hate to say but as annoying as that woman may be shit she may end up saving somebody life! its better to open ur mouht and take a chance at perhaps bothering a person that turns out to be OK, than to keep ur mouht shut, wonder, and maybe let somebody fucked up in the head get away ...

If I was intent on doing them harm, I could have gunned them down when they came to the door. I am not saying they were not doing their job I just felt they overreacted. As for the passerby, hunters, (gamesmen they liked to be called) wander all over Hell’s half-acre out here brandishing shotguns and rifles and nobody thinks twice about it. In the city the situation might have looked more suspicious. Despite my inconvenience, I guess everything worked out OK!

I am not trying to start a debate on gun ownership/the right to bear arms. I do however own a couple of guns. I looked out the front door a little while ago and noticed two dogs tearing apart my trash at the road, which is waiting for the garbage truck to come today. I yelled at the dogs, but they just looked at me. I got two pans, walked out about halfway towards the road and started banging them together, again they just looked at me. So I went back inside, got one of my handguns, and shot three times into the hillside about 80 feet South of my house. They left quite quickly to say the least.

Now I live in a very rural area, my nearest neighbor is at least ¼ of a mile away. The hillside is in a wooded area in the opposite direction. No roads, no people, no nothing, I even own about half the wooded area I am talking about. It just so happens a young lady who happened to drive by my home as I was standing outside with the gun, (I even waved to her, because that’s the country thing you do). Well she calls the cops and reports a man with a gun.

The cops show up at my door and ask me to come outside, I asked what for? They said they had a report of someone at my residence with a weapon. I told them I owned a couple of guns and asked if that was a problem. They said it was not a problem but they needed to verify my identification and check to see if the gun was registered. In short, they wanted to verify who I was, if this was my home, and if it was legally my firearm. I told them I would go get my wallet and my gun to show them. They freaked out! They said do not go back into your residence, or we will take it as an aggressive act! I told them that’s where there at. They said until they could verify my ID I would not be allowed into the house! Well I am getting pretty mad right about this time, and asked them how can I ID myself without my wallet? They said they would have to run me through some computer and check me out. So I told the one guy, “look, it’s cold out here, I’m tired and want to go to bed. I’d normally not let you just come in my house but if it will make you happy let’s go.” Well there just happy as shit now! One of them, Darrin was his name, goes in first, me next then Richard brings up the rear. We walk over to the cabinet in the kitchen where my wallet is and get my drivers license out, there getting happier…now they want to see the guns. I told them they are in a safe in the bedroom, so off we go, Starsky, I mean Darrin was first again. They make me wait by the bed, while I tell Starsky the 4-digit combo to the safe! He takes out the 2 handguns, checked to see if they are loaded and starts acting somewhat normal. Hutch, I mean Robert says run the numbers with dispatch so we can get out of here, and leave this guy alone! So blah, blah, blah he starts running the numbers, the other guy asked if he could use my restroom! I am like sure, all the while I am thinking, “want me to fix you guys a snack too!”

So everything checks out OK, and it is ha ha, you know how women are! They leave, and now I am sitting here, pissed off out of my mind and wide awake.

Rule number 1- dont ever let the cops in your house unless they have a warrant. I know everyone thinks the cops are there to protect us but by inviting them into your home you are giving up all your rights as far as search and seizure. By the way, most members of law enforcement have no idea what the laws are concerning firearm ownership, you are lucky you only got what you got.

I'm cool with what you said, and under normal circumstances, (if someone else was at home) I would have prob, told them they couldn't come in. We had come to a standoff and I guess I blinked first.

actually, this isnt exactly giving up ur rights, esp in this day and age you would need to sign a waiver that yes, you did voluntarily allow them in

BUT that depends also on where u live, obviously more po dunk towns rnt gonna be all that sophisterated.

waiver, just basically a guarantee in case u want to bring them to court, that there is no argument that yeh, u volintarily let them in. u can show a piece of paper in court, but words can be argued.

even in the cases of murder, where obviously yeh, ur gonna le the cops in to do their thing, they will still get a warrant just to be on the safe side. cuz every so often there will be that weirdo talkin bout 'i didnt let them in they had no right to be here' etc etc...

Right, so basically anytime a police officer drives by my place and I am standing outside, he can stop and I should consent to a search of my house:eek:

They had no reason to search the guys house, he was in the yard, there was no gun present at that time, therefore no justified reason for the search.

If had been me, Sorry officer, no warrant no search. All it takes is one guy with a bug up his ass to ruin your whole life. Yea yea I know what you are going to say, that not all cops are bad, that may be true but there is enough of them.

I think that they overreacted, my guess is that it is a small town, without much going on and these 2 guys wanted to play "riggs and murtaw"
