The Shining.....

jenna26 04-24-2008 01:30 PM

The Messengers ~ not terrible, and I liked some of it, but it was just so....dull at times, and very predictable.

Geddy 04-24-2008 03:58 PM

200 Motels.

Big Trouble in Little China

I had not seen this since I was child in the 80's...

7/10

Dante'sInferno 04-24-2008 04:42 PM

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

This is what I think an acid trip would be like.

GorePhobia 04-24-2008 09:20 PM

Rescue Dawn

Very good movie all around. Doesn't have much action in it or anything but it shows how well people use willpower, love of life, and the wanting to live. Christian Bale is brilliant as always and I think Steve Zahn is doing a great job in a serious role. Very well made.

7.5/10

I love Big Trouble in Little China. Was a favorite of mine when I was 8 and still is now that I'm all growns up.

Watched : Borderland. Haven't seen the other films "to die for", but this one was really well done. Liked it a lot.

You should watch Little Dieter Needs to Fly. Same director (Herzog) but it's a documentary in which Dieter actually recounts and relives his experience. Fascinating and brutal. Much stronger than Rescue Dawn.

Despare 04-24-2008 10:06 PM

An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge

Enrico directed a beautiful and timeless movie... recommended to any fan of film.

Kane_Hodder 04-24-2008 10:23 PM

Lady in the Water.
Started off so well, and then went from bad to worse. Shyamalan has definitely lost his magic wand.

ManchestrMorgue 04-24-2008 10:23 PM

Alligator

A good reason not to flush wildlife down the toilet.

I'll definitely check this out. I thought Rescue Dawn was shot very well and it helped show the helplessness of war. But if that is a documentary told by the real man then I am sure it will pack a punch.

Yeah, and, I mean, it was the same director so there's no shift in position or anything. It's just a lot more powerful.

Sounds pretty good. I'll check it out.

The Mothman Prophecies.

hammerfan 04-25-2008 03:02 AM

Cloverfield

I loved it. When I get some extra money, I'm definitely going to buy this one. I remember a few folks here saying it gave them motion sickness, and I can see that happening if you see it on the big screen. Seeing it on the small screen wasn't too bad.

urgeok2 04-25-2008 06:59 AM

Godzilla VS Destroyah

dumb as shit of course .. but fun anyway.

this one was kind of sad - godzilla didnt fare too well.

Despare 04-25-2008 10:03 AM

Jack Ketchum's The Girl Next Door

The story sat and got stagnant which really pulled down what could have been an excellent film.

carpenoctem 04-25-2008 11:39 AM

Grindstone Road, with Fairuza Balk.

Found it on Sundance or Encore OnDemand, cant remember. Only reason I watched it was because I havent seen Fairuza in anything since Island of Dr. Moreau.

Lets just say it was very sedentary. The 'scary' parts didnt do much for me at all. The house was pretty decent looking, but the plot and acting was very under par.

Kane_Hodder 04-25-2008 12:27 PM

Them.
Pretty good suspenseful thriller.

illdojo 04-25-2008 12:52 PM

Cloverfield - 7/10
I finally watched it....Great monster movie... Cool FX.
It's been discussed.....I'm done. :)

Abominus 04-25-2008 01:12 PM

The Return - Starring Buffy

Meh, It's not bad per se, it's just really shallow and boring.

Geddy 04-25-2008 04:45 PM

Cloverfield.

Posher778 04-25-2008 05:55 PM

Battle Royale- 8/10

Major spoilers:

I really liked the ending for what it was, but it still pissed me off! Sure it was optimistic and whatever, but the fact that I KNEW it was gonna be like that it was made me mad. Just ONCE I wish a film would dare to actually DO what it's supposed to. 42 go in. ONE leaves. Sick of that sentimental.... bullshit.

Otherwise, it was a great ending. I'm a bit conflicted.

Comments?

ChronoGrl 04-25-2008 06:10 PM

I agree. The ending was so silly. I wanted crazy chick #11 to make it to the end. I honestly thought that the end was serendipitous and contrived...

But the movie as a whole is good enough that I can forgive it that.

Posher778 04-25-2008 06:13 PM

I wanted #13 to be the winner. I knew they wouldn't.... but stilllll.

ChronoGrl 04-25-2008 07:09 PM

Yeah - I loves me the Gogo. Wish she had a bigger part.

cactus 04-25-2008 08:10 PM

Watch the last couple movies I've seen. Inside and Ketchum's The Girl Next Door (don't make a mistake and pick up the teen comedy instead). I didn't really like the story to The Girl Next Door but it was based on a true story supposedly so who knows if it could have been better. I wouldn't watch it again but you may like it. One thing it does, in a couple of parts actually, is instill a feeling of helplessness which is a pretty effective tool for a thriller.

Inside was another story, I liked that one from beginning to end and forgave the little hiccups it had in parts because the whole was so good. Both may be a little much for some viewers.

hellfire1 04-25-2008 09:42 PM

Wrong Turn 2

Henry fucking Rollins. That's all.

The_Return 04-26-2008 06:02 AM

Gone Baby Gone

Ben Affleck really needs to stay on that side of the camera. I dont really despise him as an actor, but this directorial effort is better than anything I've seen him do on screen.

One of the best movies of last year, IMO - how did it only get one Oscar nod?

Geddy 04-26-2008 06:13 AM

Cloverfield With Commentary.

Requiem for a Dream

Fucked. Up. Movie.

Really, really well done, but man...I need a shower.

Ugh, I know what you're talking about. I've seen it twice, and believe me, I have no intention of revisiting it.

hellfire1 04-26-2008 10:09 AM

Anatomie

Loses it's steam during the last half hour or so, but good movie overall, quite original and Franka Potente is great as usual.

Awesome since you watched it you can call my radio show this Wednesday because we are doing a full show on it. We will give our thoughts, break down the performances, talk about real life experiences with the subject matter and whatnot.

Really excellent film.
