different.

But there you have it: closure.
Why closure?
You might think a mysterious burning person/thing would still mess with people's heads later on, at night, when they're trying to forget about the film... but such a part-revelation wouldn't trouble anyone familiar with the endings of The Car and suchlike (i.e. the "witch" is either a person/creature or supernatural force, which we've kind of narrowed it down to already).
That is the manipulative skill involved in the ending (indeed the whole film) of The Blair Witch Project - the creators show you little, and tell you just as much, but the consideration that has been put into the execution of those final scenes leaves us gagging for answers and pondering over what the truth could possibly be... whether we like it or not.
Note must also be made of the extraordinary sound design here - do you hear those ominous "screams/screeches" as Heather is nervously moving downstairs? What are they? They don't sound like they are coming from her... This ambiguity increases the nagging uncertainty we are left with long after the end credits roll.
