i think the ayers thing has been way blown out of proportion. let's all recall that mccain was buddy-buddy with Keating (of the 1990 savings and loan scandal) and was even chastised officially by the US senate for having 'poor judgment' in relation to his helping Keating avoid regulators.

the key though is that obama has a vision for getting america moving and people responded (not all but most and a bigger number than have responded to any prez candidate in the past decade). love him or hate him - he is now our president and deserves at least some level of respect until you can point to actual mistakes he's made as president

A man is not responsible for the actions of those around him. I used to hang out with people who were freinds with a guy who raped a girl. I was around him all the time, so people could infer that he was my friend (although listening to how I spoke to him, there was no mystery that i hated him), so if I decided to run for office, people could say "he used to hang out with a rapist", which is technically true. But so what?

besides politicians - or leaders of any kind - have to associate with all kinds of people - the key is what you do with and for them. obama didn't have a long lasting relationship - he had a fundraiser the guy had a little bit to do with. he's not out using political influence to help the guy (which, incidentally, IS what McCain did)

Obama has some ridiculously high standards to live up to. There are a frightening number of people treating this like christ coming down from on high and destroying evil with his mighty lightsaber. he's a man for god's sake. Keep a realistic expectation and hope he can make good on the expectations, and if not, that he will at least try where so many have folded or were clearly bullshitting before.


Plus, dont be too harsh, or Michelle Obama will kick your ass. Seriously, she is the first First lady i have ever looked at and though "There is no way I am fuckign with that woman". you apparently dont understand the mechanics of hate. when you hate someone, but in order to be around people you like you are forced to endure their presence, you do things to make it bearable.


In my case, if i dislike something or someone, i often take great pleasure in causing them discomfort. Its not like i was beating up a kid for having bad hair, i was trashing and belittling a horrible selfish arrogant douchebag that sadly was good friends with one of my good friends, and he insisted on speaking to me despite my many overt "I dont like you, why are you talking to me?"

So i tortured him emotionally.

If it's his policies you disagree with: here's the beauty of America's Checks and Balances Policy and how Congress works. A prez just can't make a law and it's there. It starts as a bill...goes to the House first...and ALL it's committes, get's debated on the floor, makes any neccessary revisions, then debated again, then voted on--then the same exact thing happens with Senate--only because there's more equal power and not as centralized in terms of structure--any Senator could make the process longer for everyone by deciding to fillibuster a bill. Then they vote. And send it to the Prez...the prez can choose to sign or veto or make them do it all again....if he vetoes, congress if they feel neccessary can overide his veto.

So for any Anti-obamas on here that dislike him b/c of his policy ideas I'm sure everyone policy he makes will not end up as he's described on the campaign trail. Yes we the democrats have the majority in the House and picked up a little more seats in the Senate--but in the Senate often the minority party gets just an equal say if not more in the house becasue there's so few and unlike the House can filibuster. So they'll wanna reform his ideas. And 2 --he really wants to alleviate partianship and has worked closely with some big time republicans like McCain and Lugar and is consideringf putting some in his cabinet. Which is a reason why Biden was an excellent VP choice--He's still a democrat but NEVER refrains from constructive criticism and critques of his colleagues. Was never an ass-kisser for his party in lamest terms.

So Rayne and others--don't worry you won't be totally dissatisfied, I'm sure.

For no real reason, I decided to resurrect this thread to bask in the warm glow of predicting an Obama presidency 2 years before the election took place. Sorry to say, I have been fairly disappointed in him thus far though. He's turned out to be a lot more of a typical politician than I was hoping. (I'd still vote for him over McCain any day though.)
