Almost Famous

I dug it, very much so.

Elvis_Christ 07-08-2008 06:48 PM

Maximum Overdrive isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I like it a lot... and how fuckin' dope is the soundtrack!

Last watched:

Marked For Death

This was really good. One of the last decent Seagal flicks before he went downhill after Under Siege
Pity the R4 DVD is cut, fuckers I thought people were over trimming films these days. Its not a Seagal flick unless he's breaking peoples bones.

The_Return 07-08-2008 08:20 PM

The Incredible Hulk

Finally managed to get out and see this, and I wasn't let down in the slightest. I really couldn't find much wrong with it aside from Liv Tyler...I usually dont mind her, but she was horrendous in this. Otherwise, it was pretty much a perfect comic-book flick.

Marvel seems to know what they're doing with there flicks so far...here's hoping the rest of the Avengers movies turn out as awesome as this + Iron Man!

Curious, who do you think should play Cap?

Thats been bugging me like crazy, to be honest...I really don't have any idea.

I do have complete faith in Marvel though - they'll get the right guy for the job. Word on the street is that they want Leonardo DiCaprio, and even though I personally think that he's a really bizarre choice, I know that they know what they're doing. I just cant see him playing that kind of character, plus he's pretty short.

Otherwise, I have no clue. There are a bunch of people that look the part, but most are too old. My favourite pick - I really, really wish he was about 10 years younger - might be Mark Valley:

http://www.tvsa.co.za/images/actors/...valley_big.jpg

I only know him from Boston Legal, but I think he could pull it off...but I think Marvel wants to stick with A-list names, so he's probably out of the running.

Who's your choice? If you say John Cena, I think I'll kick your ass.

Iron Man (2008)

Second time. It's a good'un.

"Yeah. I can fly."

I was thinking Aaron Eckhart. I'd always thought he would be good for the part. If he can bulk up a bit, that is.

_____V_____ 07-08-2008 09:05 PM

McConaughey could ve pulled it off, but they are not pursuing him.

Too old, if you ask me. Looks the part and could play it for sure, but youth is a BIG part of Cap, and I dont think he could pull that off.

I think thats going to be the main problem - finding somebody young enough who still has the talent + star power to both play the part and share the screen with heavyweights like Norton + Downey Jr.

And for the record...I'm really glad that they aren't going for McConaughey. No offense V, but I think he would have been AWFUL.

_____V_____ 07-08-2008 09:12 PM

Well I dont see anyone else good enough to play him.

Face and charisma, yes maybe contenders in that dept. Physique and personality, nope no show.

Although, a certain Christian Bale comes to mind...but he is Bruce Wayne already. ;)

But I hope Brad Pitt ends up being Thor. Because when Avengers rolls around it'll be Pitt and Norton in a film together again. But I'm not extremely familiar with Thor so I'm not positive how it would work out.

_____V_____ 07-08-2008 09:18 PM

Blonde - check,

Handsome - check,

Tall - Nope,

Heavy-built - Nope,

Personality - Check,

Face - Check,

Viking God - Hmm...

Despare 07-08-2008 09:19 PM

Who Can Kill a Child?

PS: For Cap I'd choose Josh Hartnett, it's a shame nobody could get John Cena to act because he looks the part. Oh, and maybe Neal McDonough...

WALL·E (2008)

the surprisingly complex multi-plot that made ratatouille so much fun has been replaced here by a simple love story within a science-fiction cautionary tale.

i really, really enjoyed this one.
very much recommended.

Posher778 07-08-2008 10:26 PM

Goldeneye- 6.5/10

Great action.... But Brosnan is not Bond. Thanks a lot Craig for redefining everything and winning me over! Also, the girl Bond worked with in this one was unnattractive and bland.

Despare 07-08-2008 10:56 PM

The Gateway Meat

I don't think I'll review this one yet, I think to be fair I have to give it another watch. I can say that it reminded me a lot of a film along the lines of murder set pieces only... better I think.

Roderick Usher 07-08-2008 11:32 PM

In Bruges

A wonderfully dark comedy with unexpectedly shocking violence and a really wierd sense of morality and propriety amongst otherwise awful people.

7.5/10

Vixen! (1968)

http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/7913/vixenpa1.jpg

Perfect tagline: Is she a woman or animal?:D Anyway, this is my first Russ Meyer film and this satiric sexploitation film is about a hupersexual married woman named Vixen Palmer played by stunning Erica Gavin . It has wicked dialog, hot sex, infidelity, incest, racism, lesbianism, anti-communism message, plane kidnapping....and... what else left!?!

Humm...now Tarantino is going to remaking Russ Meyer's Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!....fine! I'm looking forward to see this one.

Started watching The Blob last night.....it got late so I didn't finish. Really cheesy with some really bad acting especially from Mr McQueen. And all the "teens" looked like they were in their 30's. But it was fun to re-visit it and I'll most likely finish it tonight.

it wasn't until that long ago (around the time Fame came out) that kids were played by kids (or at least by people who looked like kids.

all of the 'kids' in those 50's teen movies were played by old people - its pretty funny really.

Angra 07-09-2008 07:46 AM

"Shutter" (remake) 5/10

It is hysterical...especially the scene where you have this 30 something looking guy pretending to be sleeping so he can sneak out of the house.

I'm also betting that neverending has the theme to this one.....thats the first thing I thought of when it started.

Three different versions. Can you believe it was written by Burt Bacharach?

phantomstranger 07-09-2008 11:30 AM

"Wanted"

Brutal, violent and way, way over the top. It was also very funny in a dark kind of way, and it had Angelina Jolie killing people. I enjoyed it.

fortunato 07-09-2008 01:40 PM

Cruel Intentions- 8.5/10

That was startlingly good, with a great ending!

Posher778 07-09-2008 07:47 PM

Storm Warning- 5/10 Good soundtrack... but nothing that hasn't been done hundreds of times. It's not bad really, its just the same thing we've already seen.

You Only Live Twice- 7.5/10 Climax was really impressive for its time. Sean Connery still pisses me off as Bond though.

He just isn't Bond. He doesn't act like the book Bond's that much imo, and he's never been that convincing to me anyway.

Funny, because he's the closest to Ian Fleming's Bond, IMO.

Until Daniel Craig came about, anyway.
