And I wanted to see the original before the remake, which I have been dying to see. Except I can't find a release date anywhere.

joshaube 01-23-2008 03:31 PM

I thought that they canned the remake? I remember reading some pretty abysmal reviews for it, and then finding a few comments saying that it was shelved indefinitely. That might be my imagination though, I wanted to see it as well.

hellfire1 01-23-2008 03:36 PM

Hadn't heard that. I've seen the trailer. Maybe it'll be a direct to DVD release.

There is a New Zealand indie film in theatres right now, but if you have Comcast on demand, you can watch it in your home right now. It's called Out of the Blue and it depicts the true story of a loner in a small NZ village who snaps one day and starts shooting his neighbors.

Sounds very mundane to Americans I'm sure, but this film is gripping. Utilizing actors who look like normal people, instead of actors, heightens the reality of the situation and everyone does a great job, especially the guy who plays the madman.

It shows how the actions of one person can affect the lives of so many. This is a truly rivetting thriller and I recommend it to everyone. I even watched it twice, which I rarely do. It's also very interesting to see how one community, not used to violence in its midst deals with it.

A really excellent movie.

the orphanage

featured some really chilling stuff. cool story.
what impressed me the most is how it took a premise/plot devices that have been run into the ground and made it truly interesting and fresh.

The Astronaut's Wife.

This one had a very interesting premise right off from the beginning (sort of like the beginning from Species II), but soon fell away, especially towards the last 20-odd minutes.

Saying anything would give the plot away, but I ll say this...if the 2nd half was plotted better (instead of going The Brood or Rosemary's Baby's ways), this could have been an awesome thriller.

Among the cast, Depp is good in his usual self, but Theron disappoints. The supporting cast is strong, and the direction and cinematography are decent. Another good beginner falls out, because of the thin 2nd half and the weak ending.

Stick a fork in the franchise, it's done!! I dig all the Saw movies, but I think it's time to stop. This one had some pretty sweet games/traps. I'm only giving it 7/10 for all the gore.

Well it's not done because they are shooting for an October 2008 release again.

It's in pre-production right now.

Well I ve been watching some action movies in my build-up to catching Rambo later tonight, and this is how they stand...

Death Wish - 08/10 (Bronson was my fav in the 80s)

Missing in Action - 07/10 (No wonder Norris became God...)

Invasion USA - 06/10 (Norris again...against a whole damn army!)

Code of Silence - 06/10 (Norris...and cops...action-packed)

Silent Rage - 08/10 (I loved this one a lot...Norris taking on a killer with supernatural overtones...cant get any better than this)

Commando - 08/10 (gotta love Arnie!)

Raw Deal - 07/10 (entertaining Arnie's earlier stuff...he looks polished too!)

Mad Max - 08/10 (Mel Gibson's best...still)

Die Hard - 09/10 (THE complete actioner yet)

Dirty Harry - 08/10 (still holds up well)

Django - 07/10 (classy western)

Pale Rider - 08/10 (This is on par with Unforgiven for me)

Iron Eagle - 07/10 (I forgot how much FUN this movie was)

First Blood - 08/10 (pure dynamite...Rambo rules!)

For me as well, its actually my favorite Clint Eastwood movie.

Who Saw Her Die?

This cool giallo from Aldo Lado surely influenced Nicholas Roeg's Don't Look Now. While a bit slow at times, this is one of my favorite giallo gems from anyone other than the big three (Bava, Argento, Martino.)
