I've celebrated my birthday with the Wild Zero drinking game three years running.

Do it!

I'll second that. The case made it look and sound great too.

Currently watching the Golden Compass, and liking it a lot.

last seen movie

hello everyone I haven't been on here in awhile but hello anyway,
the last seen movie was Hatchet and Halloween and freddy's new nightmare

cactus 05-03-2008 06:00 PM

[Rec] - Wow! All that everyone said...outstanding and ultra-creepy.

Posher778 05-03-2008 06:24 PM

The Golden Compass- 7/10

I really enjoyed this. I liked the acting, the plot, everything. It looked amazing too. My only real problem with the film was the pacing. It wouldve been fine if it was longer, they didn't need to make it fast forward the whole time. Also, the action scenes were too rushed. other than that I thought it was an enjoyable fantasy/adventure.

urgeok2 05-03-2008 08:40 PM

Cloverfield ... again

less impact the second time around - on an 8' screen instead of the theatre - but i'm still in awe of the film.

an incredible gift for fantasy film lovers.

fortunato 05-03-2008 11:10 PM

the third man (1949)

incredible noir classic.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here. I want to be very, very clear that Cloverfield entertained me quite a bit, and I did like it.

But does anyone else find it a little too...well, gimmicky?
I can't even imagine watching it twice, because after the shock and awe is gone there really doesn't seem to be much else there.

i didnt find it any more gimmicky than any other horror film ...

i thought it had a story to tell - and it told it. i enjoyed the performances, i enjoyed the progression of events ... and i'll probably see the film several times more.

as i mentioned - something is definately lost once you take the film out of the theatre - it's a giant monster film that works best with a giant screen to maintain the aspect ratio between the small you and the humoungous 'it'

but seeing it a second time just reinforced to me how incredibly well made it was.

i actoually found it less gimmicky than any other horror film i've seen in ages - and by that i mean dispite the fantasy premise it took the approach of what would happen if this was possible - and i believe the events and the actions of the characters were extremely natural and believable.

Iron Man – Good, and fun, but as great as I expected it would be, actually. Turns out a lot of Downey’s best lines were in the trailer, sadly. Still, fun, and I expect that the next one will be great.

Borderland

Solid acting. Pacing was good, thought it developed well. Pretty brutal, too. Very decent movie, in my opinion.

horrorobsessed 05-04-2008 12:13 PM

Planet Terror.........finally. 6/10

it's funny, i had to wait for my mom to go out of town until i was able to rent it. it was a good movie and i liked it, but it just seemed kind of corny. "I never miss." What was that? the whole tongue thing grossed me out though. Freddy Rodrieguez is freaking hot though.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was rude. He's right, you know- the entire Grindhouse project was set in motion with the intention of campy, cheesy, exploitation homage. If you go in expecting anything but these attributes, you will not enjoy them.

Niklaus 05-04-2008 05:43 PM

I watched "Beyond the door" this afternoon... SEVERELY underrated - I thoroughly enjoyed it.

fortunato 05-04-2008 07:46 PM

reservation road (2007)

not bad, but pretty unremarkable overall.

kumonosu jô (throne of blood) (1957)

another thoroughly entertaining samurai masterpiece from kurosawa.

Psycom5k 05-04-2008 09:48 PM

Juno - Still love the movie. 10/10

Iron Man - Oh my freaking god, I had so much fun with this movie. I am a little dissapointed at the ending, but after sitting through the credits I'm not so dissapointed anymore. Those who did sit through the credits will know why. 9/10

On a side note...

Haha - Very well could be, you never know. At first it is an attractive young woman... But as she rotates her head from left to right, her face morphs into that of a mans. Incredibly wierd and creepy scene.

And Hell yeah Elvis, thanks for showing interest in the movies I have been posting!

A Snake of June.

If you like the spastic, sexual style of Shinya Tsukamoto you'll like this. I thought it was beautifully shot and weird as hell.

newb 05-05-2008 08:51 AM

Was going to watch INSIDE last night....but it was late and I didn't want to fall asleep in the middle....so I put Rocky Balboa on instead. I liked the first and second Rocky....got bored with the rest so I was surprised that this was good enough to keep my attention through the whole thing. A nice cap on the Rocky franchise I suppose.

Saw this a few months ago. Very stylish & unique.

Sunshine ~ had some problems with the last few minutes, but I loved most of it.

Danika ~ some of it is surprisingly good. Tomei was good as the lead. Some would have a problem with the ending, I know. Oh and Craig Bierko annoyed the hell out of me, so that hurt it a bit for me as well. Overall, definitely had its moments, but not great.

The Marsh ~just a bore for the most part, but I absolutely hated the ending.

American Gangster ~ liked it a lot, a solid film with good performances by Washington and Crowe (oh and so happy to see Josh Brolin pop up in another good movie! ;) )

And also, American Gangster put me in the mood for L.A. Confidential, so watched most of that last night as well.

Niklaus 05-05-2008 10:43 AM

I watched Lamberto Bava's "Macabre" last night - Probably the best Bava Jr. film I have seen thus far. It's definitely scary, wierd and certainly nothing short of macabre. Check it out.
