NOES-easily. It was truely scary at the time. I agree with others here, its a shame the sequels ruined it. I've thougt att imes that a good prequel done by Craven might offer some type of redemption for the series. It'd be difficult to make jokes or stupid sequences about Freddy as a real person kiling kids in the real world. The biggest problem I see with the idea is that according to the original, Freddy was a " child murderer" I don't really see anyone signing up for or backing any film where young kids are being gutted and sliced up.

I also liked SCREAM. I thought it was original and brought some life back to horror. I mean, any horror fan already knew the "rules" to horror movies. It was kind of cool to see the sub culture that has been built up around the horror genre put on screen. I really liked all the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) nods to other horror films. And alot of people don't realize Craven didn't write SCREAM. He directed it. He actually said he thought about eliminating several lines that refered to him and his films being better than others.
