Don't you think that's kinda cheap though?

the_real_linda 10-20-2007 09:59 AM

maybe i was just ignorant in my reading of the trailer and the movie poster... and that it was a good thing that what i ended up seeing was far better than i expected

Yep it sure was.

They should not have advertised it falsely, but since the audiences were going for LOTR, Harry Potter and Eragon type movies...I can see where the producers were going with it.

Yet, all they had to do was advertise the book (or the TV movie of the 80s). That would ve given them much better results, critically AND at the box office, both.

For such a strong movie...it was indeed a cheap gimmick.

Bridge to Terabithia is also based on a classic book. I urge people to go back and read the book.

Crappy? Then I would guess Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown and Reservoir Dogs would be pretty low in your books, Freak.;)

Welcome to the Quentin Tarantino style of movie-making.

Bride of Chucky. It's my guilty pleasure and one of my faves when it comes to the Child's Play/Chucky movies.

I liked Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs very much, didn't like Jackie Brown though.I Don't mind alot of dialogue at all it's just I felt that Death Proof's Dialogue was very boring and lacked substance. It was mainly just the whole bar scene that really bothered me.

Popped in some chillers last night:

Nosferatu (1922)

Jacob's Ladder (1990)

Kane_Hodder 10-21-2007 08:46 AM

The Burning.
A rather nice film but the ending was a let-down. It could have been so much better.

Q: The Winged Serpent

Pretty sweet. Loved the cheesy-ass effects, and David Carradine is always badass.

jenna26 10-21-2007 09:24 AM

Aunt Rose ~ silly and pretty awful, often unintentionally funny......I admit I got some laughs out of it.
Wizard of Gore ~ over the top, goofy....and yes, entertaining.

Also A Nightmare On Elm Street part 2: Freddy's Revenge
The Hills Have Eyes (original)

SamCostello 10-21-2007 10:24 AM

The Last Waltz, Scorcese’s documentary of The Band’s final concert. I liked a few of the songs a lot, but enjoyed the interview sections more.

Haha! Awesome!

I've been forcing my roommates to watch the most vile movies I have. We watched Ebola Syndrome two nights ago. Not as much fun the second time around, but it's still a great movie.

bwind22 10-21-2007 11:42 AM

Transformers

The effects were great, as was the acting. The story was very straightforward and the action is pretty fast paced right out of the gate. Overall, this is a pretty entertaining action flick. My main gripe is that it was 2 and a half hours long.

John Cusack is a great actor. This story was intentionally confusing until the very end, but it clears things up pretty well once you get there. There's not much gore, but that's alright because it's a psychological film and it's rated PG-13. Normally, I think PG-13 horror movies suck, bu this one was one of the exceptions.

Planet Terror

This was awesome. I loved it. Cool plot, tons of sloppy gore, funny characters and great effects. I think the only thing holding this one back from an A+ grade is the intentional editing goofs and missing reels. I realize that it part of the nostalgic effect, but the sloppy editing was annoying when it wasn't intentional and it's still annoying when it is.

Cube. Obviously I like it a little too much because I found myself reciting the words before they were said this time around.

Masters of Horror, Cigarette Burns. Some really nice gorey bits, overall a good episode.

Bloodrayne 2: Deliverance

I almost hate to admit it, but this film was okay. Not great but nowhere near as bad as the first one.
