Have you watched Robot Monster yet? I highly recommend it for your viewing enjoyment. My candidate for the most unbelievable bizarre and off the wall cheesily bad movie ever.
|
Them! (1954). Lauded as the mother of the "atomic age gone bad" flicks, this one deserves its accolades. What could have been a corny affair, instead this classic takes this movie seriously and it shows. Not that it does not have a sense of humor, with occasional dialog digs that come out of left field. The cast was as solid as they get for horror, with James Whitmore leading the fray. The story was solid and engaging, with its momentum ever building. The direction and camera work were perfect for effect. And the ending, while a tad abrupt, left the viewer with the appropriately discombobulated sense of dissonance of the future. Ashe.

They have a lot of good Vincent Price oldies running on IRPLEX I think it is lately.

Godzilla vs The Sea Monster (1966)
Fun entry in the Godzilla franchise which has The Big G fighting a giant lobster. Intresting trivia about this film, it was originally supposed to be the third Toho "King Kong" movie, but at the last minute RKO raised their price for Kong's rights so it was switched to a Godzilla film instead. |

"Bedlam" (1946)
-Boris Karloff Plot: IMDB Nell Bowen, the spirited protege of rich Lord Mortimer, becomes interested in the conditions of notorious St. Mary's of Bethlehem Asylum (Bedlam). Encouraged by the Quaker Hannay, she tries to bring support to reforming Bedlam, but the cruel Master Sims who runs it has her committed there. The inmates, however, have the last say. Phantom's Review: While not exactly a "horror" movie, this is still a great thriller. Well acted with great atmosphere. Very entertaining. |
Some great images in that film- like the wall of arms... and Karloff is chilling!
|
Have you ever noticed that Karloff really never gave a "bad" performance. No matter what the movie was, he was good. Truly an amazing actor.

"Godzilla vs Mothra (A.K.A. "Godzilla vs The Thing" 1964)
One of the best of the original Big G series. Plenty of monster action and a decent story. |
one body too many
|
"War Of The Gargantuas"
Plot: Two giant monsters, one green, one brown, try and kick each others ass and flatten Japan in the process. Phantom's Review: My favorite Non-Godzilla Japanese monster movie. Lot's of action, ridiculous plot and of course..the haunting love theme "The Words Get Stuck In My Throat" A classic of it's kind. |

Door to Door Maniac
Not really a horror film- more of a suspense thriller- starring Johnny Cash and Vic Taybek (from TV's Alice) as a pair of thugs trying to extort money from a banker by holding his wife hostage. Cash is great as a vicious gunman. Cast also includes Ronnie Howard in a very early role! |

The Gorgon (1964)
http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/5108/thegorgon.jpg One of the finest hammer horror directed by Fisher. Loved it. >>: A- |
"The Body Snatcher" (1945)
-Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi Plot: IMDB A ruthless doctor and his young prize student find themselves continually harassed by their murderous supplier of illegal cadavers. Phantom's Review: Karloff! Lugosi! Val Lewton! Robert Wise! All these together make for a classic thriller. Karloff is perfect as the evil Mr. Gray and while Lugosi's part is small, it's still great to see these two icons together. A highly entertaining movie. |
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). Born of the era of paranoia, the roots of McCarthyism are readily evident. While the message is thinly veiled, this classic is still a worthy sci-fi Leviathan. With solid acting, direction, and exceptional camera work, this movie is quite the pleasant way to spend 80 minutes of one's life. More so, the score was timely and becoming of such a classic. Minor plot holes aside, this one deserves its grand repose. Late.

Having seen where Kevin McCarthy passed away at age 96, I got out the original Invasion Of The Body Snatchers last night and watched it.
Great classic movie. They could have done without the sequel. |
I watched The Wolf Man tonight. I still like that movie. The remake is good too, but just something about the original I really enjoy.
|

Robot Monster (1953)
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/2...otmonster1.jpg ***SPOILER*** A super cheesy movie for sure but again I don't like to call it a 'bad' movie (in compare to plenty of crap movies made so far in 'modern' era). It was like a home made family film where the crew & the cast had a big fun time while making it. And yes...there were some hilarious moments...specially when the Earth Ro-man fight against the young couple, mainly with Roy and later it seems Ro-man was somewhat sexually attracted to that young lady...Alice!:D The shocking part was the murder scene of the little girl by Ro-man...I didn't expect that at all. Nonetheless I think they somewhat justified the funny costume design of Ro-man as in the end it was reveal that the whole thing was nothing but a super imagination/dream of a kid who actually playing with a helmet like that of roman and had enough interest about the cave which might be a possible resting place for a Gorilla.:) Thanks a lot to NE for the rec. >>: B |
It's my favorite bad movie of all time!

20 Million Miles To Earth (1957)
Plot: IMDB When the first manned flight to Venus returns to Earth, the rocket crash-lands in the Mediterranean near a small Italian fishing village. The locals manage to save one of the astronauts Colonel Calder, the mission commander. A young boy also recovers what turns out to be a specimen of an alien creature. Growing at a fantastic rate, it manages to escape and eventually threatens the city of Rome forcing the military to take drastic action. Phantom's Review: One of the best of the 1950's monster movies. Great FX. action and story. A classic. |
double feature last night

I just watched 20 Million Miles To Earth the other day.
I agree with PhantonStranger. It was one of the best. When I saw that Kevin McCarthy, star of Invasion Of The Body Snatchers passed away at 96, I just couldn't resist watching that movie again. Another great classic, Two great classic movies from the 50's. I really enjoyed watching every minute of these films. |

"Night Of The Living Dead"
My favorite zombie film hosted by my favorite horror hostess (and still super hot) "Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark" A fun way to spend an evening. |
"Horror Of Dracula" (1958)
-Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee In my humble opinion, This is the greatest Dracula movie ever made. Terrific thrills, sets, costumes, acting, direction and atmosphere. A true classic. |
I watched the entire Hammer Dracula marathon on TCM. Horror of Dracula, Dracula, Prince of Darkness, The Brides of Dracula aand Dracula Has Risen From the Grave.
Great memories. Horror of Dracula has one of the greatest climaxes in horror history. |
|
"KIng Kong vs Godzilla"
Not my favorite film in the series, but it has some decent action, but it has possibly the worst "Kong" costume ever. |
