Night of the Demon
enjoyed it much :D |
My 31 Nights Of Halloween celebration continues with:
"House Of Frankenstein" and "Son Of Dracula" |
The Uninvited.
This is one of those films whose chills remain with you long after it is over. "They call them the haunted shores, these stretches of Devonshire and Cornwall and Ireland which rear up against the westward ocean. Mists gather here, and sea fog, and eerie stories. That’s not because there are more ghosts here than in other places, mind you. It’s just that people who live hereabouts are strangely aware of them." ...eerie narration by Ray Milland. |
My 31 Nights Of Halloween celebration continues with:
"The Gorgon" (1964) -Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing Plot: IMDB In the early 20th century, a Gorgon takes human form and terrorizes a small European village by turning its citizens to stone. Phantom's Review: Fun little Hammer film. Not one of their classics, but still entertaining and any film with Lee and Cushing is worth a viewing. |
oh what a lovely war
|
At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1964)
http://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/mov/video/i.../49/212649.jpg As the first horror film from Brazil and made in 60's...I think it's pretty disturbing & violent in some part. But the surprising part is I have a friend who used to look like exactly as Coffin Joe!:D Anyway, loved the ending...the ghostly effects were great. >>: B+ |
The Devil's Bride.
Great Hammer entry about a Satanic cult- featuring Simon Gray as the leader of the cult and Chistopher Lee as the hero! |
My 31 Nights Of Halloween celebration continues with:
"The Haunting" (1963) -Julie Harris Plot: IMDB Dr. Markway, doing research to prove the existence of ghosts, investigates Hill House, a large, eerie mansion with a lurid history of violent death and insanity. With him are the skeptical young Luke, who stands to inherit the house, the mysterious and clairvoyant Theodora and the insecure Eleanor, whose psychic abilities make her feel somehow attuned to whatever spirits inhabit the old mansion Phantom's Review: Quite possibly, the greatest ghost story ever filmed. Well acted, great story and a very subtle way of creeping up on you. A classic. |
Horror Hotel.
Re-watched this after a long time. Forgot what a fantastic little film this was. I would recommend this as a must-watch in Halloween season. |
My 31 Nights Of Halloween celebration continues with:
"I Love A Mystery" (1945) "The Beast With Five Fingers" (1946) "The Giant Gila Monster" (1959) |
My 31 Nights Of Halloween continues with:
"Curse Of The Undead" (1959) -Micheal Pate, Eric Fleming Plot: Turner Classics Movie Western with a twist: mysterious gunslinger-for-hire Drake Robey is really a vampire, and it's up to Preacher Dan to save the town and girlfriend Dolores Carter. Phantom's Review: Okay, first let me say I love westerns, along with horror it's my favorite genre and this little seen movie is a favorite of mine. Definitely, a "B" movie, but very well acted by a cast of western veterans and with some nice creepy atmosphere and great spooky music. I truly enjoy this film and it's a Halloween staple at my house. |
Been trying to stick with classics for my Hallowe'en watching this year. So far, it's been:
The Phantom of the Opera (1925), The Raven (1935), The Wolf Man (1941), Psycho (1960), all of which were on the big screen! and Vampyr (1932), The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966), Spider Baby (1968), Repulsion (1965), Dracula's Daughter (1936), and I'm getting ready to watch This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse right now! |
Wow- great lineup, Fort!
|
My 31 Nights Of Halloween celebration continues with:
"The Brain That Wouldn't Die" (1961) My favorite "bad" movie. Ridiculous on every level. and "House On Haunted Hill" My favorite Vincent Price film. One of the best |
Quote:
It's definitely been the best lineup in recent years. Not sure what to do next...I'm thinking Mark of the Vampire and a Tourneur/Lewton film. |
Frankenstein must be Destroyed (1969)
http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/5347/fmbd69.jpg I think it's the most meanest & terrifying portrayal of Baron Frankenstein ever. Excellent. >>: A- |
One of the greatest Hammer films ever!
|
The Tomb of Ligeia and An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe, I love Vincent Price. :)
|
Tomb of Liegeia is a really overlooked Corman film, I think. It may be my favorite Corman/Poe film. It's much more dour and foboding than either Pit & the Pendulum or Masque of the Red Death. Price's portrayal is so stark and hopeless.
|
The Whip and the Body
Another Great Gothic Bava. |
|
The Leopard Man (1943)
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/6707/leopardman.jpg Another 'Dynamite' masterpiece from Lewton-Tourneur collaboration. >>: A- |
Great British sci-fi triple bill on TCM this evening.
X The Unknown Quatermass & The Pit These Are the Damned Two of them great examples of 50s sci-fi. X The Unknown is kind of the British answer to The Blob and These Are the Damned is another of those creepy kid films the British do so well. Quatermass of course is a classic. Great fun, all of them. |
After discussing the music I had to watch Ghost and Mr. Chicken. :)

This part cracks me up: |
My 31 Nights Of Halloween Celebration Continues with:
"Nosferatu" (1922) Every time I see this movie, I am amazed by it. The film still has not lost any of it's thrills. A true horror classic |
|
The Thing from Another World
|
My 31 Nights Of Halloween Continues with:
"Dracula's Daughter" (1936) -Gloria Holden First sequel to Universal's classic "Dracula"(1931) Creepy, atmospheric, and filmed on those great Universal backlots. A great little film. And "The Hound Of The Baskervilles" (1939) -Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce The first and the best of the Rathbone-Bruce series of Sherlock Holmes films. Wonderfully acted, good creepy atmosphere and a superior story. One of the best movie mysteries. |
"The Phantom Creeps" (1939)
|
The Mummy's Shroud(1967)
|
Five Million Years To Earth(1967)(aka "Quatermass And The Pit") on Turner Classic Movies. I like this film better than "Quatermass 2" and also prefer Andrew Keir's portrayal Of Professor Quatermass to that of Brian Donlevy's in the 1957 "Quatermass 2" film.

My 31 Nights Of Halloween continue with"
"Return Of The Vampire" (1944) -Bela Lugosi Plot: IMDB When an errant bomb unearths the coffin of a vampire during the London Blitz, a gravedigger unknowingly reanimates the monster by removing the stake from his heart Phantom's Review: Bela Lugosi's unofficial "Dracula" movie. He plays the count in everything but name and does a damn fine job at it, the rest of the movie is a fun creepy little movie, not really a classic but very entertaining. |
Son of Frankenstein (1939). This so-called third installment of the Frankenstein trilogy adds its own flair to the series, utilizing to full effect its sublime cast. The stark and shadowy atmosphere, the nefarious intrigues, and the rotten Ygor playing that mysterious flute-like instrument all add to its mysterious essence. Of particular importance were the elaborate set designs, with the camera utilizing interesting camera angles which left visual highlights for the viewer to feast on. The acting was spot on, with the monstrous pair Lugosi and Karloff doing the Devil's work, Rathbone hamming it up to delightful effect, and Atwill and his hilariously animated arm attempting to hold the discommoding situation together. The result is a finality to the trilogy that can hold its head up high in light of its incredible predecessors. Merci beaucoup.

I love Lugosi as Ygor. One of his greatest roles!
|
|
It isn't nice to hate.
Spider Baby |
One of my favorite films ever! Seriously!

really enjoyed it. After doing a bit of research I read that Lon Chaney went on the wagon filming this. It shows...he gave a great performance. The girls were great as well. |
Not to mention Sid Haig!
