I quit my last job as a "technical advisory agent" with Sony Playstation.
It was just a customer service role, troubleshooting, warranty info, bookings, also ran the Australian forums for the product and hosted gaming events.
It was ok and fun at times, but pretty much a stagnant position...not going anywhere at all.
I've decided next year to complete my chef studies and get into a catering position - I'd like to do catering as a business of my own one day so it'll be good to research the workings from inside.

As for jobs now...if something comes along between now and january, I'll go with it.

bartender

I'm at the sidebar, so I generally don't make as much money (some nights I make more) then I would at the main bar but I don't really care. The main bar there is constantly drunken assholes around anyway. I can have more fun then I would at the main bar. Also I only have to be there on high volume nights, that's the main thing. I like my 3 night work weeks. :)

I also have a secret weapon, I give hell's angels free drinks for diverting people from the main bar over to my bar. They will go into the main bar line and tell people to go over the the sidebar basically, nobody argues with them. Each free drink ends up being paid back two fold. In all honesty, I think per week I make just as much money.

When I waited tables for ten years on and off, lots of other waiters and waitresses gave away free food. They made a killing in tips. No pun intended. :p I never did that. Needless to say, I didn't make as much money as they did. I'm pretty soft-spoken and shy so it was hard for me to stand there and BS with the customers, saying things I didn't mean just to get a tip. It made me sick to hear others do that. But they made the money. I have a hard time being dishonest. My guilt tears me apart inside. Oh, and another thing...Some of the moneymakers were tipping the cooks to put their food out first regardless of when they placed their order. That made me look bad, too. Oh well. Those cooks made good money plus those tips. I already had to tip a bartender and a busboy. Sheesh! I had to pay a sitter for my son. I couldn't afford to be tipping everyone.

Hence why I'm starting at a call centre on Tuesday:) . If it works out I'll be doing tech support for Rogers Wireless - and making a whole lot more money then I am now.

Ooooo... Tech support is where i got my start. Good luck not killing yourself or being hopelessly addicted to something in a couple of years. I never knew anyone who actually killed themselves, but I knew a few who were borderline, and saw more addictions there than anywhere else in my life, everything from caffeine to alchohol to worse.

On the bright side, it is a great gateway job. Gets your foot in the door, and if it is for computers, it is about the best place in the world to start.
