Riki-Oh meets Kill Bill meets Battle Royale (but not as good as those films) with Japanese schoolgirls, machine gun arms, chainsaw legs, drill bras, flying guillotines, ninjas, yakuza, tons of gore, fountains of blood and tempura.

Original? No. Creative? Yes. Fun? Fuck yeah!

7.5/10

Looking forward to checking out this one. The trailers looked mental!

Silent Rage

Fine piece of 80s exploitation! Can't recommend it enough.

Very good. Starts off with a pretty cool, light segment, then the tone, characters and action gets deeper as it goes along. Serves as a good bridge introducing Maroni, Gordon's MCU, the narrows' situation, what happened to Crane(with a too short killer croc cameo). Also, I think Allen represents the majority of Gotham(Or at least it's police), not too comfortable with Batman till they later come along. Just a great piece of work overall.

Great film. One of the truly disturbing slashers I have seen.

Deadbeat at Dawn

Whenever I get depressed about the state of hollywood, I like to pop in this no-budget classic. Van Bebber is inspiring as hell.

"The happening" 5-6/10

Well..... It contains more action than "The village". But except for that, the title is sooo ironic.

Angra 07-01-2008 03:07 PM

"The incredible hulk" 5/10

Not a helluva lot better than the first one, imo. Most of the time i was quite bored really.

And i didn't think Norton was right for the role as Banner.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 6/10

Been watching the whole series and there actually not that bad.

missmacabre 07-01-2008 04:49 PM

Asian girls, hints at lesbianism, an amputee and lots of bloody fun. Guess what movie just jumped into my top 10.

Wanted

I never read the comic, but I've heard it doesn't quite follow the storyline. It doesn't make a lot of sense and it's message seems to be that you actually can solve all your poblems with a gun, knife or exploding rat, but regardless, it is a fun, flashy, loud and over-saturated ride.

Timur Bekmambetov delivers on the visual promise of the Nightwatch franchise and really throws the kitchen sink at this one. The first 30 minutes are pure deep-fried gold. James McEvoy is snarky and fun as the lead. Morgan Freeman says "mutherfucker" which elicited some rather nervous laughter from the audience who have clearly become acccustomed to seeing him play God lately. Cameos from Terrence Stamp & Thomas Kretchman are lovely, the locations are stunning and Angelina Jolie really needs to eat a fucking sandwich (yeah, I know she's preggers now, but she looked like a head on a stick in this film.)

It ain't great, but of all the summer action flicks so far, this is the one that truly demads dseeing it on the big screen - and other medium (no matter how kick-ass your home theater system is) can only cheapen the visual spectacle.

I thought the movie looked like total shit, but that's just based on trailers.

I hated the trailers as well - just goes to show what you gain from seeing the film in the cinema as opposed to just writing it off because of a snippert rendered on an inferior medium.

All the Real Girls

Good, genuine movie.

pumpkin_queen 07-03-2008 11:59 AM

Charlie Bartlet was the last movie I've seen. It was alright, nothing to really write home about though.

Until Death

another direct to video Van Damme flick.

more and more i have to say - i like this guy.
the movies he's in arent brilliant - but they arent bad - he does give a decent performance.

he's specializing in 'burned out tortured soul' roles right now - but he does it well.

i'd have to say - he's probably the best acting 'traditional action hero' out there.

i'd be suprised if he doesn't break into the mainstream again..if a decent director sees his potential and puts him in something good ... even in a secondary role.

yeah, Until Death was pretty god. sure as hell couldn't have lived up to the godliness that was Wake of Death, but it was good. Van Damme is back in the game these days.

Hostel II
and i thought the first one was bad....my god.

Hopefully it'll happen, I wouldn't be suprised especially after the new Rambo flick.
I'd love to see action cinema return to the heyday of the 80s an early 90s.
I'll have to check that one out. I thought Wake Of Death was really good.
Have you seen Death Warrant? Watched that again for the first time in years a week or so back. Really cool apart from some of the horribly dated music. Great prison flick meets undercover cop kinda deal. Great fun!

Kane_Hodder 07-03-2008 06:48 PM

The Killer.
Good, mindless action fun.

Ultimate Avengers: The Movie

I really enjoyed this one....they really did a good job with the characters. Kind of wish we would have seen more of Thor though - his fight with the Hulk was pretty much the best part of the show.

I'll have to grab the rest of these animated Marvel flicks...

crabapple 07-04-2008 06:09 AM

Yeah.....I thought Ultimate Avengers--The Movie was really good too. I thought it moved a little too fast, and might have felt more like a "movie" with a pace that was just a touch slower. But it's good.

That's the one where the last half hour was them fighting Hulk, right? I liked that one.
