Bug

I really enjoyed this piece of claustrophobic paranoia. Excellent performances and astute direction. An odd story with its charms...and it is quite disturbing.

C'est Arrivé Près de Chez Vous (AKA Man Bites Dog) (1993)

Brutal, powerful, and starkly disturbing, with an incredibly mixed bag of black humor and complete violent madness. An intense look at humanity's utter fascination with onscreen violence.
Very, very good.

Reign of the Gargoyles - LOL,WWII Bomber crew Vs Nazi controlled Gargoyles ! You know what?It wasn't too bad,o.k the Germans had "comedy" accents and some of the C.G.I was a little ropey but it was entertaining :) 6/10

Deathproof
Probably Tarintinos worst film yet, but it was still cool...

The car chase towards the end was awesome with the modern pedestrian cars.

Planet Terror

with preview for MACHETE

Most def the better of the two "Grindhouse" flics. gore galore........not just a bunch of chicks sitting around talking for 40 minutes....cool car accident....chicks talking for 45 minutes.....cool car chase.

alkytrio666 10-03-2007 11:05 AM

Completely agreed. Rodriguez had a lot more fun with the project, and, in turn, his project was a lot more fun to watch.

Quentin Tarantino, on the other hand, tried to hard to be, well, Quentin Tarantino. It seemed like a self-parody. In a bad way.

Disease 10-03-2007 11:24 AM

But that is the way those movies where, they were bad movies that got nasty all of a sudden, I think Tarantino payed a good homage..

Kane_Hodder 10-03-2007 11:52 AM

Timeline. Another good story gone bad on screen.

hellfire1 10-03-2007 12:02 PM

Agreed about Deathproof. While I liked the film, I think Tarantino just loves to hear his dialogue, or himself, talk. It felt like a big ego trip to me at times.. Rodriguez really just ran with it. Planet Terror was definitely more enjoyable.

Anyhoo... The Rules of Attraction.

I recently saw Death proof.... I liked it better than Planet terror, but thats just because I haven't seen a car chase like that in a long time and I loved it. I know it was slow and stuff, but the bad ass retaliation was just too much... It was divine. I can maybe agree with the quip about it being his worst... but that's still pretty damn good. Plus I loved all the girls in the movies, especially Zoe... And I liked how what's her name from Sin City was the backseat chick... acting all freaked out, it was grand

Don't get me wrong, nothing spells grindhouse cinema like Faster Pussycat...Kill, Kill! I just felt like he got to wound up in making it a signature.
On that note, I actually did enjoy Death Proof...just not as much as Planet Terror.

And Posh...how have you already seen Planet Terror?

Capote ~ my second viewing, excellent performance by Hoffman, though sometimes the film itself drags in places.

Did you like it? Far cry from American Psycho obviously, but I enjoyed it a bit.

hellfire1 10-03-2007 07:51 PM

It's actually a favorite of mine. A whole lot bleaker than American Psycho, imo, even though i love Christian Bale and he's completely off the hook in it. But I actually prefer this one.... and I know I'm probably alone on this. :p

Actually, I know a couple of people that prefer it. My brother thinks it's funnier and my cousin, not verbatim, but basically said the same thing you did.

''Bale made Psycho awesome dude, but Attraction is just way more raw man.'' My cousin is the only cajun hippie I've ever met.

Hm, a tiny ways into my horror marathon. Knocked off Planet Terror first, since I watched Death Proof on the first of last month - tradition, y'know. Then I double-featured The Stuff and The Blob. The former wasn't very horror-like. Just finished the original A Nightmare on Elm Street and I plan to watch all 7 of those, before moving on to Friday the 13th.
