Saw it in the theater last night. Interesting movie. Thought Emma Watson did a damn good job. She's more than Hermoine Grainger. Didn't agree with some of the concepts Aronofsky came up with, but hey, it's Hollywood. They do whatever they want. |

HATCHET 2006
A creature is stuck re-living the night of his death over and over again in the swamps of Louisiana. Tormented, he kills anyone foolish enough to wander in his path. So of course, a swamp tour boat gets cast ashore! Pretty standard fare but I liked it. |

Dark Skies - One word review: Predictable. SLIGHT SPOILERS!!! I watched some of the trailer to this movie around its release and thought it was going to be a good one. Turns out it's standard stuff. Basically two ideas or themes put together. First, the family sees strange things in the house. Of course they don't really take it seriously enough at first. I mean, if I saw stuff all over the floor and strange markings, I would stay up for the next few nights to see if it happens again. Second, pretty much every one of the mysteries from the X-Files. I thought I would see Mulder and Scully turn up. But we get a guy, with the usual strong performance by J. K. Simmons, who understands that the fight is basically over. Of course there is the obvious twist as well. The movie leaves no strange or freaky feeling. Maybe there is a shot or two of the creature/monster that will get you. But nothing really unsettling. Which this should be. Even though, to be honest this sort of thing, at least from a physical standpoint doesn't scare me that much. |

The Den (2013) 7/10
A young woman studying the habits of webcam chat users from the apparent safety of her apartment witnesses a brutal murder online and is quickly immersed in a nightmare in which she and her loved ones are targeted for the same grisly fate as the first victim. |
Highway (2012) 6/10
Two brothers embark on a journey in search of a mythical highway in Kentucky, which they believe will lead them to "marijuana nirvana." |
Wolf Creek 2
Less boring than part 1 and more over the top but not necessarily for the better. |

"Tokarev" 6/10
Roderick Usher's newest movie starring Nicholas Cage. Compared to Liam Neeson in "Taken" Cage was much more brutal an less likable, but the story just wasn't as exciting and of all possible outcomes the ending was probably the worst they could've come up with. Also, if you want to see a good Nicholas Cage performance go watch "Joe". But good luck with it, Sean. "Way of the Wicked" 7/10 This story was actually pretty good and it had a (at least I thought) very interesting main character in Robbie and i really thought newcomer Jake Croker added a lot of depth to his character (tho i might be the only one who think so. lol). Too bad the ending was weak as hell. |

Halloween 2 (Remake) -
MAJOR SPOILERS!!! I'm going to start believing more horror reviews. Most said this one is bad. I still wanted to see it just to see it. But there is no point in seeing this movie. It's worse than the first remake. A movie I can't remember. And it's worse than the original Halloween 2. The movie is dark, violent, and extremely brutal just to be brutal. This movie starts by once again breaking what I believe are rules. First, more young Michael Myers back story to humanize him I guess and add to a twist ending. The guy is more crazed serial killer than anything in this movie. And second, which is bad for any movie. For the first 30 minutes we are watching a dream sequence. It's the hospital segment from the original movie. There is nothing in the look of the movie that says this is a dream either. When it turned out to be a dream I was pissed and tempted to stop the movie there. I guess Zombie thought that since Carpenter didn't like Halloween 2, why not be clever and trick the audience or something. It's stupid. After that the movie really starts. And it's not like it gets better either after the dream sequence. I think this movie is like the Friday the 13th remake in that Zombie combined a lot of Halloween movies. There are scenes that seem to be from Halloween 4 or 5 here. I can't remember. A party sequence, the twist with a family member, and a few others. There are also mirrored scenes from Halloween 2. But they are different just to be different. For example, in Halloween 2 (original) there is the hot tub nurse death. Myers dips the nurse multiple times in the tub drowning and burning her face. And we get that 80s gratuitous shot of her perfect boobs. In the remake, there is a nude stripper who has her face brutally slammed into glass. The shot is flipped. It's really vicious. And it's missing that gratuitous shot. These characters aren't the characters of the original movies either. So why even bother? Why not create your own horror movie with a brother / sister conflict or whatever they want to call this mess. They changed the Loomis character into a book / media money grabber. The only actress that does a good job is Danielle Harris. At least she's the only character I cared about. I think Zombie knew it too that's why her death is basically off screen with quick cuts and sound effects. But we do see the sad result. People complain about Jason teleporting in the later Friday the 13th movies, but here Myers literally beats cars across town. And does it just for the story. He's at the same party with Laurie but leaves to go kill Danielle Harris' character for some reason. It's all very bad and pointless. It makes the original Halloween 2 look good. And that movie pales compared to the original Halloween. Anyone who hasn't seen this remake should avoid it at all costs. |

Wolf Creek 2 -
Just wrote a long bit about it that didn't post..fuck that...Anyway liked it alot but though I didn't like the change of tone to it as a sequel to the first Wolf Creek. |
Dark House
http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/...psrfmgba2i.jpg This movie didn't make any sense. Either the filmmakers couldn't decide what movie they wanted to make or they don't understand the basic rules of storytelling. The acting was terrible even from Tobin Bell who just seemed bored and the hook of the movie had barely anything to do with it. |

It’s a great horror slasher film: the body count is ample, the deaths are gruesome, the nudity is decent, & the girls are cute. The story is horrendous – but excusable – in lieu of the movie’s strengths. As a re-make of the 1980 classic, it stinks. It's really a sequel - not a re-make - as it picks up at the end of the first movie with Jason's mother getting killed and proceeds from there. The story is baffling even for a slasher flick (the ending especially) but it's more of a let-down in the FT13 franchise. |
"Locker 13" 5/10
Meh. This anthology was like watching short half-assed episodes of The Twilight Zone. Best part was the main story which took place in the last 10 minutes of the movie. An ok watch if you got nothing better to do. |

Emma Stone & the climactic sequence. Forget everything else. * * |
Tokarev
Average revenge flick starring Nicholas Cage. Has it moments but not that great. My Bloody Valentine Average slasher that could've been better. Friday The 13th 2009 Second viewing. Maybe it was because it was late or watched too many slashers lately, but I got bored really fast. |

There's something charming about vampiric comedies (remember Polanksi's fantastic 60s film?). Unfortunately, none of that exist in these films. The female lead provides plenty of eye candy, and some of the gags work. If you love girly films, take a chance. Otherwise avoid. * ½ |

Final destination 5 (2011) Enjoyed it though the series feels a little tired by this point as it's more of the same. But it was better than the previous two I thought. The Bridge scenes were very good and I liked the kills.

A semi-decent remake of a great 70s classic. Recommended. * * * http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...jL._SY300_.jpg If you are a WWE & Scooby Doo nerd, pick this up and have a blast. * * * http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SL._SY300_.jpg Pacific Rim-esque environment set within the War of the Worlds premise. Interesting, much better than the Tom Cruise remake. * * * http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...bL._SY300_.jpg Shut it off after about 15 minutes. Too tired to be interested. Maybe I'll give it a second chance sometime. |
Open Grave is pretty good.
