Memento is insane. Has everyone else seen this? Does anyone get it? Do you think he got the right guy? I love movies that leave you guessing. Donnie Darko kicks ass. It's one of those movies that is extremely re-watchable and appeals to a wide audience despite being somewhat obscure. (Not obscure to all of us, but we're horror fans and while it isn't horror, it's right up our alley.) All of these theories you guys are bringing up makes me want to go watch it again. |
Memento
Hi bwind22!
Memento is great! I had to watch it twice to understand what actually happened. The whole time people were messing with his head and leading him for their own gain. I like movies that mess with time in general. Both these movies do but in entirely different ways. Memento relating to memory, Donny Darko to time travel. If you like space time,or string theory topics, you should look them up on the web. Lots of layman sites that are so interesting. I was looking that up for hours one day. Makes you look at what we perceive as reality differently. Hey now that I think of it, Memento does that too by getting you to realize how much we depend on our cognitive mind to sort out what is happening around us. Thanks for mentioning this movie bwind! |
I haven't seen Memento, I guess I will go pick it up. I don't see how you said Fight Club was also this way. There is nothing left to wonder about fight club. DOn't get me wrong Fight Club is great, but it isn't like this. I think Apocalypse Now is this way. Have any of you seen it? I love that movie.
How did you all think Donnie ended? I have only heard my ideas, does anyone else have any? |
I see what you're saying about Fight Club wrapping itself up nicely at the end, but after I walked out of the theatre, I was still wondering about a lot of things. Then the second time you watch it, you pick up lots more little stuff. I guess that's the main reason I threw it in there.
I'm glad at least someone (nine) agrees with me on Memento. |
sorry that i never saw your donnie post. may be i would've seen it sooner.
anyway, my take on the movie was that when he was able to see what was pulling him along his path he could see into his future b/c it was already pre-determined. this goes back to the convo he had w/ noah wyle. i think he was able to piece all the clues together in enough time to change the future. everyone was hurt b/c he survived that day and to make things better for everyone he had to die. it sucks b/c he was a real person and good and honest. he was able to at least find joy before he died but it just suckd that he did. i cried. |
Hi Leslie!
I like your theory I had that idea as well, along with a lot of others. It was sad that he died. I really liked his character.
Loved Fight Club! Totally did not expect such a freaky storyline. I thought it tied up in the end too, but at first I didn't see the falashes of Brad Pitt in the beginning. That kind of helped me figure it out. Loved how they did the one person shit kicking scenes. Impressive! |
hi everyone! ;)
i only saw the beginning of fight club where ed norton talked about sweaty man boobs...can't remember why i stopped watching... also, every time i mention donnie darko someone brings up momento..to mixed reviews i have not yet seen this pic just cuz i've pretty much heard the whole story and i don't know how good it'll be BUT i did take a total leap of faith on donnie and i was very happy i did.... i just find that my taste varies very much from others. i like intelligent and thought provoking pics..i don't need everything laid out in front of me like most ppl...i'm not talking about anyone here...it's just hard to take someone's word when they something is good. to want to spend the money it's gotta be pretty damn good!! i know ppl can pretty much trust my taste b/c my whole life is devoted to movies. still not everyone agrees. some ppl think the ROCK's movies are the bomb! nice guy and all but not a terrific actor. entertaining at best. like romance, most of the sheep can't get over pretty woman. HA! :D my romantic pic is BUFFALO 66 or GHOST WORLD! lol! i'm strange i guess. |
Hey Leslie!
Know what you mean. I am a pretty serious person when it comes to movies. I like a movie that has a story that I could never have dreamed of, with alot of intelligence in general. This is why I am choosy about my horrors and dramas. Once in a while I get a kick out of a great campy flick, if it is clever enough. I'm not much of a comedy person & the ones I like you guys probably wouldn't. I guess as horrors go, I've seen it all, and want to be suprised!
Hate sentimental chick flicks. I like romances though that are more complicated like in Elizabeth. Yes this is strange, but I found that movie very romantic. I do like fairy tales though, they at least have an excuse to be a little sappy! Generally though I am a person who jokes around a lot and kind of neurotic, so who gives a shit what I think anyway? LOL! |
I love this movie and the bunny guy is fricken awsome but i wanted to know what did the ending mean like when it showed him die. I didnt get it so could somebody fill me in please. and also i loved the movie so much i bought it the day i watched it. it fricken rocks.

Im exactly the same way. I want a movie that makes you sit up at night just thinking about it. Memento, Virgin Suicides, Se7en and Fight Club did that to me. Fight Club is in the top 3 Movies of all time in my opinion. My parents HATED it, they wouldnt even sit through it. They arent big movie people, but FC is more than a movie, its an experience. |
