Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film

I've seen it a dozen times, but just liek those Bravo Channel "100 Scariest moments" shows, I can't get enough of this documentary.

It isn't great, I'm just a sucker for it.

7/10

Mean Streets

Great movie, the soundtrack was amazing.

Disease 09-17-2007 02:24 PM

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, 4.5/10 , This was origanaly banned in Australia. And now I've seen it for the first time I wonder was it banned because it was so shit?

What a fucking dissapointment after waiting so long to see it...

I'm speechless.

Now it's got me trying to remember pt 3 , that wasn't this bad... holy shit, I've got to go and watch something good!

'Tis true. Very heartfelt piece from Scorsese, and powerfully drawing performances by Keitel and De Niro.

Dial M For Murder

Hitchcock classic

The Ninth Gate

What were you wondering about in the ending Disease?

DP McCoy 09-17-2007 04:20 PM

1408-
I was a little disappointed with this,it wasn't nearly as atmospheric or chilling as I hoped it would be.The movie did have it's moments but overall I found it to be fairly average.6/10

The Zombie Diaries-
Low,Low Budget Brit Indie Film, kind of a combination of The Blair Witch and The Night of the Living Dead. The acting was hit and miss but I thought there was a pretty bleak atmosphere throughout,a strong sense of tension and it was quite brutal at times.I loved it 8/10

Stay Alive... Every single character was retarded. At first the blonde girl was the only one that bugged me, but now every single character other than Malcolm pissed me off, especially the blonde girl. The ending I would have liked to seen and applauded, the blonde girl gets stabbed/gutted, whatever the ghost/video game lady was trying ro do, then the entire tower collapses with the douhcebag that was afraid of the fire inside. A shot of the Rosebush, Malcolm sits up, looks at the burning tower, stands up, and walks away.

I mean...
"WE DON'T HAVE THE TIME! JUST GO ON!"-What the fuck? There's no time limit, let that douchebag that was afraid of fire open the God damn door. God damn it.

One fucking monster leaps at them, she throws a hand full of the roses at it, WHAT THE FUCK? Those are the things keeping you from getting F'd in the A by the Tooth Fairy or Mary Shaw or whatever the fuck she was.

Oh, and the picking apart the fucking rose! The douchebag that was afraid of fire gave you the fucking rose so you wouldn't get gutted by the fucking witch/slavemaster/bitch with the pointy stick, and you pick it apart saying "He loves me, He loves me not"

For the douchebag afraid of fire...

Kick the fucking doorknob off! The room is burning, don't run to the other side of the room and curl in the corner because the door's locked, you have a foot, kick the fucking knob off, you even had a fucking hammer when you nailed the ghost bitch's head, use that.

God damn it.

The atmosphere takes some time to build, and the second half is a sucker punch to the stomach. Too bad you didnt like it.

I know the technical part leaves a lot to be desired...but plotwise, this has a powerful premise. If you related to DeNiro in Taxi Driver and Joe Spinell in Maniac then you ll know what I m saying.

Just think...what if Abel Ferrara had a better budget for this one?

Geddy 09-18-2007 01:13 AM

I'll probably give it another watch. But the build up, I just didn't care for.....once it finally got going, I had lost interest. I like the basic premise, which is why I am so disappointed, I thought I would like it. It SEEMS like a film I would like, but something about it just put me off.

I related to that background very much. Probably the reason why I liked the movie a bit more.

Of course the direction and production values are grossly down...but I think Ferrara and his crew did the best they could with what they had.

alkytrio666 09-18-2007 10:51 AM

Zodiac (2007)

All things considered, I thought it was pretty damn good. Good, solid performances, and a chilling ending.

I don't mind low budget (some of my favorites are low budget films), but I tell you what.....the music bugged the hell out of me, and maybe it was supposed to, so you could relate to the character better......;) But it was just too much, it completely took me out the movie. And the acting didn't help. I don't expect great acting when I watch a low budget horror film, or really any horror film.....but with those two things combined, it just made it hard for me to watch. Everytime I was finally getting into the film, it would cut to a scene of the band, or some annoying girl whining. And there I was, bored again. :D
But I will say, I liked the ending. And a couple of the death scenes were very effective.

jenna26 09-18-2007 12:47 PM

Highlander : The Source......why oh WHY don't I listen to people when they tell me I should avoid this crap........ Terrible.

Zombi 09-18-2007 03:18 PM

Tobe Hoper's 1981 "The Funhouse", yeah what a dissapointment. the only good thing about it aside from the crazy fat woman puppet ontop of the funhouse, was the killer that kinda looked like he was a cousin of the little boy larva in Argento's "Phenomena".

I don't know.....I thought Elizabeth Berridge's shower scene was pretty good.

check your brain at the door and have fun with this one.

Kane_Hodder 09-18-2007 08:50 PM

Shoot Em Up sounds like fun. Thank you for the reps guys.

You always get one of those lines with a trailor...''Best action film since Terminator'', ''Best horror movie since Silence of the Lambs'' ect. ect. Saw one a couple weeks back that said..''Best western since Unforgiven''. Well, they finally got one right(or at least that I wholehearted agree with)...

humm.....its hilarious. its gruesome and truly its an old school American horror; but nothing more than that. Perhaps I expected too much from this film......
Anyway, Leslie Vernon was a more interesting character than Victor Crowley.
