Where did you see it then?

I watched the Hills have Eyes 2 last night.

It wasn't bad, but the characters were a bit dumb. And I would have edited the begining differently, after the child birth I would have cut to the army simulation, then after they left for the hills cut to the hills and shown the scientists bit and then back to the troops in the truck.

I just felt it would have given the soldiers more character build up, because you would have sensed they were around from the begining. It was a bit disapointing.

I just watched Sunshine, The first 40 mins realy draged on, and the death while fixing the outside of a spacecraft has been done to death....

But it picked up in the second half of the movie the story line got nice and twisted, but what the fuck was the Sydney opera house doing in the last shot?

Deeply visceral violence.
If you're pissed off at ANYTHING, this is a great cathartic movie to watch.
At first the slow motion CGI scenes of carnage has an incredible 'oomph' and 'oh yes!' appeal, but slowly wears on the nerves as it never seems to cease.
The sex scene was very improbable seeing as King and Queen had been married awhile and a 6 year old kid to boot.
I was expecting Circe to be a TAD more chilling and imtimidating.

I was, I guess, just expecting 'more' from this film.

Immortal Beloved with Gary Oldman. It bored me, and I usually love musical movies like this. Bummer.

Blades of Glory

This was pretty much exactly what I was anticipating. A fairly run-of-the-mill sports comedy with a few very funny moments. Will Ferrell is funny, but Jon Heder is not. The plot is predictable and the story rather cliche. It was okay but I wouldnt recommend it to people.

Peeping Tom (1960)

So chilling, like nothing before filmed.
It's kind of cool to look at the two impactful horror films of 1960 and their strategies. Hitchcock filmed Psycho in black and white, hence enhancing it's surrealness (and hiding the fact that his blood was chocolate syrup). On the other hand, Powell chose technicolor for his shocker, and it only adds to the eerieness of Peeping Tom.

Both very effective, both masterpieces (though I prefer Psycho).

The Tenth Kingdom- 9/10

It's cheesy and stuff, but i've grown up with this movie, so I give it that high score. It's your typical fantasy, and it mixes all sorts of fairy tales together, but it has a great storyline..... The ending is kinda sad though.

I know...how fucking good was he in this?!?
Between this, and his role in Eragon, I reckon' he should play more scary bastard roles, it's like he's made for them.

The best Argento movie i've seen so far nevertheless.

So you don't think he makes great movies?

I haven't seen much of his stuff and was going to buy a box set to check it out, what do you think?

Angra 08-31-2007 09:11 AM

"Masters of horror - The Screwfly Solution" 7/10

I thought this one had a great and very frightening story.

I liked how the director, Joe Dante (Never heard about him), left a lot up to the imaginations of the viewers instead of throwing a lot of graphic violence in our faces. I felt those scenes had a much stronger impact that way.

Very cruel stuff.

Didn't quite get the ending though...

I'm definitely the wrong person to ask that question, Dis.

I've always thought Argento was a crappy director.

Despare 08-31-2007 09:16 AM

I hope you were joking about the Joe Dante thing... he directed Gremlins and The Howling among others.

Oh right. lol

I checked him out on IMDB before i wrote that and for some weird reason i stopped scrolling down his movie list when i came to nr. 14 - "Eerie indiana".

I don't know why? :p

I don't know what's in the set, but his masterpieces are Profondo rosso (AKA Deep Red), Suspiria, Tenebre, Opera, and The Bird With the Crystal Plumage. Usually, though, in my opinion, anything Argento touches turns to pure giallo gold. I'd say go for it.

I personally couldn't stand it.

It felt like The Devils Rejects with a Micheal storyline thrown in.

Neither, though I've been meaning to check them out- especially Do You Like Hitchcock?

I'll make them a priority.

Death Proof (the extended cut, not Grindhouse) and The TV Set.

Phalanx 08-31-2007 07:07 PM

Bourne Ultimatum.
Pretty good...I can't really say that any of these films is that much better or worse than the others, as I quite like them all.
This one, only issues were the fight scenes seemed a bit frenzied with the camerawork...other than that, all good.
Nice continuation.
I wouldn't be surprised if the follow up books by that "other" author were taken up for film...they did leave this one rather open ended, and obviously its some kinda cash cow.
I liked it.
