If you want to be scared, you have to work on it. Be alone, turn off the lights, lit a candle, smoke weed and be open-minded.

I think it is just HARDER to scare anyone anymore....the movies are not LESS scary...real life is just MORE scary....unfortunately...the MPAA keeps filmakers from keeping up....

Speak for yourself.

I still get the chills - as the man said before, turn the lights off and eliminate any distractions.

That's true to an extent. However, the goriest movies are not the scariest , at least to me. A movie becomes more comical when there is over-the-top gore. Movies like The Excorcist, The Shining, Halloween , Suspiria etc rely on suspense far more than blood and guts, and they are amongst the most chilling movies ....so we have become more desensitized, but I don't think the MPAA not allowing the upping of gore is the problem. I think you get to an age and scares just don't happen anymore. Getting chills is sufficient for me now

I prefer my chills mixed with a little gratuitous violence! :D

I think that modern horror is missing something, and they are not as memorable as the classic ones, but is there any DVD rentals I have missed?

Looking to get scared?

It's not easy, neigh, nearly impossible, for a Horror film fan with tenure to find a movie that will actually scare him/her. You may get startled...a jump here or there...but to actually find a movie that causes you to sleep with your lights on...you know...head under the covers scared, is next to impossible. Try getting a phsycological thriller that deals with the same kind of deap rooted fears that you may have, drowning, buring alive, buried alive etc... at least you may crank out a half-assed decent nightmare.

Horror movies effect everyone differently. The Exorcist (My favorite) scared the living hell out of some seasoned horror film fans, but didn't touch others.

Half the fun of a horror movie is the atmosphere surrounding you; Lights off-darkness except for the tv, sound up, no interruptions and proper viewing angle means alot. Watch it alone!

Good luck in your hunt!
