and 'cool' has become a very good word with a life of it's own ..
it's transcended 'fly by night' status and will always be with us ..

I've just reread some of this thread, and what's amusing me most, is most of the stuff you lot hate and moan about, never used to be heard of here... since a lot of the advertising and hollywood uses so much of it in films, Uk culture has taken this all in, and now the kids grow up and use the slang all the time. Now english advertising companies in the Uk have latched onto the idea and now I see english products being sold the 'american' way, your slang you hate so much is become so influencial it 'could' get scary.

How about words that have a whole new meaning.
{Again...I'm not trying to be insensitive.}

"Gay" used to mean "happy"
"fag" used to mean cigarette.[ a bit before my time ]

the word faggot means a bundle of sticks.

i'm always suprised at this day and age the number of people (especially on this forum) that use the expression 'gay' to describe things they dont approve of.

then they say they arent homophobic ...

i think that if you saw a man in a pretty dress wearing lipstick and sitting on another mans lap - and the other man was wearing chaps, cowboy boots and hat, a studded leather choker and no pants .... it might then be appropriate to say 'that looks gay'

other than that - it's a pretty poor use of the word.

THAT WAS ONE TIME!......sheesh.
