Odd little movie, but really enjoyable. This P.T. Anderson character is quickly becoming one of my favourite filmmakers:)

Now you know why he features in my recent Top 10 list of directors.

Give Boogie Nights a spin. Untapped and raw talent at its finest.

Have you seen the character photos they've released?

I became significantly less pumped when I saw Ozymandias + Silk Spectre...blech. Nite Owl looks pretty faithful to the book, but sadly that look REALLY doesn't look so great in real life.

That said, they NAILED Rorschach and The Comedian, so who knows. Its a safe bet that it wont be anywhere near the book, but it could turn out half decent.

Men In Black

SamCostello 04-13-2008 10:10 AM

The Dead Girl – a crime story about a murdered girl, her killer, and the people who interact with her life. Told in Rashomon-style disjointed narrative. Very good stuff. And with the huge casts of stars (Brittany Murphy, Marcia Gay Harden, Toni Collette, Giovanni Ribisi, Josh Brolin, and more) hard to believe that it seems to have gotten little or no theater release. Worth a watch.

Liked this alot.I felt it was well done.At first I wondered how they could make this movie could being stuck in a parking garage but I thought they pulled it off pretty well. There was even a pretty good death scene in it.

There Will Be Blood - 9/10
Wow, what a great film. It was so gritty and raw. I loved it. D-Day definitely deserved his Oscar.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story - 7/10
Pretty funny. John C. Reilly, Tim Meadows, and Jenna Fischer did a good job in this parody filx. Also, Jack White was hilarious as Elvis.

Didn't find the setting too interesting, but the story between Danny and Maggie was nice. And D. Day-Lewis did what he always does.

Nim's Island.

good movie for kids ..passable for the adults who have to attend.

pushed my tolerance a few times but there were some good moments.

The last movie we watched was Wristcutters: A Love Story.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...nBnXkFtZTc.jpg

This movie was absolutely amazing. Definitely appealed to my melancholic existential senses. It's another indie look at the afterlife; the afterlife for suicides. It's dark, it's funny, the characters are interesting, quirky, and well-acted. The soundtrack is fucking amazing. AND Tom Waits is in it.

And, if I haven't given you enough reasons, it has her:

Oh, sweet sultry Shannyn Sossamon... I am putty in your willing hands...

...

Wristcutters: A Love Story - A/A+. I definitely recommend.

Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street ~ I absolutely LOVED this movie, as I kind of figured I would.

The Abandoned ~ I actually liked this one as well, had its problems (didn't completely make sense all of the time) but it was interesting, and had some creepy moments. Not bad.

Watched this one AGAIN and I can't get enough of it. The scenery, the story, the characters... I really want to see Sondheim's version just to see Angela Lansbury's performance.

The Blood Spattered Bride.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA240_.jpg

Nice piece of 70s Euro horror. I first heard about it when QT was promoting the LA Grindhouse festival in Mar-Apr last year, and this was chosen as one of the screened movies.

The movie on DVD looks absolutely gorgeous. The plot and characterisation isn't much to write about, but the experience is fairly enjoyable. Its made by a Spanish guy and has Spanish stars (with two very good-looking females), and some scenes will make gore lovers very happy, specially a long scene involving unflinching mutilation!!

Overall, it was good...without leaving an impression. Half-decent, if you don't take the scripting into consideration.

Jenna, Rayne and Des...take note. I bet Z has already seen this, if not...then recommended to him too.

Naked Lunch

and

The Descent

The first, by Cronenberg, is sure to mess with your mind. Pretty disgusting stuff, lots of references to homosexuality, I think it's about the inability to escape from a painful reality, even through drugs. Don't try to make too much sense out of this movie or you'll get a headache. But it's good. Real good.

About The Descent, I enjoyed it because there wasn't a single man in it (human) and that's not very usual. Also, I'm a girl and identified with the group. The whole claustrophobic thing creeped me out. Ok actresses, some scares, lots of tension and a surprising ending (at least for me). Not bad at all, saw it at night and it gave me nightmares.

bingo. first time i watched this i couldnt enjoy it because the whole time i was trying to make sense out of it, but i figured out that its a movie in which you just need to turn your brain off for and just watch.

AvP Requim---not a bad watch....could have used more light.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead--Phillip Seymore Hoffman was excellent as usual..Ethan Hawke is an underated actor...Marisa Tomei as well plus she is effing hot.

i didnt like Hot Fuzz as much as most people did. I thought it was OK but i connected with a Zombie parody far more than i did with a buddy-cop parody.

at not point did Hot Fuzz get as funny as the scene with the guys throwing records at the zombies

'batman soundtrack'

I'm gonna agree with you here. I also was a bit disappointed in Hot Fuzz. I think the reason is Simon Pegg played it too straight and serious through 3/4 of the movie.
I get it that his character was suppose to be up-tight but for me it didn't work as well as Sean of the Dead.

Not that I was expecting more, but it's as forgettable as you'd think.

Lucky Number Slevin - I'm not sure if the end was supposed to be a "twist" or not, as it was totally obvious from the very beginning. Not a completely terrible movie, though.

Perfect Stranger - Meh. Not bad but not really my type of shit.

Reign Over Me - Pretty hard-hitting. I'd recommend it.

Clerks II - Wow. Just...wow. I've never been a fan of Smith's "comedy", although I did enjoy the first Clerks, but this shit was so disgustingly awful that I turned it off after only about 15-20 minutes in.

Hot Fuzz - Pretty fun watch.

AUSTIN316426808 04-14-2008 03:19 PM

Hmmm some interesting points from some people.

Clerks II = amazing no matter what anyone says. :)

Hot Fuzz to me was slightly off for the first hour of the film I agree but the last 45 minutes are well worth it.
